SoundPLAN Rail Noise Modeling ( FTA / FRA)
Hi Hans, can we open 9.0 project in 8.2 ?
hello, how caan i add a bispoke aluminium profile? with this I can in a make a windows in the software and get results
A triple wall can make the noise worse.
Hi! the SoundPLAN v9 (32bit) link is not working, what should i do?
Very helpful, it worked perfectly for the KNX ETS Hasp Dongle. Great, Dankeschön.😊
excuse me,how to set up a building front noise map for the building in batches?
No sure what you mean. Please elaborate
I cann't find the licence file about "BABN174.007", help me, thanks!
I cann't find the licence file about "BABN174.007", help me, thanks!
Does the Soundplan model consider concrete slab track where rail is fastened directly to the concrete? In that case, a rail silencer would provide absorption where it would be most effective.
SoundPLAN has a number of rail noise standards implemented (~10+). Some rail modeling standards consider corrections for the noise generation based on the rail track condition (concrete, wood,...) The US FTA / FRA does not include any correction for the track conditions. In regards to the implementation of modeling manuals / standards SoundPLAN what the developer wrote or intended. For FTA / FRA modeling the user can use typical correction for track conditions defined in other standards but then they are not following the FTA/FRA manual.
Table 5-6 bottom of table: "The General and Detailed noise models are based on high-speed trains operating on ballast and track. For systems which use slab track (i.e., with direct fixation) noise levels would be approximately 3 bB higher at-grade and 5 dB higher on an aerial guideway."
The above note is from the Sept 2012 Guidance Manual from US DOT, FRA, High-Speed Ground Transportation Noise and Vibration Impact Assessment.
while providing licence file, I am not finding any types of file renamed like- 'BABN174.007' . Why is this happening and what's the solution?
The BABNxxx is a SoundPLAN network license file. I am not sure why you would want to rename it... it has nothing to do with the video. The license contains your license configuration (Modules), software maintenance expiration and in for network license the number of network seats.
The FTA FRA emissions model assumes the benefit of sound absorption from a ballasted track. Is it true that the algorithm used in the noise modeling includes a 3 dB benefit from the ballast, even though ballast does not provide adequate absorption below 500 Hz. Is that correct? In a rail system that uses a concrete slab track with rail fastened directly to the concrete, a rail silencer, can provide a broadband sound absorption capability where modular blocks are place between the rails and alongside the track. Search Nexcem and in particular the RS 200 AP model that provides 0.80 to 0.90 full octave absorption from 100 Hz to 5,000 Hz. Can Soundplan build in an option to use rail silencers where ballast is not used for rail support?
As far as I recall the FTA and FRA manual don't have any specific correction for the different ballast types. The ballast type would only effect the wheel / rail interaction and noise generation. For a lot of trains with diesel locomotives with engine and exhaust noise are a primary noise sources. FTA and FRA have not update the noise emission data for a long time.
Thank you for the reference FTA / FRA links. Unfortunately those could still trick implement I will need to check the developer that any ballast correction would only apply to the wheel rail noise and not the engine/exhaust noise for the locomotives Maybe check with in a couple week to confirm
Thank you for the video. Do you have a solution for if the HASP driver was installed successfully but on the localhost page there's no option for "aggressive search remote license"? I've followed all the other steps but can't figure out this issue
The aggressive search option has been removed in recent version. I suggest to enter the computer in the network that have the hasp keys in the Remote License Search Parameters. That list really helps finding the keys.
is it possible to model a concrete floor in Insul 10 with an isolated floating floor with insulation in the cavity?
I think that should be possible. Please contact me via email
Can you edit the material for example eco-material like a rice husk? Thank you.
Yes you can add materials in INSUL. INSUL provides a database of materials but the user can add more materials into a custom database. I created a video on the INSUL material editor ruclips.net/video/Ea1y_Kbu6pY/видео.html - although that was created in v9 it still applies to the new INSUL v10 application
I observed from the graph that the example partition exhibits a sound reduction value of approximately 10dB - 15dB at frequencies below 125Hz. What would be considered a suitable sound reduction value for those frequencies in a profesional recording studio soundproofing design? Thanks
There are various options to increase the transmission loss at low frequencies depending on the type of construction. INSUL predicts the TL from 50 Hz to 5 kHz. As part of the initial steps of your design you have to come up with your spectral goal inside the studio. Then you need to check on the spectral transmission loss for the different path (e.g., the surrounding walls, doors, windows, floor and ceiling), the available space, construction type (framed construction, masonry,..) and funding for the project. With all that you can start using INSUL going through the different scenarios... the lower the allowable the more detailed you need ensure that have all the sound paths (direct and flanking) covered.
What is the meaning of "deviations" in insul tables description? (Below 100Hz)
Once i create a new material , the option to save is not showing(that is the ok button is not working). Is it because the software is trial version?
Yes, the save option is not available in the trial version.
Hi, can you solve if the machine can use without hasp sentinel? Cause i have few machine use dongle hasp, and few of them is broken with this dongle.
Not sure what the question is. If the dongle is broken it does not help to fix the hasp driver. Software applications that using single license or network license dongles are fundamentally trying to limit unauthorized installation and usage of the software.
Hi! I tried to install it many times but always get the "installation incomplete, language files missing" notification and I get everything you provide and unzipped it. I'm using windows 11 for my computer, can you help me solve this problem? Also do you know where I can get the trail license file? Thank you so much!!!
It sounds to me the installer does not find the LFiles.zip file (language files) during the installation. The LFiles.zip file should be in the same folder as the Installation package (Install32SP0.exe). I am thinking the problem is that installation software is started within the zip file. Please unzip all files into a folder then start the installer. In this folder you should see (1) Install32SP0.exe and (2) Files.zip (do not unzip this file) good luck
hi, could you explain how to zoom in and zoom out the entire program window? Is this something to do with the operating system? I use windows 10.
you have to be more specific which program (GDB, Graphics,... ) you are using to zoom in and out. Also are you using v8.2 or v9. For the most part the zoom works with the mouse wheel up /down - zoom in / zoom out
Heads up: Change the audio to mono if you’re hearing scratchy audio like I was.

Can I import a Room 3D drawing from AUTOCAD as dxf to Soundplan and start working on it ???
Also, How can I create the Grid map graphics results ??
you may want to watch the following video on SoundPLAN Graphics Grid Noise Map ruclips.net/video/B0vcnUwm1ME/видео.html
Good question and my answer would be it depends. You can not import the DWG files. So you can export the DWG into a DXF file. You can import AutoCad DXF file but most 3D Objects in ACAD are not supported in SoundPLAN. I still find it very helpful to import the DXF file data as point line and area objects. If the data is organized you can select and modify the data or trace them the GDB. . After the import you start with a basic room layout and started adding room complexity as your refine the interior noise model. Just importing a Acad drawing into SoundPLAN is probably not the best idea as the interior drawing in ACAD drawing has typically too much detail as it was entered for a different purpose... visual representation or construction ... the acoustic model is typically less complex. I hope that answer your question.
How to about holes on a wall, can this software predict it?"
INSUL has a feature call leakage that allows you to consider a leak in the construction. It can be entered as a slit (height, length, depth) or aperture (diameter). There are various parameter to select from based on two implemented papers by Gomperts or Mechel. Get a trial license and try it out.
can I make a facade noise map for an industrial building
No, not with the current software version. You can create the industrial building and then make a copy of it as a regular building for which you can run a facade noise calculation. The facade noise map would only predict the noise from the rest of source on this building. The noise that is radiated from the industrial building would not be included. I hope that makes sense.
@@HansForschner Thanks
Hi, I have complex building in my project there are many Mechanical floor contain many machine, I want to calculate the impact of the mechanical floor to adjacent floor, I model draw the mechanical floor and the below and above floor in same model and insert all walls, ceiling, machines so it becomes a complex model when I run this model it take more time around 7-8 hours and at more time I get error "out of memory " I want to ask if my concept in the mood is right and if there any features in soundplan can help me or any trick I need to get in my model
Amr, sorry to hear that SoundPLAN ran out of memory. There are various possible issues why the runkernel did run out of memory. (1) Where you using the 32bit of 64bit version of SoundPLAN. The 32bit version is limited to ~ 3GB of memory. The 64 bit is limited by the RAM you have on your computer. Try to run your model with the 64bit software version (2) you entered a very complex model with line and area indoor sources and lots of interior walls. The more complex the model the more memory needs to be allocated. Make a copy of your indoor model and simplify your model - see if that improves your memory requirement. (3) Don't start with an indoor grid noise map. Grid noise maps usually require much more memory than the single receiver calculation. Start with single indoor receiver calculations. (4) the run parameter setting are too detailed which also can add/increase your memory requirements with your computer system. So please check your parameter settings In general it is a good practice to start the indoor model with a simple model and get some initial results and then add more complexity (i.e., source and walls, etc) into the model. You may want to contact your SoundPLAN hotline support person on how to troubleshooting the issue.
@@HansForschner thanks

Hello, thanks for the tutorial. How I can solve the issue if the program says "You are using a browser that is not supported by the Google Maps JavaScript API. Please consider changing your browser."?
The interface to Google Maps change ~ 2/2022 SoundPLAN had to change the map service browser that they were using in SoundPLANnoise and SoundPLANessential. To get this fixed you have to update your software with a revision dated after March 2022. That should fix the issue.

Hi sir I want learn this how to apply?
I am not sure what your question is. How can I help you?
@@HansForschner how to download this software
@@FSKMusiQ you can download the INSUL software from the download page on the INSUL website www.insul.co.nz/download/ the normal installation is the demo version... if you want a trial version please contact me and I will send you a license file for a trial
i need license please tell me how to get it?
This doesn't actually tell me how to create materials in Insul. I'd like to be able to create a material not included in the database especially if I have the TL data.
Please check the video at 4:00 -> you add a new material. Give it a name and go through the parameters. If you have a new material that is similar to an existing material in the INSUL database - I would make a copy of this material which will put the copy in the custom library. From there you make changes to the name and the respective properties thickness, modules ... When you are done entering all the parameters you would create a STC or IIC model with your material and see if INSUL's prediction within a range of your test data of your material or assembly. If it looks different try to identify in which range you have discrepancies (mass area, resonances, coincidence range...). From there you will need to tweak your input until you are getting a better match. In case you have problems with the adjustments please contact Navcon.
hii the hasp driver can apply to window 11?
The hasp link in the description should be always for the most current Windows OS
Scary that software vendors still use this hasp key junk.
Thanks for the comment. Hasp keys is a technology that goes back to the early / mid 1990. The idea is to secure software license from being duplicated and sold on the black market. Today's options provide other tools such soft license and cloud licensing. There is a wide range of users, IT personal and software developers that have varying needs for security, transfer options, concerns of losing keys, . I don’t think there is one type of software license security that fits all. With that it is very likely that Hasp Keys will stay around for a couple of more years. In the meantime this video helps troubleshoot various issue that you may encounter. Cheers

Thanks hans
Thanks for a great video. Very helpful. I do have one question. If you create a custom material, where does it get saved to? If I want to have multiple coomputers with Insul it would be good to copy custom materials over rather than having to make them on every computer.
you can save the custom material and it is saved in a folder C:\ProgramData\Marshall Day Acoustics\INSUL90\materials . In that folder you find ~ 15 xml file for custom data from materials, connection, cores, studs,.... you copy the file from one computer to other computers. You can also setup a network drive folder for your customer data files. If all computer refer to the same folder that would work the same way.
Odd just saw your comment... if you add or change a material it goes into a custom database. You can copy the customer files to a network directory and then set the path for the custom database in INSUL software settings. That way you share the material information over multiple computers or users.
@@HansForschner Hi, thank you for the response. I worked it out 5 months ago though. All sorted now. Thank you.
Hello sir, My name is Ashish ( PhD scholar). Sir am using a sound Plan. When I clicked on fundamental -connection to OSM & Google maps - alternate lookups, it is saying that google is blocking your IP address. I want to use open street maps. Sir, please give suggestions.
Dear Ashish Kumar Choksey, sorry to hear about your problem. If the Google Maps interface has worked in the past you maybe using an older software version (prior to March 2022). Google Maps made some changes in February 2022 and SoundPLAN had to develop a new interface. and incorporate the changes in a software update. The changes that includes a new online map service are available since March 2022. is there any way how to simulate dry leveling compounds in floors/ceilings? Say liapor, fermacell, or even as simple as layer of sand?
INSUL has several Fermacell boards in the material database. There is also a Sand/cement option... I will have to find out more about it.
Very easy to follow walk through. Thanks Hans!
how can I simulate the noise barrier in SoundPlan with defined STC
Amr - good question. Typically the sound transmission through the outdoor noise barrier can be neglected as the barrier insertion loss is capped (per ISO9613-2) at 20 dB (single barrier) or 25 dB (double barrier). ISO requires that a barrier has a minimum surface mass of 10 kg/m^2 in addition there should be no major gaps or holes in the barrier. Typically even at low frequency the predicted barrier insertion loss is lower than the transmission loss of the barrier. The only situation that could be potentially an issue could arise if you have a very tall and light noise curtains barrier (> 6 m) that has no loaded septum and therefore has a low STC value. Especially if you have a source that radiates a lot of low frequency noise ... the estimated insertion loss over the barrier may be higher than the transmission loss through the curtain wall. Again this is only an issue if you have a very tall barrier and fairly weak barrier TL.
Thanks hans for the patience, fabolous job, Very helpful, and Many Thanks
Glad it helped
1:39 this is now fixed in the 7/21/22 Version 8.2 update
Matt, thank you for your note. This issue was fixed in an SoundPLAN update release on 2/23/22. Fortunately SoundPLAN was able to incorporated a new web browser in less than a week. After the release the interface to Google Maps worked again. This issue triggered the creation of this video as users where exploring a work around to get aerial into the Geo-Database.
is there any way to remove the sound absorption from the frame options? For example to have 2 skins of concrete blockwork with air gap only? All I can do is reduce sound absorption to 10mm minimum.
You can remove the fiberglass by changing the number of layers to 0. Also if you have tow concrete block walls you probably want to use a frame without connection... check out the INSUL helf for more information on frame types.
Hello, how can I make a circular building on its side? like a kind of horizontal tube?
Sorry not possible. If I had to model that type of elevated tube and it is significant in dimension.... I would use the building object and float the building. The height of the floating building I would set to ~ 70 % of the object height ... so you simplify the reflective property and the potential shielding of the object. With the floating building SoundPLAN will predict the noise over, under and around the floating building if the source - receiver line of sight is blocked. It will also consider the reflection of the floating vertical building surfaces. Not ideal but still provides some consideration of your floating structure. Note - if you have floating buildings in your model the computation time will go up...
In the video about complex buildings I do you have some floating examples of buildings that look like a building with a hole in the center (e.g., donut)
@@HansForschner thanks for your answer, i'll try it that way
