This is primarily a Bass fishing channel on the St Lawrence river and Northeastern section of Lake Ontario. I'll take you to different hot spots around the area for bass like Chaumont Bay, Cape Vincent, Clayton, Chippewa Bay, Henderson Bay, Sackets Harbor and the St. Lawrence River.
St Lawrence River- Sight fishing the Fall Transition in Late September 2024
Late September weather in the North Country is normally quite cold, windy and rainy but this year we've had 80 degree weather for 3wks and no wind. This time of year you could normally throw just about anything. Shakey Head, Senko, Swimbait or Craw on shallow flats will always produce BUT this year factor in heavy fishing pressure, dynamic water temp change and slick conditions and the bass won't bite! So I'm hunting them down sight fishing and flipping a dropshot in the area I find them with no movement (action) at all and waiting for them to find it in this crystal clear water. Being stealthy and patient is the key.

How to fish GALLOO ISLAND on Lake Ontario!
Просмотров 3 тыс.7 месяцев назад
In the North Eastern section of Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence River is the best smallmouth bass fishing in the world! One of the prime areas to fish on Lake Ontario is Galloo Island. Something to keep in mind is Galloo Island isn't the easiest place to get to. A solid 10-20mph wind makes it nearly impossible. The island itself is big enough that you can waste most the day fishing areas that ...

Early in the spring Canada has a catch and release season in zone 20. During that period you can catch some St. Lawrence giants. But the shorelines and bays along the Canadian side of the St. Lawrence are great to fish all year long. You can fish the Canadian side from Chippewa Bay to Cape Vincent. You don't have to run 20 miles in! #stlawrenceriver #canadafishing #bassfishingvideos
St Lawrence River/Lake Ontario Spring fishing baits.

Each season on the St. Lawrence River has a particular bait that's the strongest for that time of year. We have 4 distinct seasons here and they're extreme. Spring and early summer is the time of year that the Jerkbait and Swimbait are the most dominant. Finding the warmest water on the perfect flat is the challenge. #stlawrenceriver #lakeontario #Smallmouthbass

I live about 45min from the famous Salmon River in Pulaski, NY. It gets a little busy down there as you can imagine so I like to find smaller streams close to the Salmon River that still hold nice fish. Mill creek in Sackets Harbor can be one of them. Mill creek doesn't hold a ton of fish all year but it has its' moments! #salmonriver #salmonfishing #flyfishing
How to catch UNMARKED fish on the St Lawrence River! Forward Facing Sonar (I don't have it)

You can still catch fish on the St Lawrence River without Forward Facing Sonar. Because the St lawrence is so big sometimes we don't know where to start. I suggest you start on shoals and if you pick the right shoal you can catch a 25lb bag on 1 shoal. Whether you mark fish or not believe they're there, these shoals are massive and hold fish! #stlawrenceriver #smallmouthbassfishing #ditchfishing

Why are crabs not a factor?
Great video. Thanks! Is the Isthmus launch tricky with a 21-foot bass boat? How shallow can it get? I hear there are some trick boulders to navigate through. Is that true?
i do good on the shoal that runs parallel to the island comes up to around 8ft and at the tip on the main lake side is another one but the other one is about 200yrds long i had great days there on ned rigs and small swimbaits i usally come up in july and aug from new jersey love watching all your videos
Awesome man! I think there’s a lot out there to fish but it can be little tricky getting out there sometimes or getting back. Need to spend time out there but it’s tough and a lot of fishing pressure
Keep up the great work thanks for sharing
Sick video brother great message 🤘🏻
Do you offer a guide service you have the best content in the area
Can you show us how to read the map and what to look for map study nice channel just subbed
I will do that this summer thx!
Where’s the best smallmouth fishing lake out there for big fish of life time and numbers my son wants a guide trip for his birthday we’re new to the area
Statistically Cape Vincent on the st Lawrence has the biggest fish. Check out Ditchfishing.org
was the frog bit serious thing? made me laugh but i think that was serious
Yes it’s serious but it’s specific to the frog/craw that had “bingo” on it. Of course you can use swim baits also but the locals say that works
Is Archer there from my class?
Archer comes out fishing with me a lot and has caught some nice ones. You should come visit with him and come fishing with us!!
Thank you so much for putting out this excellent content. The St, Lawrence River is on my bucket list and videos like yours would give me a ton of confidence before making the 14 hour drive with the boat. Also, I enjoyed your segment at the end as well. Jesus Christ is Lord!
@@sunrise7ranch85 awesome!!
Only about six hours for me here in Vermont. I think that’s a bit less than Oneida, but a guy could spend a week splitting it between Oneida and the St Lawrence. I’ve been to Oneida a couple of times already with a 14’ closed bow and I just love the ‘lost in nowhere’ feeling of big water that still accommodates 14-19’ boats safely most days. I feel like the St Lawrence would provide that ambience as well.

A crab?
of course you can how the hell did people fish pre forward facing sonar lol
Hey, great video…very helpful. We were just visiting from PA this week and wondering if you wouldn’t mind doing a fall version of your video for smallies? We had a rough week finding them with all the dying vegetation and tough to find good rock formations to target them.
@@mtkeane1 copy that, I’ll try. I will say we got a green moss and dying veg on Lake Ontario also and it’s been tough!!
@@ditchfishing9148 the temp on Lake Oneida started the week at 71 and dropped to 66 by end of week. The heavy rains helped Wednesday.
Great Stuff! Heading for my yearly fall Perch trip at Rose Bay, just east of Carlton Is. Hoping to fish the Sackets area too, if this weather holds. Smallies always elude me, but I keep at it.

I really enjoy your videos they are very informative! As a Christian I see the value in your ministry and hope that your outreach is successful. We are currently staying at 3 Mile Bay till Friday but can’t find the fish do you have any suggestions? Thanks for what you do it is appreciated!
@@frankpiacine7223 try to get away from green film or green moss. Try the lakeside of the isthmus and fox island. You could also try Henderson (Stoney creek) area if you’re mobile 👍
Thanks!
Great Video Scott! Been fishing Horse Bass, and Stony since the early 70's with my dad. Fishing that area has changed so much over the years. We use to just drift live bait..worms,minnows ,and softshells for the smallest. BTW, that area you speak of farther up the bay towards Black River..There is a weed wall on North side of the channel that holds lots of LM , Crappie and some monster NP. The river past the islands hold some big cats and the odd Sturgeon as well. It quiets down in the fall when the Salmon run starts.
Nice, thx!
Wondering if they are still in this face since we haven't that real cold night yet
Seems like we’re holding in this pattern. Some people are catching in 25ft but I like fishing shallow 👍
This is NOT near Fox Island and nowhere near Cape Vincent. This is around Chaumont Bay area.
It’s the lakeside of the isthmus and the lakeside of fox island 100% sorry!
Shollow black blobs are the most exciting thing on earth!!!

Launched out of cape Vincent Sunday, got skunked. Fished from 15-70ft of water for 6 hrs drop shot, ned rig, swim bait. I’m a local but these smallies have been tough for me the last few weeks. Guys at the launch said fish shallow and emphasized it.
@@aidanmcconnell5996 it’s been tough! I found green moss in Cape Vincent bays. I’d say try to find clean rock shallow 👍
I was on Chaumont Bay at the end of August and got skunked. Prolly just needed more time on the water. Only got parts of 2 days. Tried a lot of the stuff you recommended. So even though the 1000 island area is the greatest small mouth area in the world it's still no guarantee. Time seems to be the biggest factor. Impatience is the big killer of fishing.
@@donnyconny3523 amen to that!! Chaumont in my opinion gets way over fished. I hit it in the spring and fall but that’s about it. It is an awesome area if you catch it right!👍
What do you see with tournaments that keep largest fish in live wells and transport them long distances to weigh in, what do you see with fish being returned back after weigh in as far as distance they distribute fish back to water?
I don’t know all the ins and outs on tournament fishing but I’ve heard pros say they were surprised any of the fish were still alive at the weight in. Also not sure where they drop them. I’m thinking Massena, wadington and Ogdensburg which doesn’t help us out any!!
Always so informative- great videos I need to get up there soon.
Coming up to fish September 28. Staying in Chaumont. If you had to choose fishing from Chaumont’s ramp or Henderson ramp where would you go? Wx looks like it’s stayed pretty warm? We are hoping for some “horizontal” fishing.
@@timrussell975 right now I’d say Henderson but that could change. I will say Chaumont bay has green moss on everything

What do you mean by big fish. I catch a ton of 5 and 6 pounders in Clayton . Are they even bigger?
@@politicalfisherman540 5 and 6 pounders are big to me. There are 7 and 8s but I’ve never caught one!
@@ditchfishing9148 I agree, just didn't know how big they were in the lake. Erie has the same caliber of fish , just no structure like up there. I love the river.
Well I think our trip fell right into that window. We went from Wednesday - Saturday(9/11-9/14) and absolutely killed it. 40+ fish per day with most over 4lb. It was absolutely insane and I can’t wait to be back there again. We got fish everywhere from 40ft deep all the way up in 3-5ft of water.
@@BassAngler awesome man!
This was my first year fishing pillar point, horse island, and black river bay. I really struggled to catch anything of note. I couldn’t catch any fish in the deeper summer waters. Might join you next year for a charter🙂

I know Oneida can change quickly but are bass boats really that lousy on rough water? (I"m a deep-v guy which is why I ask). The video ended talking about how rough it was getting & I didn't even see a whitecap...not too choppy in my world
@@finmanpoozie4756 yes it was “beginning” to get rough! My boat is 19’ and yes it’s a rough ride with a good chop
@@ditchfishing9148 That makes total sense... Good video dude!! I enjoyed it. I think "Oneida" & think "walleye" most days
Is season not closed that early .?
Yes, and it is illegal to target bass in the river until the season opener. I have a fishing cottage outside Clayton and fish 3-4 days a week May through September and see people doing it every time I'm out in the spring. Slobs pulling bass off beds.
