You lost all credibility when you demonstrated total ignorance describing the difference between forged and billet. A forged lower is still machined to final dimensions from a rough forging. The forged blanks are made by a relative handful of manufacturers which are then machined by the various companies making the lowers. Sloppy tolerances come from cheap shops that don't hold close tolerances during the final machining, NOT from the forging process. Forged lowers are stronger because the grain structure is better aligned and more consistent (from being pounded into shape). The main reason for billet is that they allow more customization since it starts with a raw billet (block of aluminum).

In my opinion there are no cons to an 80% lower. I dont need an FFL dealer to go through to purchase and that is a big plus for me.

I have an Anderson lower that's very well used. Still works great but the finish is not very strong. the anodizing has worn very badly in the mag well and fire control group area. My Aero Precision lowers seem to have a MUCH stronger and harder anodizing. I swear by Aero now.

Kinda…there is definitely a difference in quality control between manufacturers as well. If you happen to get lucky and get a good PSA or Anderson that is completely within specs, great! Go forth and conquer. If you want to be sure it’s within specs, want things like flared mag wells, custom engravings, threaded spring and detent retention, cerakote /phosphorus/blued finished, or billet, you will have to spend more. That’s about it. There is definitely a law of diminishing returns at work here though. Sometimes it’s worth paying a little extra for niceties, but you’re not really getting anything more for a really expensive lower.

But is it company’s that make it or ffl type 07 who just make them??

I was going to make my own press but the parts were $30 away from buying a real one from holstersmith. Temu is s pretty amazing place to get sundries and ebay has cheap eq. Holstersmith has ALL the parts and kydex you'd ever want.

Its amazing how everything waits till your friend has ahold of it till it breaks. Either that or your brand new target stand is in play when your buddy will hit it first shot by accident. Nothing wrong with Anderson, I paid $30 more for Aero because it has the tension adjustment.

Is the application for 01 online. ?

My three AR's use Anderson receivers. Now I think some expensive receivers are worth the money, love the Sharps Bros receivers.

So...at about the 0:28 mark, you begin discussing the ATF fee. You mention that the fee is "gone" if you're not approved. That's absolutely incorrect. When you read -- slowly and carefully -- you will see (right before the very end of Page 1): "In the event a license is NOT issued, the above amount will be credited to the credit/debit card noted above." At the 5:32 mark, you can see it for yourself. What you probably read (though, not carefully enough) was where the instructions discuss not pro-rating the fee and refunding monies accordingly. We simply call guidance like this, "bad gouge." It's nothing personal...but...you might consider editing to remove the bad info. I appreciate you taking the time to create and edit this to help others, but it's important to make sure you've got it right before you publish...particularly with ATF forms.

if it's mil spec there shouldn't be any difference in the tolerance's and besides that there's only a handful of companies that make complete lowers , just because it's branded with a name doesn't mean it was made by them !!! you can get lowers with your own name on them ,you just got to buy 100 of them !!

Are there any annual renewal rules/regulations or trainings/applications? I was a small arms/artillery repair in the Army and I've always considered getting my FFL. If i plan to make transfers and "deal' firearms, but also gunsmith, would a type 01 work for both or would i need two separate? And as another question, what is the difference between FFL and FDLC? Would I need both? Or are they the same thing?

I have only ever used Anderson receivers for my builds. Honestly the cheapest thing on the build but they work. People who say otherwise generally are just trying to justify their expensive purchase.
