I Mounted an Action Camera on my RC Car!
I mounted an action camera on my Yokomo RS 1.0 and ran some practice laps with it until the camera came flying off! I need to try this again. The camera made the car very top heavy, but I was able to get some decent footage chasing my buddy around. I am running a Yokomo RS 1.0 Rookie Speed Touring Car. #rccaraction #rc #rccar #yokomors1.0 #yokomo #touringcar #rccarracing

Are the DJI cameras worth it? Awesome video!
I've enjoyed using it and it takes very good video. I usually shoot in 1080 which keeps the files sizes reasonable. It's not the best in low light like most action cameras. Thanks for the comment.
That was a lot of fun :-) Thanks for posting it!
I was thinking about grabbing a latrax vehicle I might not now. Anyhow thanks for your awesome content. Happy New Year.
@@LukesVintageRC Happy New Year! Seems like a lot of the small scale cars have this issue. I'll post a solution if I can find one.
Great Video. I like that deerc trophy truck. I agree on traxxas. Too high a brand to sell cheap crappy parts.
Thanks man! Yeah..that DeeRC is a cheapie but it keeps on trucking. Haven't sorted out the Teton...probably going to have to buy a new servo.
@arkyrc make sure its metal gear.
@gamedogrc Definitely!
Is that a traxxas latrax prerumner?!
The SCT's are all 1:10 scale. Teko's mostly... 410.3 and the SL.
Looks like you have been having fun! A full bench of things to work on means a lot of stuff is getting run! Wishing you all the best in the new year!
Thanks Addam! Merry Christmas as well! Have a great new year as well. :)
Bad sign with breaking parts. Cars have gotten better (at least on the basher dirt end) so there’s no excuse for weak designs. Pass on this one…
Nice Car!
I just had this happen to me yesterday. At least I believe this is what's going on as I haven't popped the diff open to take a look. I noticed loss of power to rear, but when manually holding rear center drive shaft and cup up against the diff housing it was engaged and would work properly. But soon as I'd let go it would go back to free spinning.
I'd say there's a good chance that this is your issue. I ended up shimming the pinion after this happened again and this seemed to help. You might try this and see if it helps. Good thing is that these are pretty cheap and easy to change out.
@arkyrc 100% thats what it was. Totally just ground to dust. I ended up buying a couple extra pinions incase this happens again. Does the shim go on out side between diff case and drive cup? Or on inside between pinion and bearing?
@@SteveNavarro-qc3vl I placed the shim between the diff pinion and the bearing. This created more contact between it the ring gear. It even sounds different after installing the shim. I used a traxxas teflon spacer and it seems to be the correct thickness that I needed. You just don't want it too tight. The link below is to another video I did after I installed the shim. It might help.... Unfortunately I didn't record the installation of the shim when I repaired it trackside! Good luck and Merry Christmas! ruclips.net/video/GTyNyEY1k10/видео.html
@arkyrc Merry Christmas to you too brother! And thank you for the help🙏
Is that on 3s?
No..just 2S. It would be crazy on 3S. On 2s I can't keep it on all 4 on our carpet track. :)
Can this idea work ebike battery
I would think that an E-Bike battery would be built similar but would have way more than two cells and operate at a much higher voltage. If it were me I'd not mess with one of those just to be safe.
That would be great 😮👍
I like your setup and I think like you don't spend lots of money on your car if you don't need to 😎👍
I do "race" mine from time to time just for the fun of it. I have seen its design limitations. Great cars, but they are what they are. I just enjoy running it and have already spent more on it that I should have.. 🤣 Have a Merry Christmas!
@arkyrc I'm going to spend some money on mine just for my personal enjoyment and find a good balance of the power and handling of the car you don't have to be the fastest guy just be consistent and you will win races 😎👍
I’ve been rebuilding my old Tamiya Grasshopper, upgrading it step by step. Originally, it had the stock 380 motor, smooth tires with no real grip, and basic bushings. Here’s what I’ve done so far to bring it to life: Swapped out the old motor for a Tamiya GT-Tuned 540 Motor for more speed and power. Upgraded to a Hobbywing 1060 ESC to handle the new motor. Added a Voltz 7.2V 3000mAh NiMH battery for longer runtimes. Replaced the stock bushings with 1150 metal ball bearings for smoother performance. Fitted a Power HD LW20 Waterproof Metal Gear Servo for precise steering. Next up, I’m thinking of a lime green paint job with some custom stickers, and my favorite number ‘11’ on the front. I might also swap out the rear tires for something grippier like the Tamiya Super Grippers but keep the front ones as they are for now. This build is meaningful to me, I promised myself I’d have one of these when I was a kid but never got one. I’m 45 now, building it properly while my 3-year-old son has the ready-made Hornet. I’m re-kitting this Grasshopper in front of him, and it’s as much about learning as it is about sharing the experience with him. Future Tweaks to Make It Even Faster (Without Destroying It): 1. Pinion Gear Upgrade: Fit a slightly larger pinion gear for a little more top speed, but don’t go too big or you’ll stress the gearbox. 2. Oil-Filled Shocks: Swap to Tamiya CVA Oil Shocks for better stability and handling at higher speeds. 3. Modern Grippier Tires: Fit Pro-Line Dirt Hawg 2.2 rear tires on 2.2 wheels for more traction and control. 4. Higher Capacity Battery: A 5000mAh NiMH battery for even longer runtimes. 5. Brushless System (Optional): Later on, you could upgrade to a 13.5T brushless motor and ESC combo for insane speed, but you’d need to reinforce the gearbox first. It’s a build I’m proud of, and I’m learning as I go. This Grasshopper is going to fly, and there’s still room to tweak it further down the line! I know it all sounds pointless but I'm challenging myself in pimping this thing up turn it into the Grasshopper I think it's meant to be. Thanks for the video mate You have a new subscriber
@@Strider1122 I love it! The point of RC is to have fun and it sounds like you definitely are having fun.. I was fortunate enough to have a Grasshopper as a kid so for me the Grasshopper brings back that RC nostalgia from the 80's. The Grasshopper is so fun to play around with. It's one of my favorite RC's. When I got back into RC a few years ago I was surprised to see that you could still buy them. Thanks for subscribing...I greatly appreciate it. Have a Merry Christmas!!
Seems simple enough. I was lazy and just bought some Ovanic batteries to replace them! LOL! I'll have to see if I have some spare balance leads and try this.
I bought another battery for it before I did this. Now I have three! That's ok...I can use them in other cars. :)
Do traxxas next please 😊
@@crowbot4023 I don't have and won't buy any Traxxas batteries. 🤣 They would probably sue me anyway!! 🤣
I would spend hours looking at these. Especially at Christmas. 👍🏻❤
Think I hear that slipper clutch going to WORK
Looks great!
Thanks! She really drives well too!
I still have my PRO-X Team Version from like ’94. Your rc reminds me of that one. Watching your video makes me want to get that old rc working again. It’s still in great shape.
@@SirSavesALot1977 Appreciate your comment. The Pro-X is a great RC worthy of restoration. Hopefully parts are out there. Good luck with it! :)
Once we get the gearing sorted out, that Yokomo will be a competitive car. I heard yesterday that we need to be more around 93/46 in 64p.
@@abullock1995 I hope so...really enjoy running it.
Again, nice video.
Great video. Only the jazz piano-music in the background….
Thanks so much!
We've got 2 sets of tekno rear axle conversions at the shop. It lets ya run the same rear axles as the tekno 410SL sct uses. Ya aint gonna hurt them in a Traxxas. 😎 We also have a good selection of 2wd Traxxas aftermarket arms and parts too.
@@Animal_6976 Really? I'll have to check those out.
@arkyrc yeah after that swap ya won't ever have to replace another rear axle in it again. They fit the slash and stampede also.
Happy thanksgiving buddy
@@IowaBudgetRCBashers Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving and nice score with the grom and glad you are having fun with the on-road car. Nice deer as well, venison on the menu for today as well!
@@AddamsPlayground Thanks Adam. No venison on the menu today, but we eat alot of it. 😁
I just got one of these today vintage one needs a battery and battery cover and a remote

Great Description And Great Video because i damn sure did😂😂 now mines is stripped down till i fix the transmission on ol rusty.
You broke the transmission? Wow! No problem ..they are easy and cheap to repair. Have fun with it!
Where did you install the bearings
I replaced all the white bushings with bearings. The gearbox and the front wheels. Makes a big difference.
@arkyrc have you got a vid on this me and my brother are trying to get into this hobby !! Ps thanks for replying
@@berwynrogers1450 No video on installing the bearings. When you build the kit it will be pretty obvious where the bearings go. Fast Eddy Bearing sells them all together. The Grasshopper was my first hobby grade RC car back in the 80's. They are perfect for learning on. Welcome to the hobby!
Looks like a nice chassis and I have heard good things from their RS line of cars. Same basic geometry as the high end ones but with less expensive parts so it should drive really well. Have fun with it at the track!
@@AddamsPlayground Thanks Adam. I drove it earlier this week at the track. I did break a front hub, but other than that I was impressed with it. I just need to learn how to drive it!! Way different than racing on dirt.
New spur?
Still on the original stock one! It's showing some wear but has a lot of life left in it.
Did the stock pinion fit?
@@TheMxrider25 yep...just installed a 19T for more speed.
That’s pretty awesome stadium truck running oval wish I could take my Team associated T3 there hopefully they make body mount kits for Dwarf car body’s so we can run the big wings on them would look sick on a 2wd stadium truck. 👍🔥
@@GearWorksRc I was surprised how well it ran after making a few adjustments. I still think there is room for improvement with it but unfortunately the rear mounted motor limits it. It took a beating out there for sure. Both king pins were badly bent...I didn't realize this until I got home. Looking forward to running it again. I'm also going to try out a Yokomo Touring Car on the track...should be fun!!
I’ve been racing short course trucks here for a couple months. I love the hobby so far! Keep the videos coming!
@@logansearing Short course is so much fun and much cheaper than almost any other class. Thanks for watching!
For sure!
Not a bad deal for $15. It is nice to have a pile of hardware on hand as something always seems to get damaged or lost to the hardware gremlins at some point!
@@AddamsPlayground I have used several screws since making the video. No issues so far. Quality seems very good.

What mods that thing got
@@beta5033 RPM gearbox which allows for rear toe in. This really helps the car hook up. A hobbywing sensorless esc/motor combo (4000kv), and adjustable camber links....that's it. Gearbox internals are all stock. Oh, I recently swapped out the front bulkhead to an aluminum one I had laying around just for a little added weight in the front. This is probably not needed though but it does look cool. Thinking about trying out aluminum front hubs. Im always bending the kingpins...thinking the aluminum ones may help prevent that. I'm not a huge fan of aluminum parts though..these cars need to flex some to prevent breakage. This is probably all I'll do with upgrades. It's a Rustler and it doesn't make sense to overspend on it. It is such a fun RC though...one of my favorites!!
I LOVED my modified Grasshopper. My first RC.
They are so underrated!
Need to replace the shocks. It’s too bouncy.
Yeah..that's an issue with these cars. It's still fun! :)
