Was one of my father's favourite symphonies, suffice to say it's now one of mine.
Maestro Szell and Cleveland Orchestra performed the symphony in the most impressive and attractive manner also in Sappro of Japan in 1970 which made me cry. I never forget him and his greatest orchestra in the world forever. Thank you.

Thank you for uploading this!
I think this is one of the greatest recordings of the Pathetique I've ever heard; unfortunately, RCA deleted it from the catalog fairly quickly and to my knowledge, it has never been reissued. Thanks for making it available here.
Masterpiece!
Incredible piece.
Amazing Maestro Svetlanov

Großartig!
Stellar performance from The Age of Gold......BRAVI TUTTI from Acapulco!
Thanks for sharing. Much preferred to that standard version with its silly "redemption" theme tacked on at the end.
Eh, I like the voice leading in the original version, both in the organ/strings response and in the subsequent woodwinds. If anything I think the repetitive cymbal clashes sound silly here
Definitely one of the finest symphonies of the Romantic movement in music. Great performance with all the necessary energy this work deserves.
This one has what in German is called Schwung. A sort of seemingly uncontrolled impetus to move ahead…. An Amazing feeling of spontaneity. Bravo
Impetus. Impetuous impetus actually.
Thanks for uploading this. I would love if you could upload Honeck’s other Mahler recordings, especially of symphonies 3 and 4. I can’t find them on RUclips, Spotify or anywhere else
I agree! Everybody praises that Mahler 3, I really wanted to listen to it and couldn't find it, unfortunately. Would love to see it here.
@@khalilmutallibovI hope someone uploads that one and the 5th I cant find it in any platform
Dohnnanyi and the Cleveland on searing form here recorded the best rendition of Ameriques one is ever likely to hear. It is an early work, given that scores left in Europe were destroyed in a warehouse fire. Varese re-wrote a few from memory but his important music was composed in the USA. Chailly's set remains the obvious focus for Varese in the round but during Dohnanyi's time with the Cleveland Orchestra he took the precision and grace of Szell and developed his semi-fellow countryman's art to a modern repertoire. A downside of his occasional best performances of Varese pieces was to show that the ItaloFranco-Burgundian composer was a "rabbit hole" composer. I think, now in my 7th decade, that those of us who heard Varese in our 20s or even 30s were thrilled by the raw, percussive and harmonic potential as events rather than music related to other trends of the time. Many academics said that they had wished for more works and some equilibrium but events in the composer's life took him into grandiose projects based in Europe, most of which fell through although 'Poeme Electronique' in a couple of forms remained. To be truthful, the music has little development and, rather like 'Ameriques', the repeated "slabs" of music sound like a set of special effects with padding in between. Other electronics composers, notably Stockhausen, had the same pedigree as Varese in formal training but also knew the limitations of technology in general as well as as a phase i n post-WW2 development. With hindsight, much of Varese's music is more procession of what he called "organized sound" than in possession of "hooks" such as motifs which lead to shape. Although Varese was praised in his lifetime and influenced numerous musicians for a while there is a sense of his output being frozen in its time. Of truly great composers perhaps only Birtwistle applied the "slabs" used by Varese but the British genius seldom let go of a narrative element and sense of shape. I knew Birtwistle quite well and he did not acknowledge much 'Varesian' in his own music except for one of his purely orchestral works which he said needing pruning a bit. Any guesses? Thus, Varese produced a portfolio of interesting and exciting music but influence and staying power are other matters.
Earth Dances?
If you stream this on Spotify, the 4th movement is greyed out.
Thank you for uploading this. The official release on streaming platforms has, in my experience, been a total disaster. For reasons I do not understand, only the first 50 seconds of the first movement are on the first track, and the second begins at the start of the second movement.
Hi Daniel, Any chance you can upload the two remaining selections from this CD, Berlioz's Rakoczy March and Weber's Oberon Overture?
the very end of the piece is one of the most powerful performances ive ever heard of it! not quite sure how he does it but extraordinary.

Could you please upload the remaining items from this album: Klaus Tennstedt's recordings of Ein Deutsches Requiem and Schicksalied?
They are uploaded!
Gracias.❤
It's a good audio recording, but in terms of expression Günter Wand is unbeatable for me. The climax here is very abrupt (31:51), which has a very glorifying effect. However, the following section (32:10) seems rather weak as a result and leaves you feeling a little stuck, whereas Günter Wand introduces the section at 31:51 rather more moderately, but thus lends more emphasis to the section at 32:10, making the entirety seem more flowing and not gradual. This recording seems very pompous and huge, but this is mainly due to the audio recording, which delivers very good stereo sound and so you get more of the great brass in fortissimo than with the live recordings of the NDR Elbphilharmonieorchester or others, for example. I also like the recording, but for me Günter Wand remains at the top of the Bruckner interpretations 🎶
The first movement is a challenge to air conduct 😮
Fabulous performance 🎉
This is bar none the finest recording available! Szell, and The Cleveland Orchestra at its finest!!
Have always loved Pittsburgh symphony back to Steinberg. Always & still a 1st class orchestra 👍
Why oh why do they pull things like this out of total circulation? Not even available on Spotify.
blame sony. it's only available on japan apple music. region locked.
Deeply romantic with drama and mistery. Masterpiece!!!

Thanks. I ordered the SACD of this recording and am looking forward to listening to it. Second movement is especially strong and vital. Love it.
George Szell has always bern my favorite conductor, Sibelius one of three favorite composers.
Just curious; who would the other two be? Sibelius is one of my favorites also.
@@waynesmith3767 Well, you caught me with my contingencies down! When I list favorites--Stravinsky, Barber and Sibelius--it's always with the preliminary concession that Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms cannot and probably will never be surpassed, at least in tonally based music. But when talking to serious music lovers who know how to assess greatness, it's kind of goofy to say one's favorites are Bach, Beethoven and Brahms!
Klemperer is not a conductor whose name comes up often when discussing tchaikovsky, but he is really on game here 👍
Suitner is my Loving Conductor!!!!
This is a wonderful recording but I rather stick to Wand live in Lubeck. It’s a more thoughtful and colorful interpretation!
A me francamente è sembrata senz'anima.
@@michelangelomulieri5134 No no, alludevo a questa di Suitner.
Wand’s approach works sporadically. He makes the 8th drag as though it’s out of energy. No thank you.
