      @@BrainsWorld23 thanks. i have subscribed and something that would of helped is a ghia engine drop. i've now done it twice. i've created training material in my career and the hard part is remembering its all new to the audience. For example, my garage floor is brick (120 yrs old). very uneven. made the first removal hell. also PO used extra long studs. not a single video mentions importance of a flat floor or that studs might be longer. not criticizing you, but pointing out how to be effective for your audience

    To be honest I would just use a polishing wheel after sanding off the oxidized plastic and scratches. I've been doing it that way for many years, and then the lights just need a light re-polish periodically like the surrounding paint.

    Why sand and clean dirty parts next to the stuff you're clear coating? You can see the dust and particles in the clear coat! Why even clear coat instead of polishing those parts?

      just polishing isnt enough. they will fade again. Clear is the best way to restore headlights/tail lights. i prefer to use a 2k clear with a hardener.

    If you get a chance, you should make a mold of those so that you can use a two part mix to actually make new ones. it's great if you can bring back old light covers like that, but sooner or later they'll get damaged and having the silicone molds from the originals is a great thing to have. I have some that the UV has already ruined, but I use krazy glue to glue then back and then I'm going to make molds and recast new ones. You gotta be creative when keeping older cars going.

    Why not buff the taillights instead of clearing them?

    • @BrainsWorld23
      @BrainsWorld23 2 месяца назад

      When taillights and headlights become oxidized, addressing the issue correctly is key to restoring their clarity and ensuring long-lasting results. While buffing can reduce surface scratches, it also wears down the protective coating, which can lead to the lights dulling again over time. A better solution is to completely remove the old coating, eliminate all scratches, and apply a fresh clear coat. This approach not only brings the lights back to a like-new, factory-fresh appearance but also offers greater durability. Depending on the number of layers and the quality of the clear coat, the results can last about a year. However, by opting for a professional-grade clear coat with a hardener, you can expect the finish to last two years or more. I hope you find this information helpful! 🙂

    Hey Brain, keep the vids coming. Its great to see a normal guy doing this and not some trust funder that has never worked on cars but goes out and buys every tool imaginable, un like the rest of us , and spends gobs on his restoration. You are keeping it real. I'm trying to do a 68 coupe in a condo complex with no garage and strict HOA rules, lol. Impossible, so I have had to farm out the body work. Loving the videos! Seeing you fix up this classic is an inspiration as I will be doing the same with a '69 Ghia in the eventual future. You should give Liquid Wrench penetrant a try. @ProjectFarm did some good videos testing various penetrants and its hard to beat for performance and price (although I think his videos may have caused the price to go up 😂).
