New version - Elizabeth Taylor as Joan of Arc - Joan's Aria from the 1962 film Phantom of the Opera
Elizabeth Taylor WAS slated to portray Joan of Arc, but the production never came to be. Since "Joan's Aria" from the 1962 Hammer film, "The Phantom of the Opera", had always moved me with it's beauty and impending doom, and to settle my curiosity about how Elizabeth would have appeared as Joan, I decided to make this video. Using some computer magic, I combined two photos - a still of Carolyn Jones' body as Joan from the film "House of Wax" and a portrait of Elizabeth's head from "Ivanhoe". Once the "combine" was done, I created an appropriate background and different positions for "Joan". The music is by Edwin Astley, and Patricia Clark did the vocals....

@@nancyinboise2160 - writing for the complete comprehension of anyone reading your words is nearly impossible to do. I thought I was clear enough in my description to let everyone know I was using images I created of Elizabeth as Joan and using the music (vocals) from the film. My apologies if I misled you.

Her brother Howard was similar in appearance. Just breathtakingly handsome! Her dad, Francis was gorgeous too. Apparently her paternal grandmother, whom I believe she got the Rosemond name from, was just as beautiful. There are no public photos of her though.

YES!!! This is GLORIOUS... I heard the composer wrote an entire opera for the film "Phantom of the Opera" and allowed the director to use "whatever he wished" for the movie... boy... what I would do to hear Astley's opera...
Thank YOU, and you are most welcome!! I don't know that Astley wrote a "whole" opera, but for sure he would have had to write more than what was in the final cut of the film. I refuse to believe that if he had, indeed, composed an entire opera that it wouldn't have been performed as such at many different opera companies, etc. I remember seeing the film as a child and immediately "flipping out" over "Joan's Aria". @@The5thSphinx I remember reading... somewhere that he did write a complete score... and some folks felt it was to ... I don't know... something... I would LOVE to have seen it... I am a composer... operetta... mostly... I would LOVE to take this and recreate an entire opera on these small sections... giving complete credit to the composer... with OR without the families permission... they can SUE me after its made a complete REBIRTH of the failing opera scene... (and we can negotiate in court...)

Clark sang for Heather Sears in all scenes where she was required to sing, including the trying rehearsal scene, with Ambrose Darsey(I left off "Lord" because that sonofabitch was beneath lordship!) squirming in his theatre seat. My thoughts exactly! Alas, the little bits in the film, "Joan's Aria" being the exception, don't add up to very much. I do wish, however, that "Joan's Aria" wasn't so short. The aria was released as an instrumental as a 45 rpm single, but that's it.
