Sight III-7 Mission
ASE is targeting October 22nd for the launch of Sight III-7 for the ASSF from SLC-3E. The vehicle is targeting a classified orbit for the national-security based payload’s deployment. Sight III-7 is a military reconnaissance satellite from the Atlantic Space Systems force or ASSF. The AurigaMAX Block 2.1 first stage will attempt an RTLS landing back at LZ-2 after stage separation.

After a successful launch, the upper stage of AurigaMAX coasted for several hours up to its 625 kilometer apogee where a circularization burn was completed, entering the target 625 kilometer orbit. The deployment sequence of all 5 payloads begun, starting first with SpriteSat-4, followed by the MachSat Micros and the primary GPS spacecraft.

The 4 landing legs at the bottom of the Sagittarius rocket, integrated with the heat protection system, allow for stable vertical landings and reuse of first stage boosters. The entire deployment and locking system was tested at ASE on July 22.

Due to the classified nature of the payload, no views or telemetry will be shown of the second stage, and no details will be provided about the orbital destination. Technically yes, we experimented with another ocean landing at an example droneship site. Not sure when we’ll send out DSTC for a real recovery attempt but it definitely is near.
