I don’t think it was on purpose 😁. My guess he continued on his cross county flight, maybe a little earlier with the hazard and what they normally do is apply speed bar to move to the next thermal as fast as possible. The speed system lowers the wing angle of attack but makes it much more prone to a frontal collapse, especially when exiting a thermal. If it had been a spiral dive to loose height that would have been intentional but not an asymmetrical collapse and spiral. He would have been pooping his pants or at least I would be 😂

Hi, thanks for your comment. In general, we are very afraid of general aviation, especially of pilots in motor planes, not seeing so much and focusing on instruments. On the other side, glider pilots are flying more in the moment with eyes wide open. Therefore (at least myself) I am not so scared, especially if I am above you. And I always try to approach gliders in a way you can see me. Once in a circle, I am relaxed, knowing that I am on your »radar«. The bad situation could be if we are on the same or similar altitude not knowing for each other in prior. Both wings are barely seen from the profile on the same altitude. About waving with hands? From my perspective, without seeing your feedback, I just want to be sure you receive my greetings:). I don't think you can reply with any sign, maybe fast wave with wings? For sure we can't see good enough into your cockpit. But happy to share the same thermal 😊

@@lucho99 Years ago, I was flying a glider along the Dame Blanche range in the French Alps, taking lift along the cliff. I noticed that every time I started spiraling (once above the ridge), paragliders would "rush" to join me and spiral inside my turn radius. Once, I chose to leave the thermal after noticing that I could count the buckles on the paraglider pilot's harness. I'm not sure they realized that, given the speed differential, we are not as maneuverable as they are... (we are trained to fly very close to other gliders while thermalling, but that is a completely different business). Anyway, despite being well in sight of each other, I remember that as a rather scary experience (at the time, gliders had flarms, not paragliders).

I would say a wing wag. Rock your wings from side to side to acknowledge the glider. The only explanation for a wing wag is that you’re responding to another aircraft nearby. If I saw this, I’d know you acknowledged my wave.

Thanks! I like it, it is very direct and responsive on commands, especially if I compare it to Base2 which has pretty long and soft commands. I never flew with Rush6, so can’t give you more info comparing to that wing.

I haven't flown with Rush, so I can only give you comparison between Base2 and its predecessor Punk. However, I believe both, Rush6 and Base2 are very comparable on high B level.
