I played this on 2023 on organ concert
БОГ ЕДИН И ОН ВО ВСЕМ!
i want this played at my wedding please
The banner is not from Tarkosvky's Solaris, but from the previous film some years before
It’s originally a German folk tune transformed for organ by D. Buxtehude, Bach’s teacher. Bach developed the idea into this piece when he was 28 years old.

RIP Artemiev
13 ವರ್ಷದ ನಂತರ ಯಾರಾದ್ರು ನೋಡ್ತಿದ್ದೀರ ✌️
Amazing. Great opportunity to watch 3 of Andrei Tarkovsky masterpieces: “Andrei Rublev” (04/06), “Solaris” (11/06) e “Stalker” (18/06). facebook.com/JornalHoraDoPovo/posts/4299644650079535
The movie and music are the best representatives of magnificent Soviet's cinema and culture.
Mother Russia. A true powerhouse. People overlook Russian movies, but honestly Tarkovsky is in my list of top 3 directors.
La musica e' di un tedesco che si chiama Bach
The music is originally German and the movie is based on a Polish book.
This song feels like a marriage and a funeral
What’s the difference?
Tarkovsky's masterpiece I love his films he's like Kubrick never made a horrible film
大学1回生の時に女の子と見に行った。彼女は作品そのものもさることながらこの音楽に深く感動していた。 I saw this film at 19 with a girl friend. She was deeply moved to the film and this music.
Play this alongside the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. theme music (not Pripyat, the first two games) and you'll notice the influence. Similar length, flow, same peak, same repetition (twice). Every time I start up the first two games I always let the song play out once. Sets the mood so perfectly.
Interstellar 2014 is the reason I rented this film afterward!
Pulcherrima rosa
Only tears.
Great film and great soundtrack. Saw it in 1972 and have watched it many times since then.
i want this played at my funeral please
I had it played at my mother's funeral!
@@tiptopsound my deepest condolences :(
Hope you still alive, but yes: dito🎉
who here? #STAYINALIVE #TRYME100TIMES
"Ich rufe zu dir Herr Jesu Christ" BWV 639...Opus639 "I cry to you Lord Jesus Christ"Johann Sebastian Bach
Makes me think of a snowy day among trees and buildings of concrete in a Eastern European/Soviet country.
+Michael Ferns then you ought to watch the movie itself ... there is especially a scene where a kid is sitting in a park, winter, snow and all, and then he is reminded of that famous winter painting of Bruegel ... this movie is an all time never dying classic and that movie too!
Man this movie really tested my patience.
Un milagro
This is my favorite version of Ich ruf.... never forget the first time I heard it. Creates a very special mood that I love
I can't believe they just played this at the Opening Olympic Ceremony. I was freaking out
I know this is old. But so was!! I was so excited because it's not a popular movie, let alone soundtrack!!
the most poignant music ever! it was used again by Lars Von Trier in recently "Nymphomaniac", like an abusive statement between the poles of sublime and carnal sex - has another references of "Solaris" in the movie too. "Solaris" is a master work. "The Mirror" could be even best, but who dispise the movie doesn´t know what are talking.
No harm or offence is intended, but " 'The Mirror' could be even best, but who dispise the movie doesn´t know what are talking" should be " 'The mirror' could be even better, but whoever despises these movies don't know what they are talking about" or better yet "don't know what they are saying"
+Cid Vasconcelos Trier von Lars is pretentious prick ruining music masterpiece with his pornographic crap pretending to be some kind of art.
Preludio Coral para órgano en Fa Menor BWV 639.
Agree, but it's 2 diffrend films with some similar atmosphere. I will not call Solaris as a "Soviet 2001", but they both beautiful, both depressive, and little bit "scary".
I know. Kubrick's "The Shining" was a terrible adaptation yet a FANTASTIC movie on its own, just as good as the book. THIS, however? "Solaris 1972"? Erm... not really. Sorry, it's bad. Not "I wanted a better adaptation" bad, not even "my expectations were too high" bad. Just really, really bad. I also dislike "Stalker", though not as much. I really like "Mirror", though. That was a fantastic movie, I really enjoyed seeing it.
You do not have the right to say it's bad. You have the right to say you disliked it.
Great music, great movie, great book! Bach, Artemjev, Tarkovski, Lem. Four great men.
Agreed. Still you have to agree that they are both masterpieces of modern cinema. Also questions for thought: 1) Is the planet of Solaris supposed to be a metaphor for God or an idea from the heavens? 2) The monolith in 2001, a message from God or something from our own thought? I am up for subjective answers and different opinions.
Sad that Artemyev's wonderful electronic arrangement of Bach's BWV 639 (and BWV 639 itself, actually) had to be tainted by association with a TERRIBLE adaptation of the original novel. There is a 1968 TV film that is much more faithful to its source material, now THAT is a good adaptation of Solaris.
And writer, in spite of his plans, sees his own true wretchedness--which is not, as he probably thinks, his cynicism and loss-of-wonder, but rather the fact that his wish would defeat his own purpose: The Zone, thus, grants him insight, reflection (above his egotistic self-hate) and perhaps a way to grow above those all.
However, which desires in man are evil, and why, I wonder? Look at writer: His desire, upon coming to the Zone, was self-gratification by achieving inspiration and possibly becoming a better artist at the end (though his cynicism disallows him from believing in wonders). Scientist, despite his professional tendency towards logic, comes with the intent of destroying a place with wish-fulfilling capacities. However, in the end, he is turned, granting future wretched souls a chance at happiness.
Instead of flaming you I'd like to chime in and say that I'm not sure if the Zone indeed cultivates man's most wretched desires. You see the Zone for something that it is not, which is human, and evil. Or if it does do what you say it does, I'd like you to tell me how (and by that I mean I would enjoy reading your chain of thoughts about that). What the Zone very well is, is, in part, a symbol of man's failings (war/his own impotence in finding bliss) ; yet also of his ambitions, hopes and fears.
You should use this as a pickup line at a bar
Michael Isaac: indeed, all men should be buried accompanied by this Bach piece. It is incredible.
How big is your shower. In metres as opposed to feet?
This music haunts me so. Why, I cannot tell. So I'll sign off....
I want this played in my shower
Interesting
fascinating
Do doopy z taki goovnem
Truly one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. There's a really gorgeous transcription played on the piano by Dinu Lipatti which moves me even a little more - the piano is so much more intimate. But what a composition! Here's the Lipatti recording: ruclips.net/video/gkUZX77vNtc/видео.html
bach is the greatest composer of all time, mozart and beethoven couldn't even be his apprentice
far better than 2001 space odyssey
You know your bach, but not your Tarkovosky.
Yep it is like graffiti on an architectural monument as the Sydney Opera House.
Yaaawn
Oddly enough, the title "I Call Upon Thee, Lord Jesus Christ" is not mentioned in the credits. Instead it says, (in translation) 'The score includes J. S. Bach's chorale prelude in f minor', which I always took to be prevarication on the part of the Soviet Union's producers.
Do you really mean that Solaris is a "bloody film"???????? I hope I haven't understood well. This is one of my FAVOURITE pieces of music and I think that it's wondefylly combined with another kind of Art (with the capital A).
The piece of Art is the music of JS Bach. To associate or even incorporate it into a bloody film is tasteless, a commercial cheap trick and can only be condemded by people with a perception for Art. Imagine your favorite piece of music is used for a bloody commercial to sell shoes;-) You better think twice
