At Haven Acres we desire freedom. Freedom to farm in a way that we believe is the healthiest for our Field, Farm, Food, and Forest. And, freedom to live a simple life and work to build a farm for our future generations. Come along as we share our day-to-day lives, allowing our children and grandchildren to help develop a potential for their future.
Watch as we rotationally graze our animals and allow them to create soil that has a healthy ecosystem. See the farm life in action. Spend some time in the farm kitchen scratch baking and maybe enjoy a new recipe. And cheer us on as we have many exciting additions coming to the farm this year that will help us transform this 1845 New England homestead into a thriving, small family farm.

Do you have videos and not just shorts?🇨🇦🙋♀️
We have both.
Beautiful job! I have so many questions! 1. Which tomato variety did you grow for sauce? 2. How many plants gave you 20 quart jars? 3. Did you water bath can or pressure can? 4. How did you keep your sauce from burning on the wood stove? My own experience…I always use the whole tomatoes and I blend it up in a VitaMix instead of our food mill simply because it keeps the nutrients from the skin and seeds in the sauce. I also just cook longer and never remove water as you did. It gives it a deeper flavor. I almost CRIED when I saw you pouring that tomato water down the drain! 😂😂😂
Great questions! I grew San Marzano and Amish Paste. They are my go-to's. If you look back at some of our videos from the summer, you will see how amazing they did in the hoop house. How many plants? Hmmm... I am guessing 10 to 15. I water bathed, as tomatoes are acidic and pressure canning is not necessary. I used our wood-cook stove, which is designed to cook. I stirred every time I walked by or added wood. Easy peasy. And the tomato water? I get it. Cry for me. 😅 I could have saved it to start a veg stock or just used it in other cooking. But as current life would have it, I have to let perfection go for sanity sake. And, if you look back in videos from last year, you will see me blending the skins, seeds, and all! I love trying all the different ways. It helps build diversity it the kitchen. Thank you for all of your awesome questions!
@ Thank you SO MUCH for your in-depth answers! Have you ever tried Hungarian Heart tomatoes for your canning purposes?
@@amyb3450 I have not ever heard of that variety. I will have to look it up. Thanks for the tip!
Food mill!!! ❤❤❤
Good greif! Why was that so hard for me to come up with? Thank you!
A few thoughts from me...I really need to come up to the farm soon and do some sledding with the kids! Cinnamon is beautiful, her facial markings are so cool, and I'm glad she'll be able to be bred with your bulls. Farmers are not mean, they just try to do the best for their situation. Big Mac is derpy. Those quackers are some beautiful fowl.
I would say your thoughts are pretty spot on! ❄️ 🛷
Extra fancy 😂 hey that’s a good haul. 👍🏼
You got that right!
No we are just people
💯!
Watching from central Maine during the first big snow.
Oh yes! We had our first big snow last night too! Power has been out for about 14 hours so far. Thank you for watching!
Watery gravy. Should be thicker and darker brown.
Color depends on how you cook your turkey and the ingredients used in doing so. I make different consistency gravy depending on my mood. I hope you found a recipe that makes you happy. There are a lot of different recipes out there.
Hello from another Oxford County resident! A little bit away, but glad I found you.
Small world! Thanks for watching.
Clothes will stink of fried onions and garlic
Or....you can dry your clothes overnight when you are not cooking.
That was an effective way to save on a walk in freezer. Jankie is away of safely getting it done and it works for years. It has been a decent fall to get outside work done. Your getting closer to finishing your butchering shop. Have a nice Thanksgiving eating all your own food. The deer recovery video was fun seeing the excitement of everyone. If you make a special family desert a video might get more views around this time of year.
Thank you for watching. And for cheering us on. You are right...it has been a great fall for getting things done outside. Good tip with the dessert! I will have to think of something fun. We are pretty basic pie people. Ha ha ha .
@@havenacresmaine The best has always been basic. Keeping it simple, full of good ingredients what else is needed.
I have a question though. Can you use the wood of a cedar to make an essential oil. Also, I bought some natural essential Virginia cedar oil from a natural plant store. So i trust it. Well, I have a skin issue called Lupus & it’s an inflammatory rash i get on my face & arms. Should i put the oil on my skin or should i ingest it? Plz let me know what you think. Thank you.
I would speak with your doctor in regards to using cedar oil. Hopefully they can give you some good guidance. I believe that the oil is in the green leaves only, not the wood. However, I am far from an expert at anything. I just enjoy sharing my experiences as I try new things myself. Thank you so much for watching and asking some great questions. I wish I had actual answers for you. Take care!
@ Thank you! I enjoy watching your & your husband & kids videos abt farm life! 👍
That was a really good video thank u! Oh & I am terrible abt running the water out until my son yells “mom it smells like something is burning!”. Then i remember “shoot, I forgot more water!” 😂🤣💙
I am glad that I am not the only one these things happen to!
Just found your channel. Love your kitchen.looks so warm and inviting. We farm and shop in the same way here. Loving the information. Keep the videos coming.love and prayers from Jacksonville Florida.
Thank you so much for commenting and watching! It is a great way to live isnt it?!
Inside out! I went to church like that wearing a white frilly blouse!😂
Glad I am not the only one! But on a good note: you probably got some extra prayer on that day. 😅
Is your shirt inside out? Pretty colour too!😊
😆 Yes! It sure was. Class act all they way here.
Congrats on your deer! I actually like Moxie!
Thanks for watching, and it's great to hear you like Moxie too!
🙂
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing this special event, quite the sharp shooter.First time I had Moxie I thought the same thing.
It is an aquired taste for sure!
We just bought a house in Maine and we are going to try this. Thanks for making such an informative video!
Welcome to Maine! I hope our video helps in some way. We all learn from each other!
They never told me how sad I’d be after the mean old goose passed away (freak accident). We process all of our own meat so death isn’t new or unexpected, but I sure do miss that ornery bird and my heart breaks hearing her mate call for at all hours of the day. We are getting some new girls for him today. Hoping that will fill the void and bring him some company.
Awe...That is sad. I totally get what you are saying. I am glad that you are getting some new girls today. New life is always exciting. Thanks for sharing what they never told you.
Great presentation
Thanks! I hope it's helpful.
This was one of your best videos. Well thought out and excellent videos at each ,they never told you. You have a nice voice that tells a story. It takes time to build a channel but you have what it takes. I like that you have Maine in your tittles. Folks that follow could add a comment and a thumbs up. Just an easy way to thank you for all the time and energy you put into the videos. Supper looked good!!!
Thank you so much for your kind words! They are very encouraging. And if everyone that watched left a comment...that would be amazing!
Beautiful area and wonderful life style
Thank you!
Your channel just popped up in my feed. You arent far from me. Ive been teaching myself to garden and grow and can our own food. Its been challenging in the garden for me this year. Ill get it figured out. I did raise my own meat birds. Oh, Im about half hour from you in Turner. Can you belive this amazing weather we are having!! I LOVE the scene of the cows running up into the field!! I want a Jersey milk cow so bad. I just ordered half a meat cow from a farm near me and I asked for all the lard so I can make Tallow.
Very cool! Nice to meet a neighbor through youtube. Who would have thought?! And yes, you will get gardening. Every year, you learn something new! Best wishes on your homestead. Feel free to reach out anytime. We love talking farming. And yeeeesssss on the weather!
Thank you beautiful for this vide!!
Thank you! I hope that you find it helpful.
I fell into your channel today while looking for bee candy boards. I take my hat off to you and yours. Good job. Thank you for sharing your life with me and others. Perfect example of an American.
Thank you for your kind words. I hope that you were able to find a candy board video or two that were helpful. Researching "bee stuff" can be confusing. There are so many different ways of doing things. I hope that you subscribe or check back again some day. Thanks again!
Absolutely Love your tree its really pretty
Thank you. 🎄
Who ever invented toilet paper was probably sick of washing towels etc. I never panic when I'm out because I would rather do the old fashioned thing. And it's much cleaner than toilet paper. And I'm not talking about wet wipes either. I'm sure the older folks know what I'm talking about 😂❤
😅 I am sure they do!
Can you do this with dried cedar leaves also?
I dont know for sure. I am fortunate to have fresh cedar, and it was my first time making the oil. I suspect it is worth try. Let me know how you make out if you try it.
First time I’ve seen the knuckle method….
Thanks for watching!
The butcher shop is coming along great!
It is!
Thank you so much for sharing.I been doing my wrong way .😂😊 Father God OUR Creator and He Only Begotten Son Jesus Christ Our Lord And Savior and the Holy Spirit Bless and Keep you and Yours always Amen 🙏❤️
I am sure that there are many ways to make pie crust successfully. This one happens to work well for me. I hope it does for you as well.
Yum yum 😋
It is great.
Hi I subbed you #713! You have a beautiful spot. We hope to get back to Western Maine next year. Sorry about you plastic blowing off😢
Thank you for subscribing! We really appreciate it. And also thank you for your kind words. I hope that you are able to visit Western Maine in the future. Every part of Maine has its own beauty.
Where's the vid?
Sadly, it has disappeared. I went to get the link to it so that you could watch, and it is no longer there. Very strange.
What is it?
This is a candy board for the bee hives. It gives them something to eat in the winter, should they run out of honey. Thanks for asking!
The boss is a BIG fella! And those piglets are so cute. :)🐖
Boss is a big fella. And so far, he is a great boss. Hopefully, we will have some of his offspring here in 2025! Piglets are the cutest they will ever be right now. Ha ha ha 😂
Great & nice information 💧💦👍
Thank you.
I hav cedar wood 4 fire pit, i Luv the smell frm the red center,, how can i get Tht smell n2 an oil,??? Iv thought il hav 2 set & split the red section out & try wth tht,,,,, ???
I have no idea how you would get an intense cedar smell into an oil. I bet someone out there in youtube land has the answer for you, though. Feel free to report back here when you find a way. We all learn from each other.
Those calves were big boys. I see they were handled with respect for their size. You are very busy. Nice your kids want to help out. Have a great summer.
Thank you. And, thank you for noticing how we treat our animals. Itis a full life, and we are so thankful to be living the way we do. You enjoy your summer also!
I love my cedars! Im excited to try this!! For inflammation!! 🤗☺️
Wonderful! Do your research. I hope you find a way to make it useful for you.
Very nice and useful information and happy to know egg for pig
Glad you enjoyed it.
Hi, how long do you put on stove every day for a week, and is it low/simmer? Also how do you make cedarwood oil from the wood? Thank you.
I dont know how to make cedarwood oil. This was o ly my first try with the cedar leaves. I had the leaves and oil on very low on my wood cook stove for 3 days if memory serves. I suspect you could use a crockpot on low for a few days as well.
Hi Madam, I have followed you making cidar oil until putting it in a container but you haven't taught how to use whether we're going to apply on the skin to take oral by mouth and the quantity how many times a day or a week and for how long. Kindly advise me.
As I mentioned in the video, I am just learning myself. I have used it to rub on a sore shoulder. However, I would suggest consulting books or on line sources that you trust, or find someone local to you that could guide you with homemade herbal remedies. Thanks for learning all I ng with me.
Your farm is Beautiful. Thank God For Grass feed cows & free range chickens❤
Yes! 100%
I would use MonkFruit or Stevia. I've been searching for some good grape juice😊
Great idea!
How I would love to taste this homemade grape juice!❤ I've never even seen a pan like that, Your using😂
I never had either. I borrowed from a friend. It is a juice steamer. It worked so well.
@@havenacresmaine Thank you
You are using a liquid measuring cup.
I am. I prefer to not dirty many dishes. A 1 cup measure is the same, no matter what 1 cup measure you use. But thank you for pointing that out, as some don't realize there is a technical difference. I am just not that technical with life. 😀
I have some Jack in the Pulpit seeds and I was told to seed them over the winter by fall plNting in pot. I’m looking for how to..
Interesting. I only know Jack in the Pulpit as a wild plant. I didn't know that you could get seeds. Best wishes with that.
