    Thanks for showing a lot of the sequencer elements. I feel like a lot of the mechanics of the sequencer are invisible due to lack of menus and such, so seeing someone just ignore finger drumming and go full in math nerd on the number keys is good because it shows folks how to fix their mistakes, something that's not obvious just by looking at the interface. The only thing I haven't figured out and can't find demos for is changing note lengths. You used one shots for everything, but I tend to use KEYS mode a lot for melodies and bass and one thing that's important is making sure your notes don't overlap a single bit so you can maximize the polyphony, but I play sloppy and notes overlap....and if i play conservitively, there's a gap between notes...neither is acceptable...so if you find it in your heart to show this technique, if it even exists, that'd be swell.

    • @windowbed
      @windowbed 7 дней назад

      Thanks! Changing note lengths on the KO II is kinda weird: you can, but it affects EVERY note on the step and the maximum duration you can select is one bar. Here's how you do it: 1. Turn off Quantize and enter MAIN mode 2. Go to the step/tic with the notes you want to edit 3. Hold shift and adjust the Y knob. The X knob adjusts velocity--again, for all notes on that step/tic. Note: i just edited this because I realized my issues when testing were due to Quantize being enabled.

      @@dedicato8964 I'm glad to hear the firmware is working! It also sounds like your hardware might be fine unless I'm misunderstanding you. There are two types of TRS (3.5mm) MIDI, A and B. Most devices only support one or the other, but Metaconformer works with both, using the switch to determine whether that input is Type A or B. • @windowbed
      @windowbed 15 дней назад

      I'm also pretty surprised by that. In my case it's because I use my OP-Z to control almost everything so it just made sense. I also have it mapped to a Keylab but I'm still trying to figure out the best camera angle for that. In general OP-Z might be popular for it because SimplexFM works best with a controller that can send 16 (well, 17 ideally) CC values to 4 different channels. I'm sure lots of controllers can do that, but the Keylab and OP-Z are the only ones I own that have that capability.

    Ei I think i have a problem with my unit. I've done the firmware upgrade on a macbook renaming the .bin file to blink.bin as it's said in the manual, everything seems to work fine except that I have to switch the first midi-in to the B gate (gate A is not working) and the "one-hot scale" of the amp envelope mod destination is not displaying/working as a "one-hot scale" but as a "bidirectional scale" (like the one for MIDDLE for example), so i can't select the destination i want for the envelope modulation. I tried uploading the the metacom. firmware and then the simplexFM again but the bug is still there. Do you have any idea on what could be the problem or I just have to return my unit... Thanks a lot

    • @windowbed

      I think it may be an issue with the firmware version on the website, not your device. I don't think you can do exactly what you're describing, but you can definitely do something similar. You wouldn't be able to record the OP-1's synth into the EP-133 while it plays, but you could very easily record the EP-133 into the OP-1, or you could sync the two and record the synth loop to the OP-1's tape. I am thinking of buying the EP-133 KO II... can you enter chords in step sequencer mode (not live playing them)?

    • @windowbed
      @windowbed 23 дня назад

      Yes, you can add notes to a step in step sequencer mode. You can also edit and nudge them pretty precisely but there are some limitations--for example, you can record a note that you hold for 2 bars on a step, but if you use the KO II's duration parameter you can only manually set a note to last for 1 bar.

    • @EdoardoMarcora
      @EdoardoMarcora 23 дня назад

      @@windowbed You mean you can hold multiple notes in a chord in step sequencer mode and extend them up to the length of the pattern by pressing the direction keys? I understand that the note length parameter has limited range, but if chords can be hold for longer, than that is what I am looking for (in order to create chord progression with sustained pad sounds)

    • @windowbed
      @windowbed 23 дня назад

      The chords can be held for longer like you’re describing, though you almost have to guess how long to hold them for. That gets messy if you want to have a 4-chord progression where every chord is held for 8 bars-you’ll have to estimate 8 bars while holding record and the pads. If you hold it for 7 or 9 bars by accident I don’t think there’s a way to correct it. Also, you can’t adjust the duration of the notes by using the direction keys, but you can adjust the timing. One last thought: there’s currently no way to loop a sample (or have it repeat part of a sample) on the KO II, meaning it’s a bit limited for playing sustained chords. There are workarounds like time-stretching but there’s no direct way to just loop a middle point of a sample.

    hey James, is there a good way to contact you? I've been messing around with building a toy web app inspired in part by your KO II videos and was interested in your opinion, if you had the time to take a look at it.

    I have discovered, If you press the mixer button quickly 3 times, the page remains active all the time, without having to hold the button down (hands-free).

      I've taken a break and am ready to make some videos again. I originally wanted to share the small amount I know about playing chords rhythmically and making leads, but for some reason I'm anxious that it won't end up being very helpful. Maybe I'll give it a shot anyway!
