Hi Benny! Thank you for your template, I think it will work for me. Typically I have a checklist for Mon-Fri that includes habits like workouts, appointments, reminders, etc. When setting up recurring tasks, I’ve added one for each of my recurring tasks. I did replicate the “Duplicate” labeled template. Strangely, only one of the recurring tasks is showing on my calendar, and under “Today” and I’m not sure why. Help! They are all set to recurring for daily so I’m not sure why they are all hidden from the main calendar view except one. As for separate templates, I have tried keeping a habit tracker separate from tasks/calendar things, but found I work better when I can see everything and check things off daily one day at a time in the same spot.
Thanks for your feedback Kate! As long as the repeat feature is turned on (blue arrows icon visible), each new recurring task will be added to the database in the interval you defined. These recurring tasks will only show up after they actually got created by the automation, so for one set to daily, you won’t see them in the database until tomorrow. The automation runs only once a day, but you can define the time. Does that answer your question? 🤔
Would love to watch a video on how you incorporate: 1. Habit Tracker 2. Focus Tracker 3. Task Manager All of these into your Notion Calendar, how you plan meetings, have focus times and OOOs etc and many more functionalities of Notion Calendar.
Thanks for the input! Honestly, at the moment Notion Calendar is not something I use extensively other than putting in appointments and scheduling meetings with it. The current integration with Notion lacks too many features, for example you can see tasks from your Notion database in the calendar, but you can't mark them as complete. In the end, I'm always back to working in Notion directly. But I will cover Notion calendar at some point and you sparked some ideas already, so thanks for that! 😁🙏

Thank you for watching! 😁
I like the way you teach. All looks easy to do now. Thanks.
Thank you! 🙏
Love it. Great info... Thanks for the notion alpha Benny
Thanks for the support, love your content btw! 🙏
Really helpful, watch out 2025 I got notion to track all my tasks!
That's the spirit!
Huge value thankyou bro❤
Cheers buddy! 🙏

Thanks so much for your support and kind words, I really appreciate it! 🥹
This is a really great tutorial- it's so thorough and easy to follow, and that might be one of the most unique Notion habit trackers I've seen! Looking forward to whatever you do next! I'd love to see what kind of budgeting system you could develop.
Wow, this really means a lot. 🥹 Making these tutorials takes a long time as I do it all on my own at the moment, so it’s a great confirmation to hear you find it useful. Thank you! 🙏
Amazing tutorial! I'm quite a beginner with Notion, but I could easily understand the steps and learned something new
Awesome! Honestly, this is the best feedback, because that's exactly why I start from scratch and go through every step. I want to get everyone on board! 😁 Thanks so much for your kind words! 🙏
Nice tutorial. Most Notion videos make assumptions and leave stuff out. You can actually follow this one and make a habit tracker. Great job!
That’s my plan, as I think the best way to actually learn how to use Notion is by building cool stuff that gets you excited to figure things out. Thanks for the feedback! 🙏
My hero, super valuable g keep it up <3

Epic! This is just what I needed, thanks! Do you happen to know if you can add a step to this shortcut that ads a tag to the task?
This is currently only possible by creating a custom iOS shortcut that communicates with the Notion API directly, which is certainly not as simple to set up. I haven't done this myself yet, but I have seen some tutorials for it from other creators. 👍
Thank you so much!! Life saver
Thanks for your feedback and kind words! 😁🙏
This is my first Notion tutorial and I already see several things to improve on for the next one. Please don't hesitate to share your honest feedback and suggestions! 😊🙏 And don't forget to like & subscribe - it will help me massively to get closer to my goal of reaching 1k subscribers before the end of this year! 🎯
Thanks Benny. Super helpful!!
Thanks so much for the kind words, it really means a lot! 😊
Really great and clear video! It worked for one night for me... and that night was awesome! But now the shortcut seems to not recognize my Inbox database that I am trying to put the captured voice note into. It keeps prompting "Where would you like to add this page to?" and only offering "Private Pages." No databases. Probably an issue on Notion's side. If you end up finding a work around, I'll definitely watch and like video! Thanks again for this one!
Thanks for the kind words and feedback, Georgia! I was facing the same problem the other day, but was able to resolve the issue. Please take a look at "Update #3" in the pinned comment, which is what did the trick for me to make it work again! 👍
@@BennyBuildsIt I ended up figuring it out! I think the shortcuts app would get confused whenever I had two databases on one page. When I put the Voice Capture Database (a new database I created for my dictated tasks to go into) on a separate page, it worked perfectly. And has worked perfectly ever since. Thought I'd share!! I love how clear your videos are. Will definitely follow and keep watching! :) <3
ℹ Update #3: The action has been renamed again and is now called "Create Document Without Opening". If your shortcut broke for some reason (it did for me), try to update your Notion app and recreate the shortcut with this newly named action. 👍 ℹ Update #2: ̶I̶t̶ ̶w̶o̶r̶k̶s̶ ̶a̶g̶a̶i̶n̶,̶ ̶j̶u̶s̶t̶ ̶m̶a̶k̶e̶ ̶s̶u̶r̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶s̶e̶l̶e̶c̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶n̶e̶w̶ ̶"̶C̶r̶e̶a̶t̶e̶ ̶P̶a̶g̶e̶ ̶W̶i̶t̶h̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶O̶p̶e̶n̶i̶n̶g̶"̶ ̶s̶h̶o̶r̶t̶c̶u̶t̶ ̶a̶c̶t̶i̶o̶n̶!̶ ℹ Update #1: ̶U̶n̶f̶o̶r̶t̶u̶n̶a̶t̶e̶l̶y̶,̶ ̶r̶e̶c̶e̶n̶t̶ ̶u̶p̶d̶a̶t̶e̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶N̶o̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶a̶p̶p̶ ̶h̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶c̶h̶a̶n̶g̶e̶d̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶b̶e̶h̶a̶v̶i̶o̶r̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶"̶C̶r̶e̶a̶t̶e̶ ̶a̶ ̶N̶o̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶p̶a̶g̶e̶"̶ ̶a̶c̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶o̶p̶e̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶c̶r̶e̶a̶t̶e̶d̶ ̶p̶a̶g̶e̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶i̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶a̶p̶p̶ ̶u̶p̶o̶n̶ ̶c̶r̶e̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶,̶ ̶w̶h̶i̶c̶h̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶f̶r̶a̶n̶k̶l̶y̶ ̶p̶r̶e̶t̶t̶y̶ ̶a̶n̶n̶o̶y̶i̶n̶g̶.̶ ̶I̶ ̶h̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶s̶e̶n̶t̶ ̶f̶e̶e̶d̶b̶a̶c̶k̶ ̶a̶b̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶N̶o̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶t̶e̶a̶m̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶h̶o̶p̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶y̶ ̶c̶h̶a̶n̶g̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶a̶g̶a̶i̶n̶.̶
Thanks for responding to the feedback Benny. I appreciate it! By the way I noticed that it doesn't open the app if I choose the "Add text to page" option. Strange. UPDATE: I emailed Notion (as you suggested below) about this issue. Fingers crossed! ANOTHER UPDATE: Wow they responded within 10 minutes! They will pass along my feedback to their product team.
@@Dolvid I'm hopeful that they change this behavior again. I can't think of a scenario where automatically opening the app through a shortcut makes sense, because then you could just open the app directly yourself. Or they should just add a stand-alone "Open Notion page" action, which now is only possible by using the general "Open URL" shortcut and inputting the Notion page URL.
I literally found your video yesterday and started it and loved this concept and then noticed this open page change as well. I hope they change it back
This was working for me but now it does not add the page into the database I select. It will ask "Where would you like to add this page to?" and only gives the option of "Private Pages" which adds it at the top level in the selected Notion workspace and not within the selected database within the selected workspace. It's like it is ignoring the database location instruction. Any ideas?
@@ts-photo I was facing the same problem yesterday and was able to fix the problem by recreating the shortcut. The action has been renamed once again to "Create Document Without Opening". If you don't see this new action name, try to reinstall/update the Notion app.
Thanks but for me after put the noted, the page in Notion app pop up.
same
Same here, how come yours doesn’t pop up on your iPhone? Very helpful video!
Yes, unfortunately recent updates to the Notion app seem to have come with the "Create a Notion page" action to automatically open the page upon creation. 🥲 I have sent feedback about this to the Notion team, explaining that this does not make sense, which is all we can do now. If you want to do the same, you can shoot them a message via team@makenotion.com. I do hope they fix this again and maybe create a separate "Open Notion page" action instead. 🙏
@@BennyBuildsIt Thanks for this :)
Now it fixed 🎉.. Thanks for your VDO 😊
Great video! What about more properties? is this only working for these two or can you add more steps in the shortcut to ask for more property values?
Thanks Sergey! At the moment, you can only customize the title and body of a page with the built-in Notion app actions. To go beyond that and to customize specific property values, you need to create custom shortcuts using code to interact with the Notion API directly, which I might cover in a future video.
Thanks Benny - super easy and really helpful!
Really appreciate your feedback Dan, thanks so much! 🙏
Both shortcuts work most of the time, but randomly they don't work and I get this error - “SharedModels.NotionNetworkManagerError error 3” . Any idea what's causing this and how to fix?
This error seems to occur whenever the shortcut could not communicate properly with the Notion servers, either because your data connection was not stable or there was a problem on the server side of Notion. It happens every once in a while, but very, very rarely for me.
Very useful thank you. Is there anyway of using Siri to dictator or trigger the shortcut?
Yes there is! You can activate any shortcut by simply saying the given shortcut name after activating Siri. In the case of the video example, that would be "Hey Siri, Notion Quick Note" or "Hey Siri, Notion Voice Note". Thanks for your feedback! 🙏
@@BennyBuildsIt This worked great thanks
Great stuff. Subscribed! Any ideas for how to capture a note by creating a new page from a *Template*? For example: I have a centralized "Journals" database I use across all my spheres of life (Personal, Work, Creative, etc.). If I want to jot down a quick Journal and have it be filtered as "Personal" Journal, I would want to tap a shortcut like the one in your video and have it create a Templated page "Personal Journal" which already has a few key filters applied to it to make sure it routes to the right workspace page. Any thoughts?
Thank you for the feedback! 🙏 Regarding your question - how do you categorize your journal entries into the different spheres? Do you have a select property to add a category to each entry or something similar? 🤔
@@BennyBuildsIt I have an "All Journals" database with a Multi-select for "Journal & Note Type" (I have been capturing Notes and Journals in the same database). The "Journal & Note Type" tags include broad categories (Personal, Work) and notes for specific big projects. Then, I have Templates within my Journals database where the "Journals & Note Type" tag is already filled out (e.g. if I want to capture a journal or note for my music project, I have a template for "Songwriting Note" where Journal & Note type automatically has the "Music" tag assigned). I have a filtered view of my "All Journals" database at the top of all of my main workspace pages where I filter by "Journal & Note Type", so when I go to each workspace, I see all of the notes I had over the week that I grabbed and tagged. Hopefully this isn't too hard to parse out via RUclips comment. Would be happy to capture a little Loom video and shoot it over.
@@kellerxd It's alright, I fully understand. With the simple shortcut setup that I explain in this video, I think the only way for you to achieve this is by using a database automation together with trigger words within your journals database. When you click on the ⚡ symbol in the top right of your journals database, you can set up a trigger and an action. What you could do now is to create multiple automations that trigger when "all" of these occur: "Page added" + "Title Property contains X", with "X" being a specific keyword that you add to each journal entry, and then you define the action to follow that trigger as "Edit property" and choose the related tag property value. So for example, if you then just type a quick note that reads "Personal: Buy milk", then this automation trigger will automatically recognize the word "Personal" and will therefore set the tag to "Personal". The caveat here is that it requires a trigger word to be included in the note itself. I believe it is also possible to create a shortcut that allows you to add the tag information directly, but that is not as easy to do at the moment, because the "Create a database page" action that is currently available does not allow to specify any property beyond the title and body content of the page. Hope that helps! ☺👍
