Airborne Forces WW2 Depot Memorial - Hardwick Hall 2024
The Parachute Regimental Association on Parade with the Yorkshire and Midlands Regions taking part in the memorial to the Depot of the Airborne Forces, based here during WW2. Hardwick Hall was chosen to toughen up soldiers ready to become Paratroopers with the 1st and 6th Airborne Divisions. Once they had proven themselves ready for Airborne Forces they would speed march to RAF Ringway, now Manchester Airport, to complete their Parachute training. The two divisions totaled 20,000 men, but with battlefield casualties over the following five years, many more men that this would pass through the depot.

I miss you my great grandad 1/4/2019 💔
This video just popped up on my selection today. But i have heard of Stewart McLaughlin and am aware of his brave and selfless leadership during the battle of Mount Longdon. He deserves nothing less than a Victoria Cross for his actions despite 42 years having elapsed since the event and his death.
would love to be able to get hold of a copy of our pass out parades for both 24 platoon depot para juniors in 85 and 513 platoon depot para 85/86
I had chips and peas on that bench...
I was attached from Sherwood Foresters (Ilkeston) to 23 PFA, Gornji Vakuf 1996. They were a good bunch apart from the odd stab hater. Hated losing my SUSAT though to ironsight. Unit photographer/ambulance driver... was then attached to 1 AFA when 23 left, and they were the worst unit I ever met.
My Uncle Robert Evison was in the 6th Airbourne Division, 13th Battalion, 5th Parachute Brigade.
Go para Go 💪💪💪💪💪👍👍👍👍👍👍☝️
THE SOLDIERS EYES MOVE A LOT.=I THINK THAT THEY NEED MORE TRAINING...!
I was on that square back in 1976 the RHQ block, training wing as was then and Sgts mess still look the same as does the Drill shed. Brings back some memories.
Why doesnt the british army cater to minorities? its still nothing but white people despite britain being one of the most diverse nations on the planet. Come on britain you can do better
Hi, Do you have any information on a Fred ‘Yank’ Hall who was with the 508th and married a local English lady Doris Abbott ?
Scouse deserved the VC led from the front heart of a lion brains of a judge
Thank you mark for posting this video 😊
Can’t understand this the citation was wrote, that’s the most important part. If it’s lost, so what,it had been written and everyone knows that so therefore should be upheld. Absolutely crazy it’s still taken this long.
Hi there, we are a local family and would like to help with the restore the bench and possibly replace the one that has gone. If there is a good way to get in contact with yourselves to let you know how we can help, then please let me know.
The Miss Marple appreciation Society annual gathering.
Nice stuff. Early days Capt Mickey Munn in the 80s Great chap
I missed that gathering. RIP Neil Hunter, Mac Mcmenamin and any Airborne brethren no longer with us.
Pete passed? I worked with him for a decade after he finished.
My P company basic training starts in September!
I'm digging the old school Paras ... Pot-Belly Stallions! Much respect from a veteran of the American 75th Ranger Regiment (and Pot-Bellied Stallion as well). Sua Sponte men!
I did this way back in the 80s. With HQ COY 4 P. I remember the red devil landing in the car park on a car. Happy days.
Nice Mark. We will remember them. 👍❤
Save anyone a major headache. You'll wait what seems a lifetime listening to the most boorish yammering and then when the jumpers away, they just zoom all the way in blurry and white. You see nothing else. Lame and horribly crappy jumpers.
@@ffffffffffffffs so have I and never saw something that is as boring as a silkworms transformation.
@@ffffffffffffffs there's tons of them!
@@canatolakhoemini6728 Those who can do , Those who can't........... criticise and basically talk sh1te !
Parachute regiment toughest soldiers in the world they really are ready anything yew tree paratus
Truly well done chaps. To pass out as a Para is an immense achievement. You make me proud to be British. Thank you for your service to our country.
P Company is a Massive Achievement for the Fittest Soldiers Only. I was a trained infantryman that couldn't get past P Company; P Company sadly isn't anything about jumping from aircraft & more about being an elite small unit, that in the modern theatre of battle makes them undermanned & take to many losses. All infantry Regiments should have the right to go to Brize Norton. The Maroon Beret has over egged the job in hand making it a small elite band of Rightfully so proud brothers. Sadly P Company is an injury waiting to happen.
Lest We Forget.
Not one response no problemo, yer all transmutants willingly, say goodnight, oh BTW yer all preying on each other draconian vampires, but sure generic entity doesn't care, right... no problemo, thanks for you're help. Just fyi, this was you only, really
I was subscriber number 200!!
a long time has passed since I was on passing out parade, Those S/Ds would have been thrown out the window
Even referred to as the red devels! F*ck off f*cking looooosers! Devel-opers. As well as the Muslim Brotherhood fiasco! You are being eliminated!
Parachute regiment is compromised. I know I was at Catterick barracks! Where I was attacked of a escalation of what was attacking I before going there in 2017 Athens platoon, where there was a Saudi Arabian asshole laced with bioweapons upon the molecular in the platoon! And when a barracks in Saudi Arabia is something more than just diplomacy! Read what I have written!
I joined the 4para back in 2007 I just was not good enough to pass the p company. Now I'm 33 years old. Still hav the gut feeling of not trying again.
12:17, oh dear.
Don't forget us Junior Para Company Guys back in the day. Malta Bks Aldershot. 1971-1972.and before. alot of guys went on to the Para Regt 1-3 personally i didnt. i did jnr but after all the log runs across long valley.I then went on to be a Sapper for 22 Years. better digging holes with a machine than a shovel lol
Usually at least one pair of special forces wings in para events but I couldn’t see any
45 years after my pass out parade, the HQ building and the parade shed are still there unchanged. No expense spared in today's army. Also, our marching and movements were all in silence (piss man), no orders given.
Any tips for getting through basic training?
Dors anyone of these so called army ever showed how to use an Iron on trousers: creases are terrible
Up the Reg
The ludicrous latex secondarily bolt because rutabaga extraorally glow with a wandering sunday. fat faulty, vague deal
What music is it at the end when they are marching off and is is it from Germany is 2nd world war
Why is the WO1 (RSM) wearing officers gloves? Have Regimental dress regulations been changed, or is he just 'coming the capers' because it's slightly chilly?
WO1 wear Officer brown gloves and Sam Browne belt. WO2s do not.
@@Fbo194 Not in The Parachute Regiment old son! At least they didn’t when I was RSM in 1997-9! And they didn’t when I completed my 28 years of service!!
Many apologies! Just seen it a lot in my experience. @@billperry7549
Just checked ADR out of interest and it says for PARACHUTE REGIMENT: "29. Accoutrements WO1s: Sam Browne belts are to be dark tan in colour. Sword frogs are to be worn at all times with the Sam Browne belt. WO’s and SNCO’s: Red worsted sashes are to be worn by all Warrant Officers Class 2 and senior NCOs Red silk sashes are to be worn by Warrant Officers Class 1. " So apparently it's either a Sam Browne belt or a red sash! @@billperry7549
Best Reg in the world...just a shame it's represents a country that's becoming more of a shithole third world country on a daily basis....I served with 1 Para in the 80s and if I knew back then what was going to happen here I would of never served....I did enjoy my time though
Respect to them all.
why are some wearing brown and others wearing black
Baby cherry berets
Up the Reg 🇬🇧👍🏻❤️
Great to see some berets being worn as traditional, not as flat hats. I do think camera operators should be required to wear something smart. The bloke who goes out to film the inspection really is a scruff bag.
Only makes the lads look smarter 😀 A Bentley looks nice, but it looks nicer next to a Subaru
Shame about the random still from A Bridge Too Far showing Deventer bridge.
Ah, a fabled Golden Lanyard on display. Don't see many of them.
Hello. My name is Alistair Young and I am a teacher from Bradford. I am starting to create my third educational video related to teaching young people about the importance of remembrance. I would like to do a section on the incredible sacrifices made by our military services and would love your help if possible by allowing me to use some of this incredible footage with appropriate crediting of course. Thanks so much
