Craig Homesteading
Добавлен 24 сен 2013
We traveled the United States in our camper in 2022. In 2023 we stumbled upon a mountain side property for sale and fell in love with the land. This is about our journey to our dream. The dream is to clean up the land and built our cabin and start our homestead. Bring our family and animals over 900 miles to start a new life living off grid.

Yum. Blackened OSB. Nothing to see here
Does that mean we the unvetted foreigners can camp on the road as it's not your road? Asking for a friend 🥰
foreigners 🤣🤣💀 yeah yeah. i heard they speak Chinese and are from Africa but lived in Mexico. totally didn’t ask permission from the land owners. What ever shall we do!? 😱
the road belongs to the county. and as far as camping, that’s a stretch, Slim. if you’re a local and would like to help us out getting some land cleared and flattened that would be amazing. is this friend you’re asking for offering to help us get our stuff up to our property? if so that’s amazing. you’re too kind. tell your “friend” we will take help any day of the week, just not sunday because that’s the lords day. don’t be shy. stop on by. 💁🏼♀️
There's people that live in the city that have weeds that bad..
yeah. it’s crazy but way cool looking.
Looking like a home guys 🏡 ❤️🥰
Looks all too familiar 😒🤦🏻♀️
We have the same problem a lot of times prayers 🙏🙏🙏
it is definitely hard trying to get a homestead up and going with all the rain. i hope all is well with you as well 🙌🏽
It needs a good framer
please elaborate
Pouring rain down there
is it not raining there? oh man. it’s crazy here. this tarp is not working. we will be going to the sawmill tomorrow looking for rafters.
Wish it would go away
for at leAst 2 weeks lol
Matters what ya gonna use it for
it’s a pantry
Yes
That lumber can have lots of other uses. Good work!
thank you. we plan on using it outside to help life the patio door before the porch goes up, and we plan on building the skeleton to the bathroom with it. it’s already cut to size the bathroom. he’s definitely a man of many ideas
Yes, yes, yes!!!
Yeah, dont go buy a re-usable scaffold. Waste all tbat lumber building a one-use one. Absolutely genius.
i love your sarcasm and lack of knowledge. i’ll make a future post dedicated just to you ❤
😮 looks good to me
Yes
Yes
Looks Great guys!!!❤
The second floor wall still measures out perfect 24 foot. We have a gap due to a warped 2x4. Will it be okay to fill in with caulking? we can’t rebuild the 8ft section due to lack of funds and we have exactly the amount of wood we need to build. Just looking for a suggestion. We have the cabin wrapped in tyvek and will put up foam insulation. Definitely don’t need any gaps.
Put some clamps on it and throw screws in it to hold it together?
That’s if you have the funds for more screws that would be long enough to go through booth
@@DUM_DUM6000 we put clamps on it but it pushed the wood out and not together. ugh. we thought screws but wasn’t too sure about it. we might just do that. Thank you 😊
@@DUM_DUM6000 we have more screws than iowa has cows. thank you, we will definitely try that ☺️
Can you use the brush to get it off?
the brush that broke? lol. no. but we bought some squeegees and a new push broom. then some outside mold and mildew remover and bleach for mold. so fingers crossed that it works.
Looking good!
The wood we are using for the loft came from the structure that stood here many moons before us. Bringing some history of this property back to life in our new cabin that stands in its place.
Looking good
thank you ☺️
This was my grandmothers Home for over 80 years , my mother and her sisters were born and raised there , I have so many memories of this place . It was shocking to see how bad it had gotten after years of neglect after my grandmother left there. I’m so glad that you all are cleaning it up and making it a nice homestead .
this is so amazing to hear. i’m sorry it got neglected so horribly. even though it looked so bad i just knew we could make this mountainside beautiful again. thank you for sharing 😊
Lookin SO good guys!!!!❤️❤️
hopefully it stays looking good. it’s supposed to rain till the end of time it seems like after today lol
Beautiful guys!!!!❤🎉😊
Thank you!! 😊 we have been trying to dry it in before we get 12 straight days of rain
😮
Glad to see you got some helpers!
me too girl
Just Amazing guys!!!❤❤🤗🤗
Never use screw for framing
we are not using screws for framing. we used nails for everything except the bows in the lumber and the subfloor. nails were going right through the OSB with the nail gun. thank you for the advice though
How can anyone live that way?
i wish i had an answer for you. unfortunately people do and it’s sad. so so sad.
Looks like you're doing a good job
thank you, we are trying ❤to
Great outcome
thank you so much! we are definitely learning lol
Looking good.
Thank you! Maybe our next cabin will be better and just might move along faster
@@daiseemaesmith3677 From what I see, nothing wrong with the one you"re building.
@@user-tn7hc4ww3j thank you, really. we’ve made so many mistakes. i’m sure i’ll share a blooper video before we’re all done
@@daiseemaesmith3677 Please share the mistakes along the way so others may learn from them.
@@user-tn7hc4ww3j we definitely will
All wood is twisted to a certain degree. But you make it work. Peace out and good luck.
fact 🙌🏽
You guys are AMAZING!! Building a home together!!!❤ ❤❤❤❤
on hold for a bit. but hopefully we can get it finished before our August 16th deadline.
😂😂
Very excited to see the progress! Y'all are awesome!
Thank you!! 😊
Looking like the bones might still have some life left
we have saved A LOT of wood. going to buy a planer and up cycle. There will be a video of that too i’m sure.
Aww so sad
we are keeping most of the barn wood but burning only what we can’t save. just had to get those walls down before it rained. most of the floors are rotted out.
Nice.
So cool to see the old wallpaper underneath all that!! I always love seeing old places renovated and the old wallpapers and floors and stuff that gets uncovered in the process. It’s so neat to imagine when it was brand new and what sort of people and life they lived there! How old is the cabin?
it was rebuilt in this location in 1955. it was further up the mountain before that. It was definitely an interesting year down.
This is awesome!! I don’t know a ton about lions mane, but I do know they’re good for mood in that it can relieve anxiety and depression and has a calming effect. It’s amazing you have stuff like this growing naturally around your place. The woods are like a pharmacy and grocery store in one lol
we found some ghost pipe as well. there are sooo many plants here that we can forage, i’m so in love with this land.
Those chickens will absolutely LOVE free ranging at the new property!!! Plus they will be fantastic for keeping the ticks and such under control out there!
Is he wearing wellington boots?
he says, no they’re not but he wears a size 9 1/2
Tear allway fown start over
Bet you can't do shit .
It's always good to have nice neighbors like that! :D
That’s a lot of work. I pity yer back in the am
definitely
yay!!!!!🎉👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Holy buckets 😮! That’s scary! Be careful guys!!♥️
