Fabled City
Добавлен 20 янв 2023
I named my channel Fabled City because it reflects my fascination for travel to the peripheries of our world. Looking for the mythical ruins just over the horizon. When I was young I learned photography in order to document the ancient sites that live among us. Buddhism in Pakistan. Hellenism in Afghanistan. Rome in Libya.

The rock/sandstone formations are just incredible. I have seen a lot of rock formations, but nothing like that - thanks for posting, and again for putting the over tourism into context
I’m so glad you appreciated them. I think they are largely comprised of volcanic tufa that has weathered over the millennia. It’s an amazing place to explore filled with wonder and far from the crowds.
Is that beach literally along side the runways at the airport? I was trying to find it on a map. Anyway, cool video!
Yes it’s super adjacent to the airport. Maybe part of the reason it was never developed for tourism. What’s so great about it is it mostly just island residents who go there after work or on days off. Part of what I love about it. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for posting - I would like to see the sun set on Santorini but we (my wife and I) are in our slow go years now, sooooo. Anyway 2 things, 1) great vlog, and 2) thanks for giving the "over tourism" some context i.e. off the tourist path it is not so crowded. Looking forward to your next vlog. Cheers.
So glad you appreciated it Phil. I was trying to do this one a little outside the box and make it a tad news-y as the island had been in the headlines all summer. Hopefully I can upload the next installment sooner.
Watching the sun set from Santorini is on my bucket list! Enjoyed the video!
You need to do it. Thank you so much for watching!
That is awsome, most pf people dont know about existing of other places is Santorini exept of Oia and Thira
Yes! So glad you agree. Pyrgos is one of my most favourite places on the island because it is not only beautiful but has not been hit by over tourism. Thank you for watching.
It is challenging getting a YT channel off the ground, but your content is good. It just takes time! And I will not hold it against you being a Phillies fan. Go Dodgers! :)
It’s a lot of hard work but I don’t have any over arching goal other than the process of doing it so whether it succeeds or fails is secondary. Really appreciate your comment! But #ringthebell 🔔 haha
Cool!
Thank you!
Nice juggle!

Is there a faster way to get to Lviv?
You could try the Flix Bus app and see what their drive times are but even those would still be subject to a decently long border and customs process I would imagine. Another possibility is if there is some kind of cross border informal ride share I’m as yet unaware of?
@@FabledCity There are alternative ways - If you get the Flixbus to Lviv the biggest hurdle you will find, is that you will find yourself at the back of a queue as buses do not get priority and the waiting time can be somewhat lengthy. But if you travel to Medyka this is the quickest way from previous visits; 1) Take the train to Przemsyl or if there are no trains going in that direction head towards Rzeszow where a local service runs regular services directly to Medyka, the railway station is around 10 minutes on foot to the border crossing. But this can be a dragged out journey as the local service stops are you'll guess at every stop. Alternatively take the train to Przemsyl and from there go to the bus station located on the otherside of the station, from there take the shuttle bus to Medyka - they run every 30 minutes and it costs 6 zloty (£1) it takes 15 minutes to the border and it stops right at the bottom of the footpath leading up the border crossing. Once you've been through customs, on foot on my three visits it took less than a minute - Polish, in and out then you go through the Ukrainan side which is similar. As you leave the outpost there is a bus stop down the street which runs regular services to Lviv, roughly an hour journey. It stops at the bus station which is right next to the railway station. Alternatively, taxis are everywhere and you can haggle for the rate - some throw out stupid prices, but you can definitely do the journey for around 800UAH ($16) for a 45 minute journey, it's cheap but be aware that the roads are very bumpy, uneven and potholes are deep so enjoy the bumps.
@@DanielM-jf2hi Thanks for the incredibly detailed reply! That's super useful info. I tried to take a FlixBus back to Krakow (which I believe was surge pricing at $110 USD) after the Russians finally retaliated following the Kursk invasion. My Bolt taxi got stuck in traffic and I missed the bus and lost the money (even after calling their customer service in the Philippines and begging for a refund). All the trains were sold out going to Przemsyl once Iranian drones were detected over Lviv oblast but I managed to get a 3am train when someone cancelled.
And the last A’s game in Oakland today.
excellent commentary
Thank you so much!

@@dabom904 Oh thanks!!
Very interesting trip. I appreciate you documenting it, Derek.
I’m so glad you think so David. Really appreciate that.
Well done mate - ah the joys of travel 🙂- thanks for posting. The part about the Ukranian lady, now being a refugee was so sad.
Thank you so much for watching. Means a lot.
Santorini is definitely on my bucket list! Enjoy your stay there!
Oh wow - most interesting mate - thanks for posting
Thanks so much for watching.
Did you feel unsafe in Lviv? It’s probably not a good idea to visit as a tourist until after the war, right?
It’s hard to answer as the great was hard to gauge. Russian troops are nowhere near it but their long range weapons can reach the city as happened to the family who were killed after I left. There’s a video somewhere on twitter of two guys walking toward the railway station in the dark exactly as I did when that missile hit that’s terrifying to watch. Blythe city is mostly considered safe but the Ukrainian invasion of Kursk upset that status quo and Putin wanted to send a message that nowhere in the country was safe.
Welcome back!
Thanks David !
Booked my flights to Poland next week!
Yes!! You’ll have great time.
Mira de techo😮
I REALLY, REALLY enjoyed your previous "crossing boards" vlogs - so no pressure on this one mate. 😁
Literally just filmed that last bit of the Poland>Ukraine so that’ll be up next.
Most interesting - I enjoyed that - thanks for posting
Thanks Phil, really appreciate that.
Good to see you back mate I enjoyed that. Cheers
Thank you so much Phil. I’ve just got to Berlin so about to restart some fresh travel content.
Rollin' with Fabled City!
Its such a shame how there can be buses from Saudi to UAE/Oman/Jordan/Yemen but not Kuwait or Qatar. I do understand the political situation between KSA and Qatar. But Saudi and Kuwait are brothers so there should be at least a bus between Kuwait and Dammam.
I totally agree. I think (but am not sure) it may have to do with the history of the so-called neutral zone that exists on either side of the colonial era demarcated border. Or it may be some kind of 1991 gulf war legacy policy from when Iraq breached the Saudi side of the neutral zone and KSA was weary about being more connected to Kuwait. Whatever the reason, one is only meant to cross this border by private car.
Wow, serious juggling talent, Derek!
Thank you so much David! I really appreciate that.
Damn your balls are so hypnotizing❤
Круто!
Great Video! What did you pay for the hotel in Baghdad?
Thank you! My room was 35,000 dinars /night but they had cheaper ones apparently if you got one without a balcony. I think those were 30,000.
Very cool! I like these night views.
Take me back to my rave days 😂
Hahaha
I missed it, how did the bonnet get on top of the column and where is the original piece? I live in the area too and I agree, the arrangement and fencing is ridiculous, nobody sees this marvel passing by, literally no one.
The only reason I discovered it was I made videos about Roman ruins across the Middle East and when I came home I went on Google to see if there were any pieces of Rome here in NYC and was sort of shocked to learn about this column I had never noticed. It’s poorly placed and I think just simply not well known about.
A Google juggle in the wind! Well done!
You’re learning some very cool juggling moves!
Wow
The reason the smaller blocks were under the bigger ones can possibly be explained if you shake a jar of gravel and watch how the different size rocks arrange themselves. The bigger ones always rise to the top. They were building for eternity and all the shaking of the terrain that was involved.
Interesting , I’d never heard that concept before!
Excellent!!
How amazing! I never heard of it either. Love the Stanford White connection..
It’s simply glorious !
Red, white, and blue!
My guess is the Bloomberg HQ lit up early for Memorial Day.
Good stuff
Thanks!

Thank you!
I was wondering what those objects were that you were juggling until I saw the close up! 😁
Whoa! The juggle of the arm was amazing!!
