Benjarmon is full of crap

When I saw the thumbnail and title of this video I thought that it would be another guy stuck in his edgy, "dark humour" phase (saying slurs and making offensive jokes just for the sake of being offensive) whining about how the world has become woke and cancel culture is getting out hand blah, blah, blah... But I was genuinely suprised about this video having an actually comprehensive and logical outlook on all of these dated jokes. The moral of not dwelling on the past but instead learning from it is something a lot of people should hear. In summary, big props to you for making this video and not enabling negative behaviour.

I think ian and anthony dressed as gangsters and acting like gangsters is more making fun of how a lot of white suburban kids actually acted around that time.

I still think Smosh can get away with most of these jokes, simply because they keep making fun of themselves in all of them. It's the unlikable characters that make the most awful jokes. It's too stupid to be taken seriously, and that's where their joke power lies. They're not making fun of fat people, they're just showing a weird dude who teleports who happens to be fat. They're not making fun of democrats, it's a literal box saying these silly things, it doesn't even get into real politics. Beef 'nd go is just such a stupid thing to begin with, nothing they say really holds any value after that, although yeah maybe the Britney Spears joke is in poor taste, but because it's such a stupid video to begin with it gets a pass from me. I agree that Ian's reaction to the "Brad" girl would not hold up today, neither does mouthing the n-word. The old meme references, taquito getting shredded etc. is just a matter of taste, I think they'd do well in the "list" kind of videos, just a silly/tired "pfffffff ha-ha-ha, classic smosh" kind of joke to break the pace a little. I don't know enough about the boxman video to comment on that. Okay this turned into a list but I'm really passionate about what humour gets a pass and what doesn't-- the main thing to take away is that as long as creators are making fun of themselves rather than marginalized people, I think it's okay - and that's something that gets forgotten a lot of the times.
