I did my BTZ board almost two weeks ago and man was i full of nerves. But it went really well. My package probably wasn’t as strong as a lot of those nominated but I spoke well and answered the questions presented. And I made it! Definitely a great feeling.
I went to two BTZ boards at Osan in 1987. I went to the first one and I was really sure I was not going to be their guy so I didn’t do too much to prepare other than making sure I looked sharp. It was a disaster as I really didn’t know the answer to many of the questions. I forgot about it. Two weeks later I’m on the phone in the barracks hallway with the Shirt and he’s telling me to get ready for the board again. It turns out some of the candidates had been sharing answers in the bathroom prepping their buddy and the board was considered compromised. I declined, saying I thought it was all rigged just give it to your guy I don’t need to be there. The Chief then gets on the phone and tells me that I will be there. So this time I go I have a case of the ass and start answering in the form of a question like I’m on jeopardy. It goes over their heads except for the kennel master who keeps getting glared at because he’s giggling. They ask me two questions I can’t answer and then another so I say “I’d like to buy a vowel and spin again please”. The kennel master falls out laughing and the others are like WTF? They ask me what I like best about the AF and I say “The early out program”. I get dismissed and forget about it again. Weeks later the commander comes to guardmount and gives me the stripes. My face was flushed because I thought it was a mistake. I actually went to the first sgt the next day because I was sure they’d be taken back. He told me it was no mistake. I still have the plaque upstairs, for the life of me I can’t figure out what anyone else must have done in there to do worse than me.
When I was in the AF, I only had officers and civilian engineers as my supervisor. So I never has a senior enlisted for advice and motivation. That was really detrimental.
Given that my competition have at least 2 years of experience each, and myself having just about a year at my unit, I'm not particularly confident about my odds. Franky, the presence of the other Airman and myself, apart from the 2 winners, feels like more of a formality than anything.
Am I mistaken or did the chairman misidentify the person to his immediate right as Chief Master Sargent? I thought five down and two up was a SENIOR Master Sargent. Old days when I was in, a CMSgt was six down and two up and a SMSgt was six down and one up. All I knew as an O-3 was you NEVER screwed with a chief and you let most senior enlisted run the show for you.
it does look like SMSgt when he's introduced, but a few seconds before that, you can see the top (3rd up) stripe when they're looking around. weird fold on his shoulders makes the top stripe disappear.
+JCoolUrKitten64 The hair is not only supposed to not touch the eyebrows, but is not to end below an imaginary line across the forehead at the top of the brows. I'm not trying to be picky I just think the AFI is very clear and her bangs are definitely way below where her eyebrows end. I myself have been called out on this when hair has gotten loose.
Idk if youre still helping people with the board since this video is kinda old, but i could definatly use some advice my supervisor is busy and hasn't explained the process the only thing I know about it is the date Sept. 5th.
Intro should be no more than 2 minutes. Include a short bio, a description of your job and how it relates to the mission, and your goals. You control 2/3rds of your board with the intro and conclusion. Memorize them and the question/answer session should be cake. To prepare ensure you check the front page of the portal, the AF Times and Stars and Stripes as well as your base papers. Let me know of you need any help. My team and I successfully guided 4 winners this year. Good luck.
can i also have some tips? Idk if ill get to the board due to a deployment, but i rather be prepared. Im close to finishing my CDCs. I got them in April and ill be takin my final EOC in late july or early august. I have 2 sets 5 vols total. I've finished 3-4 mo early. When I finish my CDCs I plan to get my CCAF right away and a associates in computer science along with it. I also plan to put a package in for SOAR within the next two years. So far am I on a right path? Ive been doing volunteer work base/wing wide.
Jammane, sounds like you're doing everything right to me. Make sure you keep track of your bullets so it's easy for your supervisor to write the package. Pay attention to numbers they are impressive on a 1206. Numbers like dollars raised, hours volunteered, percentage improved, speed of completion. Thes are all things that will help you with your package. Also has your supervisor submitted you for aAirman of the quarter? If not then why? You should ask that question then work on those areas your supervisor critiques. Also, make sure your supervisor knows that this is a goal of yours that may motivate them more to help you. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. Zach
@@vanessaavalosmedina3425 Aim high! Best advice is to definitely comeback to a question if you don't have an answer. Do NOT try to force something that doesn't make sense.

It be nice if her hair was in regs
It is in regs, her hair isn't touching her eyes eyebrows nor is her bun touching her collar
