technically. The amalgamates formed when monster were injected with a lot of determination, monsters body’s can’t handel that much determination so they start to melt. In the true lab, the melted monsters fused together into amalgamates. gaster died because he injected himself with HUGE amounts of determination so he melted down and shattered into time and space. the word amalgamate means multiple structures fused together but gaster was not fused with any other monster so he wasn’t really an amalgamate
