Просмотров 46 тыс.4 года назад
Repairing the frame on my 1997 toyota 4 runner using safe-t-cap patch panel and some fabrication with old steel laying around the shop, make sure yall subscribe for more content!
Nice work and great save!
I’ve got a 2006 tundra that needs help, it’s not this bad, but both sides need some repair panels welded in place.
RUclips wont let me give you a thumbs up. But GREAT JOB 👍
I remember years and years ago, on my late 80’s f150 you could change all 4 bulbs in 1min 30seconds flat. No special tools needed. Just hands. Any size hands, big or small works just the same. Now, working on anything is so GD frustrating and convoluted. I give up on doing stuff like this anymore. Everything is a hassle. And a sequence of very specific events has to take place in the exact order. Then, the stars must be aligned just right on the 3rd full moon from the summer solstice. Ridiculous and absurd. I’m done w it. lol
It’s like a cruel joke they way they have this setup. There is an access hatch, but just big enough for a string bean arm to fit through. I have to shove and shove for my arm to fit. And even then, I can barely just grab hold of the harness to unscrew it from the housing. Then, the wire lead is so GD short, there isn’t even enough slack to pull the bulb from the housing fully. I said F this nonsense. I’ll have the dealer install them, this way if they break something they have to fix it. I’m too old now to be monkeying around with this piss poor design. I had magnitudes more patience when I was younger.
my friend I am a small dude and I was wondering what the design was when installing these. absolutely ridiculous imo.
I bought a 2001 4Runner in 2015. I crawled under a bunch of them trying to find one that I could work with. Frames in the Midwest are notoriously bad because of the salt. Finally found one that was rusty but solid. Used a grinder and sanded on the frame to clean it up. For the inside I drilled a hole through three 3/8 x 1" hex bolts and put them on a cable and then put the end of the cable in an electric drill and then ran that down inside the frame to beat the rust off of the inside of the frame. It was loud as hell banging around inside the frame, but it worked. Cleaned the rust out and then painted inside and outside of the frame with Por15. It's now 2024 and my 4Runner has 150,000. Went over the frame again this summer. Clearly saved it because it's hanging in there really well.
Now spray it with Fluid Film and it will guarantee it to not rust again. Por15 coated with Fluid Film is bulletproof.
the frame is typically rusted to swiss cheese on the passenger side middle because it's next to the highest temp part of the exhaust system. It will melt all snow/ice in there and keep it saturated in water all winter long, whereas the rest of the frame will be coated in regular snow and ice instead of water.
Don't forget to lanolin coat the underside of that beast after doing that excellent patch job!!
Hitting your torch path with a needle scaler will save you some time and a decent amount of oxy/acetylene. Even banging on it with a hammer to shake the big pieces loose, torches tend to side flame between layers, the rust delamination spots, the same reason you can cut one layer off of another with a torch without harming the back layer... air gap
thanks for sharing this video. Can you share how you did dual low/high beam work together?
This is a job where a plasma cutter would have been super helpful in quickly cutting the metal.
Great video! Very detailed installation steps. How do these LEDs perform on your truck now?
I bought 2000-4runner limited 4x4 in 2019. 344,000-miles ran like a beast. Put brakes, shocks and struts. covid came so things got sidetracked. Then a water pump and twin overhead cams that was a learning process. Then finding out a 20-year old vehicle my clanging noise was bushings, alot of them worn. then the frame, every video out there is curbside rot. I am from N.E. Ohio and I was going to putting patches in and try tacking that trailing arm bracket untill I seen your video this morning. We have rust busters frame parts not to far from me and Summit racing uses them as a vendor. I will now seeing your video replace the section with arm bracket. Thank You...!
Ambitious project, beautiful work!
Want to change my leaking rear diff cover?
Toyota screwed so many loyal customers. I had a 95 T-100. The control arms collapsed wile I was driving it.
220 volt mig?
My Michigan 2002 looks much better than this
Liked and subscribed, just purchased a 2010 Tacoma. Has some issues with the frame! Nice work!!
On the blinkers, they have a CK Socket, so if you get the 7443D-CK they will work.
With the blinker bulbs the reason they didn’t work is that the factory bulb wasn’t a dual filament (as far as I could tell). If so it wasn’t designed with both circuits to stay on dimly and then flash. Vehicles that have the parking lights stay on all the time and then blink should work with the switchbacks.
I can’t believe that brake in half…. One of the worst I’ve seen and I am in Ontario Canada. Our roads are still salty in summer!😂
Do you do repairs ?
Wow ! Amazing job man ! Gives my GX470 life n Hope !
That cutoff is a foot higher at that distance. Did you ever align the bulbs or aim the housings to stop blinding other drivers?
What about for 2022 ram 2500? Bighorn
Are canbus required?
i did all led on mine, i even found these cores to put on the wires to block the rf signals that the break lights give off
Wish you continued RUclips man! This was a great video
Nice
Where can this be purchased from ?
Yikes. I guess mine isn't too bad d!🤷🏼♂️
Do you have part numbers or links to all the lights you got
needed to see this after buying my 4runner thatll only need one or two plates😂😭🤣
jesus fing christ!
nice welding job, about the best i have seen on these frame repair videos
Excellent work, giving me hope, i have 1997 one much better then this one, but a little some rust on the frame, see depends on who you take the car to for repair, to me anything is repairable just depends on how much time/effort you want to put on it.
That is legitimately the worst frame I've ever seen in my life! I've seen a LOT of rusty 4runners but none nearly this bad
And i thought my tundra frame was bad. I've been patching it, but even still it's not half as bad as that & i'm almost to the point of getting another truck.
FYI: Rubberized undercoating is a sponge for moisture, it's the worst thing to use in rot prevention, epoxy based mastic sealers are the best to use, they don't absorb water . Find any vehicle that had Rubberized undercoating applied when the vehicle was new, years later.... you've got a rust bucket hidden by Rubberized undercoating.
Just drove through a snow storm this past January and my rear trialing arm mount finally went on my 2000 4Runner SR5, on the drivers side. Totally thought it was in better shape than the passenger side, but it's got me putting my favorite vehicle on the back burner. Glad I found this video tackling a way worse frame. Thanks for the inspo!
Nice job piecing it all together. I'd love to see where you go with the Toyota. I'm not really interested in diesels.
Nice Job From Vermont. 01/17/2023
Same thing i did way better
I meant to tell you, i have a 2020 Ram 2500.
Lasfit LED Reverse lights don't work either. Won't fit the light socket. I sent mine back
Hi do you remove the gas tank??
Looking to repair some frame rust on my 03 Sequoia. Nothing compared to the 4 Runner just a few golf ball sized holes glad I came across your video let’s me know it’s not going to be that hard of a job.
have you done any work yet? I have a few small holes on my 4runner but nothing too big.
@@braxtonwise9897 I did the repair last month and it was pretty easy.
