so.... I already quit playing after realizing it's perpetually a single player game. D1 arguably had a better mulitplayer experience, which is sad. I hwar wow classic hd is bumpin right now. Might boot it up to play with actual people. Poe2 could have been something special.

I have put almost 300 hours into this game, most of that time was within the first few weeks of release. I was playing so much for the first time in a long time I had to sit and rethink my life and how much time I was spending playing video games. Anyways, I played 1 class all the way to 90 before making another class. The class was warrior. At first I wanted to create some sort of frost using, shield wielding knight, kind of like a death knight from warcraft. This build quickly became crap because of all of the intellect I needed to upgrade my spell gems, which was taking away from my ability to upgrade my gear that required strength. So I switched to try and be an unkillable heavy armored shield warrior. Well, that build became an issue because I was doing so little damage, that boss fights would take sometimes 45 minutes or longer. No joke, Jamanra in Act2 took almost an hour for me to beat, and that isn't including the amount of time spent on failed attempts. And, unknowingly to me, I didn't realize that most boss special hits cannot be blocked and make armor almost useless. So I was sacrificing tons of DPS for survivability for no reason. In Act 3 I changed things up a bit after I realized I couldn't kill the boss that has lava and you have to kill him before the lava hits you. Things after this started to get a little bit better and my build started to take off. Then I got to maps, and tried my 3rd set of ascendancy. This is where it stopped being fun and challenging and made me just want to quit. It didn't matter how tanky I was, or how much dps I did. It seemed like just the simple fact that I use armor and am a melee class, maps and trials were next to impossible. I made it all the way to level 88 before I was able to finally get my 3rd set of points, and this was only after the patched to make honour better for melee. It was disappointing that even though I was over 20 levels higher than the trial maps, I still was struggling. The game started off as difficult but fun. I didn't mind that the bosses were taking me over 30 minutes. But what made me somewhat angry was that other classes such as mage and ranger, were blowing through the game. It was obvious to me just how bad 1 class was compared to the others. Now I know there are certain builds that are good and certain ones that are bad. But I could literally choose any passive abilities I wanted to and as long as I was using a bow, the game was easy mode. That's been my biggest gripe of the game.

Honestly, been looking at Tarkov for a long time, wanting to get it but never really had a full understanding of what I was getting into, so this review really helped. And when it comes to the raging about pixels, I would always suggest just keeping the thought in mind that, if you aren't ready to lose then don't queue up for a game, and if you have that mindset then get ready to stop being so close to the loot you have. (Went on a side tangent there, but yeah, amazing review and will definitely look into getting Tarkov when I got the cash for it)

I agree with this review but a few things I think is best to me mentioned and the biggest is valves game releases, though one of the maining factors is the man power valve has they tend to keep a lower team size and is more focused on steam itself, after all its the main driving platform for all of PC gaming, steam after all has alot of power on the PC platform. the second is well again the team size its not exaclty known on the size of the team of valve but if we consider past records it would be around roughly 300 to 500 people in mass. as for the character bans and hard locks its an Aplha/beta form the best way to find issues is to remove any restrictions the only ones the game has is there isn't two of the same characters but that may be just the match making itself. Regardless its a fun game sure as issues but atm, its not exactly meant for a die hard comp type of gameplay even at a casual form in a way, its meant to be for finding issues and patching them out for the 1.0 release aka the official release to the public

people dont like tarkov because its an extraction shooter, they like it because the amount of care and detail put into it, tarkov is years above what should be even possible for a major dev team to actually make, even at its current state which is honestly horrible and needs to be fixed if tarkov stands the test of time it wont be an extraction shooter

Tarkov just scratches some kinda itch in my brain that as much as i want to stop playing, to move on to something bigger and better, i can't. Hunt Showdown is fun but I'm never stressed in the way i am in Tarkov, ill just buy a new kit and go out an do it again. But Tarkov has some sort of spark that makes my adrenaline surge and my dopamine spike.

The thing that makes Tarkov so popular isn't really sunk cost fallacy, you wouldn't have played so many hours to sink so much cost in the first place if the gameplay loop wasn't so addictive. Its not just a looter shooter, its a trading and gambling sim as well. there is so much depth to the game and the systems are so finely tuned that nothing else on the market, even in other genres can compare to it. the flea being a living breathing entity, the choice between farming as a scav or high risk PMC raids and the overall brutality of the game make is so addictive that it has people logging in just to do barters, flip crafted items or check the Cultist circle and Scav box for their gambling results. You can spend 4 hours just doing inventory management and trading on the flea and not notice it at all. Then there is running into a raid with gear on to do impossible missions and the highs that come from succeeding and lows that come from failure. It all feels so high stakes and the risk reward is unmatched by anything else. Games like Grey Zone aren't even on the same playing field.

as a cycle player it was genuinely the best to come out of the genre

NGL, PVE tarkov is so fun.

It’s so unbalanced with teams. Has no problem putting everyone high ranked on one team. Most matches are just stomp fests not to mention the maps are confusing and needlessly cluttered. After 4 hours I was done. When call of duty is more balanced you’re in for some trouble.

Sunken costs fallacy is applicable to many games (like world of tanks) where you have some meta progression, but probably not to tarkov. Once you survived this learning curve and it didnt brake you, you can play any other without problems, i would call it universal skill - which will not disappear so easily. So why would players return to tarkov? They like the challenge, the worst kind of unfair and painful challenge which will this game gladly provide (combined with high quality and details + everalasting problems...). And once the need for some real accomplishments arise again while playing dumbed-down clones, player will return - rusty and with diminished skill, yet that will only add to that challenge. And thats why he came back to suffer in tarkov once again. Cycle cannot be broken

The only thing i have to say is that grey zone is as dead as tarkov was when it first launched, only less so since they actually sold well. Everyone is just holding out for content and polish, but i believe that game will be the only one that gives tarkov a run for its money. The devs seem just as invested in details, but they've only been making the game for less than 3 years

I know this video is about extraction shooters but Tarkov will be the best "Gun Sim" until another game can license almost every single gun and gun part like Tarkov, I know Grey Zone is pretty similar but Tarkov is still the best. That alone keeps the playerbase somewhat alive, although most are probably SPT or PVE enjoyers

Ya I'm not holding my breath for any good extraction games. Doesn't matter if you want to admit it or not we all love Tarkov because the cock and ball torture that it is yet no matter how much Nikita stomps on your dick with high heels you can always crawl your way back and get good money and gear. Tarkov has the perfect balance of how hard a game should be but also how accessible.

I'll tell you this. This event nearly killed me in tarkov and I'm play pve. Pvp is dead on tarkov and pve can go only so much.

What made me stop playing Marauders after 100 hours or so isn't even the lack of content or jankiness. It's the art direction and general ambiance. Everything sounds and looks so empty, depressing, which can be great in it's own way but not when it concerns most of the content of the game. I know space can be boring but with a "volcano" planet/map or anything a bit more "alive", it would be dope !

To be honest GZW pulled me away from tarkov, just seeing the BSG launcher fills me with dread thinking of what could have been. Especially with the new GZW patch on the horizon (which they add more stuff in one patch then tarkov has done in 2 years) i don't see any reason to play tarky anymore

Nothing to do with the video, but I feel like Tarkov needs a better suppression mechanic. There's no way a dude should be able to one-tap quick peek me while his cover is getting hit by RPD fire.

It still boggles my mind how badly the cycle frontier devs fumbled the bag. I played the game alot and it was the perfect extraction shooter for anyone without the autism brain for useless information which is required to play Eft at a high enough level. They had something real good going but they just kept hitting duds after duds with their updates and could never stop the scourge of cheaters.

Tarkov is also struggling. Their watch base decreased significantly on twitch this year

There are a few things games can work on like gameplay, graphics, functionality, realism, etc… Video games can only have so much and must prioritise certain aspects The reason tarkov works is because they sacrifice everything for gameplay Since no one else ONLY prioritises gameplay tarkov offers variety compared to other bland games

Hunt Showdown has developers that are listening. Im not sure if you even played the game for more than a round. Crytek isnt really listening to the community. Bugs that are since closed alpha in game and never touched even if they know about them. Servers/ Netcode that is absolut trash. Or how to get killed around corners... All they care about is the next DLC Skin. Or why is every 3 weeks another out? At the moment there are only 2 maps playable, because of the so called engine upgrade... Total the game has 4 maps and 4 bosses, im not gonna call the Lacoste handbag a boss nor the Super Immolator. Remember the game came out in 2018!!! Its a shame that the developer is only pumping out Skins after Skin and no real content.

Still waiting for valve to get into this genre.

In my opinion, tarkov is the best money i ever spent on a game. It took me on an emotional roller coaster in-game and in real life BSG muckery. The thing that kept me in the loop after 2000hrs is that I'm still learning things, amazing how much depth the game has and the knowledge barrier is probably more challenging than dark souls. People keep coming back cause every little thing they learn actually makes a difference in gameplay... on the bad side, if someone's not a good learner, they'll probably be stuck in this game forever...

I got a gaming PC JUST for Tarkov. I bought the EOD edition and played a fair amount. I then switched to Marauders full time and loved the game and community. After the Unheard drama I'll never go back to Tarkov. Ive played all these extraction shooters. ABI is by far my favorite and has the best chance to take down Tarkov. But Tarkov went unanswered for so long and has years of updates and reworks over Marauders, ABI, and GZW. I realistically dont think any will stand to EFT.
