My random adventures. From diving and spearfishing to riding my dirt bike and SXS to building and fixing my projects. Doing the things I love and hopefully getting some adrenaline rushes along the way. These aren’t “How to” videos, they are “How I did it” videos, they are for entertainment purposes only.
Cleaning Pistons, Installing Main & Cam Bearings on an LS1, 1992 Chevy C1500 LS/T56 Swap.
When I bought my LS and tore it down, it was obvious the engine had been rebuilt. It was rebuilt well but it wasn’t maintained well. Everything needed a good wash including the pistons. The pistons are in good condition but need to be cleaned. I cleaned them by hand then placed them in a sonic cleaner, then placed them in boiling engine oil. Clean and well lubricated, they are ready to go back into the engine, but I need to build up the engine so it is ready to accept the pistons. Everything still rotates as it should. I do everything my own way including cleaning and building this engine.

Cleaning and Porting LS Heads, 1992 Chevy C1500 LS/T56 Swap.

My 799 LS heads didn’t originally come on this engine, so there has been previous work done on them. The heads are in pretty good condition, but they are pretty dirty. I disassembled them in preparation to clean. Once they were taken all apart, I decided that I should try my hand at porting them, I just gasket matched them to the headers and the intake. Installing an Air Ride Seat & Air Compressor. 1961 International Harvester B-163 Bus.
Hi, i had so much trouble with rebuilt engines turning rod bearings burning off cam lines and blowing head gaskets that I gave up on rebuilders and sourced my engines from salvage yards. I would ask for a wrecked vehicle that looked well maintained and after a test try I'd put on my own heads & induction system including camshaft & aftermarket peripherals like Hooker Race Headers etc. I never had another failure. I did have a lot of fun including full-out racing. It wasn't that hard to find a good factory original engine with good life left in it and it was much quicker than building one. ben/ michigan
@benjamincresswell3713 o absolutely. I got excited and bought the first decent looking engine, it was not good looking on the inside. This is my first v8 I've rebuilt so we'll see how it goes.
Sweet new video

What a mess just put them in the dish washer that’s basically what a parts washer is
@user-vp5rb6wy2y probably work.
You're not gaining nothing the only way you're going to make some gain is you're going to have to have a board out to 600 CFM I just did a stroker motor and all that stuff you're doing just wasting your time cuz maybe you need a bigger fuel pump too you need a fuel pump on like a 454 vehicle anyway that's the story you're just wasting your time I'm sure you're and you can't get any more fuel pressure than your fuel pump will push
@davidgentz1731 double negative, so I'm gaining everything. Thanks for your support.

@@IsDefinitelyHuman junk yard engine, but I think the torque is 15 ft/lbs then 85 degrees. So I just torqued them to 50 ft/lbs
I just retired a 95 Chevy G20 305 277,000 miles leave him alone just change the oil every 4,005,000 me and use a good oil and being done with it
@davidgentz1731 This engine would've made it to that if I was nicer to her. I drove her like she was stolen and was always tinkering. I pulled her at 197k. I'm not original, and I'm doing an LS Swap now.
I'm pretty sure 15 pounds plus 90° is 7 1/2 ugga duggas
@kevinthurlow5487 lol, I just torqued them to 50ft/lbs which I believe is around 7.5 ugga duggas
I would stay with the oem spec
@buddysautomotiveSD that's what I found was recommended, so I torqued them to 50 ft/lbs cause I'm not a smart man.

Best from worked when I did it to my whipe
@Qtblazin420 everybody keeps saying. That I guess I'll go with the stock torquing specs
I’ve always had success with tightening them until they strip, or snap off, then back it off 1/4 turn.
Lol, I was thinking of just assembling with jb-weld then hit em with the ugga dugga
"Not quite sure what they are" *proceeds to explain what they are* brother you have to do the process, no shortcuts
No sure what brand they are or any other info about them. I just have a part number that doesn't really give me much. 12555820, maybe you can help.

@@3longatedMuskr4t did you find more info on it? That would be super helpful
@@3longatedMuskr4t yea you tell him
Torque specs are based on the bolt I'm pretty sure
I know just hoping a bunch of random internet people will give me the correct number.
Can’t say I’ve ever torqued a set of pistons.
Rod bolts is what I meant, but yeah I was unclear.
@@crescenthammer hahaha. Best suggestion is do the torque/angle sequence. You can try to find amount with torque wrench but prob have all others done in same amount of time. Also seen where someone suggested going with arp rod bolts and use their torque, don’t do that without having the big end resized because it will egg them.
@zcivicef dam it, I guess I'll do it the right way.
Torque to yeild, you have issues with degrees?
No it's just a pain in ass
Tight....
How tight, a few ugga duggas or just what my heart tells me.
What’s it going on to ? So many different answers, some require 15 lbs , some 33lbs and an additional 90 degrees, MGP rods ask for 65lbs for 3/8 head, 90 lbs for 7/16 head and 105lbs for 1/2 inch
5.3l steel ls. They're some cheap ebay pistons that were already in the engine when I decided to do the rebuild. They're in great condition after I cleaned them up.
@@crescenthammer the schematics for that engine shows 15 lbs and then an additional 75 degrees, personally I’d replace them and get some ARP bolts , without any real information it’s hard to say if they’re torque to yield, if you havejust personally I would replace them incase , they run like 130 bucks
@brianperez7695 the current bolts won't come out of the lower rod. I honestly should just replace rods and pistons, but I'm already over budget. This may come back and bite me in the butt, that's where I'm at tho.
@@crescenthammer just from personal experience , I reused some years ago for my 2.5l turbocharged cosworth engine pushing 650 , and well , I still haven’t gotten around to fixing that engine 🤣
Just look up the ANSI torque specs for that size bolt They got a big ass chart
When I buy firearms stuff the first thing I look for are the stickers or patches. I’ve genuinely been sad because they didn’t include a sticker or patch.
I know, we spend $1000 of dollars on parts etc. Get excited for the $.25 sticker.
Great..!! Keeping posting 👍
Thanks
I hate those the bearing around the part of that on mine is shot and I can’t find them anywhere
Yeah, they still the entire steering column, not the small parts.
@@crescenthammer I know it sucks because you’ll have to buy a whole column just for a small bearing
@@loganarnold00 junk yard I guess
I hate to rain on your parade, but you're not going to get the accuracy you need with a simple set of calipers. Try getting a c-shaped set of micrometers in the size range you need for that. They are very cheap and they will serve you for a lifetime on a lot of other projects~
It was close enough to see if it had been machined or not.
Ahh. Fair enough. I gotcha.
@deltadesigns4269 really I could have just looked at the marking on the old bearings. They all had a big "s" or "Sta" on them.
Keep it up! Earned a sub
