Chris from Rekkid Talk
США
Добавлен 17 апр 2021
Another middle-aged nerd decides to join the vinyl community to talk about music he likes. My sweet spot is 1980s and 1990s "alternative" but I won't limit myself to that genre.
My plan is to do about one or two videos a week. Generally I post them at 7:45 AM Central Time (U.S.) on Tuesdays and possibly other days. The Tuesday videos will be about my vinyl finds in antique malls & thrift stores (about twice a month), Five Rekkids, Five Minutes on the 50 states of the U.S.A. (once a month), and Five Rekkids, Five Minutes on years starting in 1964 and every fifth year after (once a month).
Other videos based on my whim and avaialable time will include reviews of albums, vinyl community contests & threads, and whatever else I have to talk about.

Chris from Rekkid Talk shows 3 three-word band names with three-word album titles that feature three-word song titles for Ben Rankins since he's been making his video for about 3 years.
Video set to debut at midnight Eucla time (i.e. Australian Western Central Standard Time).
I might have said one of the band titles incorrectly.

Prince's 'Christopher Tracy's Parade' from Parade. It's the soundtrack for the movie Under the Cherry Moon & it's his character's name.
@@ThatKa5p3r Didn't think about Prince since my name isn't Nikki
@RekkidTalk 🤣🤣
A tread made for you Chris, under 3 minutes, you are the aster of that
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 test yourself
Great job; thanks for the examples. I look forward to more Venn diagrams. Just a few comments and bones to pick: Mini-LP doesn't have much use as a category unless (like your _People of the Sun_ example) it's on 10″ vinyl (and not 78-rpm), but if you have to use the term, _Introducing: The Style Council_ would be close. Still, with only 6 unique titles, it could be shoe-horned into the EP circle too. Some of your examples are more clear-cut than you make out. The Stereolab example is just a short album. To compare, all of the U.S. Beatles' albums before _Sgt. Pepper's_ were between 25 and 30 minutes. Pre-Album Era 10″s like the Yma Sumac are just short albums too. _Boy Genius_ is an EP. _People of the Sun,_ with 6 unique titles, is an EP. "Peek-A-Boo" is a just a maxi-single; having two b-sides is perfectly normal for the format. Look at 1980s Cocteau Twins for releases that straddle the line between maxi-single and EP.
@@AnneArtik The next Venn Diagram episode will be in a few weeks and should be clearer. Thanks for sorting out my nonsense.
Oh man, I used to save ALL of my CD long boxes but after a couple of moves they got pretty rough so got thrown out.
@@ThatKa5p3r i moved way too often in the 90s to be saving longboxes
Thanks for jumping on board Chris 👍You aren't the first to claim that the bands I show aren't real 😂That is a hell of a cover on the Dog Face Hermans. I was almost enjoying that until Men At Work 😲Cheers mate...Ben
Whoops, I could have shown Nine Inch Nails "Pretty Hate Machine".
LOL business as usual :)
🤣
Men At Work!! Oh no!

Congratulations on weening off of Phish. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I liked the early goofy stuff, but they got less goofy.
This is easy task in english...but try to do it with ot propositions At, of, for... We don't have those...

Another excellent response 👍👍👍
Thanks.
Chris, great response to the tag, just did my the other day, nice to see Gorgol Bordello, cheers
Hi Chris!!! Great response to the real "Tough vinyl tag" and cool prompts too..... back in the day i bought Maiden's "Fear of the Dark" brand new and it came in a longbox and yes as you guess i got rid of the extra packaging, why not?? it was kind of useless and never about it as a collector's item. cheers and be well
Just think of all those toys we played with as a kid rather than preserving in mint condition to fund our retirement!
Hi Chris - good to see another “difficult” tag entry - cool flexi ! Cassette singles were really popular in the U.K. for some reason - nice White Stripes singles 👍🫡🇬🇧
I never bought cassingles but still managed to end up with some.
Awesome response Chris! It was difficult just as advertised! ✌️
I need a bigger challenge - dare me to show ragtime on minidisc or punk covers of Benny Goodman.
Great choices there and awesome tag response. Good job sir!
Thanks, those nerdy 7" box sets come in handy for videos like this.
That was one of the best Phish shows ever IMO. You didn't even break a sweat doing this tag.
I liked the one I saw at Red Rocks in '96 better -- the night it started raining towards the end of the show and they broke into "Purple Rain". They really good "Makisupa Policeman" that night and "Tweezer" and the "Harry Hood" crowd chant. I hope my punk friends don't read this, as I lose credibility 🙂.
Hey Chris! Stadium teardowns - you forgot your hometown for Wrigley Field and Soldier Field. "Everybody was smoking pot." Cheers!
The Ludacris set I saw at Bonnaroo many years ago probably had the highest THC levels in the air of any concert I've ever been to, and I've been to many jam band shows.
Young Chris here again! Nice picks, but why "I didn't but this for listening". Now Alfred E. Neumann is very sad.. Now one hour rest a then to see Terveet kädet. (Lucky that I can mention they in comments, because I can't show the records...).
Do you listen to your floppy disks?
@RekkidTalk Yeah, those talking to me all time...
You made this difficult tag look easy! Cool white stripes singles!
An excuse to show the Third Man Records merch.
In Chris There Is No East Or West There you go. Your name (almost, kinda) in a song title. I do pretty well on this until about halfway through. I never have doubles of anything. When I do I get rid of one. My concert album is a probability and not a 100% sure thing. Rahsaan Roland Kirk at the Keystone Korner in 1973. He played 4 nights and they were recording but I don't know if the night I was there ended up on the album.
Getting rid of doubles is smart. I hope to be that smart some day.
Peer pressure! That's why I do all of my tag videos. This is terrific. Very cool White strips 7" box! Re: 88 Lines About 44 Women. Now that is an awesome track, but I think this might be the first time I have ever seen anyone talk about it. I bought that album way way back when. I hadn't really considered that it would be easier for a female to pick a song with their name, but you are clearly right about that. 🙂Ludacris - Good One! Thanks for giving in to peer pressure.
ruclips.net/video/UjtiAkakogM/видео.html
Of course, many of those songs about women are creepy.
No deals to be had anywhere. 30 dollars for Christopher Cross. Good Lord. Stopped buying back in 2017 or 2018. I find some from time to time but very seldom. Vinyl collecting is officially dead.
There are still some good finds, but I show the crap as well.
South Pacific cover looks like a Dad trying to kiss his daughter.
😬
Interesting. I don't have any records from 1960 in my collection. I have Sketches of Spain on CD.
I didn't have enough from 1955 to go back that far.
5 records in 5 minutes and it takes me a half hour to do it. Love the Wanda Jackson single and of course Miles is king to me.
You need to get into a hardcore mode rather than a prog mode when making videos, in terms of timing.
I was lucky enough to see Wanda Jackson live on a tiny venue and it was almost a “spiritual” experience for a young buck like me. Hope all is well, cheers
Whoa!🎸
Yaya - that Atlantic lane is cool cool cool - 45 are time capsules everyone of them … 1960 - sorta a space age motif / style is what come to mind
I like it more than later Atlantic labels.
I was born in 1960 but it’s not represented very well in my collection. It was a good year for jazz and country.
Yeah, not as many rockers as the previous few years.
Hi Chris!!! sorry, but no records/releases from 1960 in my collection, that's long time ago.....cheers and be well
@@cristianosorio2517 no metal from 1960
everything was great and then you disappointed us with that Columbia label. lol I was born in 1960 but I don't remember hearing these songs on the radio. Ornette 45 is awesome!
@@RandallWeaver I know, so weak to not have the first pressing Miles.
That Sigur Ros record that neither of us can pronounce is epic. One of my favourites. Blimey. Mongolia! That's impressive! Some great music from Columbia. Cracking Zamrock, Amanaz. Great mix, Chris. Thanks
Everyone has a Zamrock album these days!
I'm old enough to have 1960 memories and musical ones to boot. New Orleans by U.S. Bonds, Georgia On My Mind, Sweet Nothin's, Tonights The Night and Will You Love Me Tomorrow. It was a good year to turn 6.
I should have done a 1955 episode for your baby memories.
I am not that old to have records from 1960. I started my years now from 1975. Going to jump 10 years berween videos. Check my '75 video if you want to know what records were on hit list here.
I am here to guide you with old-timey music.
@@RekkidTalk Because you are 45 single guy, please join my 80s single thread. Just uploading video... Should be out later today or tomorrow (depending how long it takes to do english subs...)
@@TommysVinylnaut I'm actually over 45, oh you mean 45 rpm, not 45 years of age.
@@RekkidTalk Yeah. In the VC under 45 age are not allowed! 1980s single thread video is out tomorrow. 10 singles from each year of 80s. Thread just for you.
I collected them as well ive been looking for a song from one of them its a quiet song with a woman saying orange sounded like massive attack. Any idea ?
I pretty decent collections, well, better than what I could find here. Really depends on the price too, which I couldn't adequately see due to my current computer issues. Anyway, I saw the David Allen Coe record. Was he the one that sang the song, 'Take This Job and Shove It?' I saw a joke where there was a new follow-up song, 'If I Had A Job, I Would Tell You to Shove It."
You are thinking of Johnny Paycheck in terms of job shoving. The store at the start of this video was way overpriced, which is probably why they had so many records.
Some good choices, and some unusual picks too, Chris. The Turkish psych looked fun. Amanaz sounded interesting as well. Glad you could enter. Fun vid. Be well.
That's the only Turkish record I have.
The booths at peddlers mall in Lexington seem to never restock, i typically check every few months
That sounds right. My second visit to an antique mall is usually disappointing.
Hi Chris!! Yep, you're right that wasn't one of the "good" Peddlers mall..... but you can always find a worst one. It's sad when the only cool thing is an empty vending machine. cheers and be well
That garage rock soundalike single was pretty cool!
Thanks Chris. This was an interesting response. - Chris
No problem - are you doing this one?
I have records pulled, just in case,
I have never heard of Ale8. Do you find a lot of decent bluegrass. I use to find some cool bluegrass in WV but I was also hitting record stores. You have patience to dig through some of those piles. Antique pickled eggs, wow! $7.99 seemed a lot for most of those records, no doubt they were mint condition.
Ale-8-1 is mostly a Kentucky thing, although they've spread to nearby states. It tastes like ginger ale with a splash of a tart citrus soda like Squirt. I'm not a big bluegrass collector like Elliot Crews, but I do notice more bluegrass when I go further east, as I live in the western part of the state. Those records were in less than mint condition.
I was hoping for a mention of Juliana Hatfield. I bowed out of this tag since I seem to be focussed in North America and the UK. I'm impressed with your video! I can't do it.
If I can't get in an unnecessary JH reference, I just don't do the tag.
Good horror Laser Disc. Basket Case trilogy and Death Wish films... I would have bought at least first Basket Case!
Is there a Movie Inspector?
@RekkidTalk I sold movies 25 years, so trust me, Basket Case is a real deal!
My local Walmart quit selling albums and CDs a couple of months ago.
You'll have to get Queen's Greatest Hits elsewhere! 😅
@RekkidTalk w t.f. does that mean?????
@ I was just joking about how most Walmart albums are massive hits.
I have a Jalopy Five cover of something but I don't recall what. Those Hit 45 girl group covers can be decent. I'm Looking Good is a goody in my opinion. Other Ovations singles on Goldwax are worthy as well. I thought I was hearing some lost forgotten Sam Cooke when I first heard them.
I did a search and Jalopy Five were Nashville based studio musicians that recorded a lot of budget covers for Hit Records in the 1960s.
Lmao, Bitchen Camero is the best, nice job setting that question up
I still have that Dead Milkmen on cassette, never bought it on another format.
You look a lot younger with stocking cap. Next cut the beard and mustach! This tag is in my to do list.
NO!🧔♀
@RekkidTalk It is fun to change a look!
Hi Chris!!! how many tags have you done so far?? it seems this tag was the one missing, lol..... and thanks for the mention, will have to do something about a chilean recording. cheers and be well
I did the Collector Scum, the Punk/Garage that I combined together, and the World Music tags.
Cool shop👍 over the last 4+ decades-found most of my old vinyl treasures in small town junk antique shops
It's fun to try to pick out the gems.
Great puke pick, man!
I figured you would have to do this tag. How could you resist!? The one prompt that would trouble me is South America. There has to be something here but I can't think of what.
Yeah, had to do it. You don't have any Paraguayan girl groups?
@RekkidTalk I just realized I have jazz albums from Brazil, Argentina and probably others. My Paraguayan girl groups collection is in a terrible state.
