Arranging successful play dates for your autistic child: next steps
Просмотров 1422 года назад
This is the second video about playdates, but this video focuses on developing flexible thinking and helping autistic children manage uncertainty. Uncertainty often triggers high levels of anxiety for autistic children, and this video gives ideas to help sit with the unknown in a very structured, supported way for a short time as a first step to managing uncertainty. It is edited by my daughter...

Ideas for how to play with autistic children who don’t play with toys
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.3 года назад
It is natural for parents to want to play with their children, we remember our parents/carers playing with us and we want to do this with our little ones. However, different children want to play with different things, and not all of these are toys, e.g. some children are interested in spinning objects, hitting radiators, pressing switches on plugs. When this happens, it can be really difficult...

In this video I address those points, and hope it will be useful. We are a family that celebrates and loves neuro-difference!

Ideas to Help Parents Talk About School with a Child with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Help with how to talk to children with autism spectrum disorder when they have come back from school, without putting pressure on them. Ideas include using the Zones of Regulation to identify and talk about feelings, and playing games to ask questions without overwhelming a child with autism, and hopefully helping everyone share more in a fun and relaxed way.

My daughter and I have just watched your whole episode and thought it was very helpful. Thank you! She said she is in the blue/green zone after that. And was earlier in the yellow. 😊

This is so fabulous. Thank you. My 3 and a half year old grandson loves TV. Only 3 programs. Hey Duggee, Bluey and Elmo. Any ideas what we coukd do with this, apart from sitting with him, laughing at the same stuff and changing the show when he gets fed up. I draw the line a bit when it comes to racing up and down the passage like he does 😅😂.

Great advice. I find your videos very helpful; thank you so much for that. I like the idea that parents should step back and let the storm pass, but how do you make the child understand and realize that they can’t get away with misbehavior during a “red-zone”? Moreover, these episodes usually happen during an argument with the parents about something, and the child won’t stop till they get what they want. So, even if the parent steps back, the child will not let go, and will keep fighting with the parents. I would appreciate if you can tell us what the parents should do in that situation? Should they stand firm behind their position? Or should they cave in and give the child what they want? Do they ignore the misbehavior of the child which often times involve being disrespectful to the parents? Thanks a million.
