47GHz Snow Scatter 149km - VA3ELE FN03VW to VE3KH FN03CG
Просмотров 132День назад
It wasn't a rainy day... it was windy and cold AF lol But, it was good enough for a new personal best of 149km on 47GHz Snow Scatter. 24GHz was 59 and absolutely nothing heard on 78GHz. 12/12/2024 @ 0030UTC I forgot to note the actual temperature, but wind gusts were reaching 65km/h as you can see the waves in the video.

Weather looked good for some tries on 78GHz RS. We stretched the previous 37km RS to 66km. So... YES! We will be able to do 78GHz VUCC via RS. Peaking on 24GHz was good to find the signal for 78GHz. 15/10/2024 @ 2044 UTC WEATHER @ FN02AX Temp: 11°C felt like 6°C Humidity: 49% Dewpoint: 0.7°C Winds: 21km/h gusting to 32km/h (Cold on the hands, I must be getting old) Here's what it sounded like o...
1st 78GHz Rain Scatter QSO - VA3ELE FN03FN - VE3KH FN03CG
Просмотров 7733 месяца назад
Finally!!! Successfully completed our first 78GHz Rain Scatter QSO with Kevin VE3KH. 07/09/2024 @ 1513UTC Not far, only 36km direct path, but now we know it works. It was pretty windy and it made it quite difficult to keep tracking of the rain as it moved across the path. It took quite a few tries to get a complete QSO because of the fast moving cells and we even had to take a good 30minute or ...

Huge thanks to Neil VE3SST for going out to FN13ax to give Kevin VE3KH and me Grid #8 on 47GHz . Only 136km between us, but signals were awesome. we tried 78GHz several times with no luck at all.

That's really cool (no pun intended). Nice QSO!
I listen to my cw and sounds like I need more practice, too many errors
Very cool! Hey my radio club out of NW Ohio is starting to get on 1.2ghz. I know that is more entry level, but we are looking to expand into the higher microwave bands. For the area do you have any recommendations for what would be the next band to try to get on? We are in the planning phase pretty much so looking for what would be worth our effort.
@k8ktoamateurradio671 great to hear from you. I love 1296 as well, but because of my situation I'm limited to operating portable as of late. If you're looking at activity level during VHF contests, definately there's a huge group of 10GHz ops out there and each QSO is worth 8 points in January and 4 points in June and September VHF. You can also get in on the action during the 222 and up as well as the 10GHz and up contests in August and September. To me, that's money well spent. If you're still looking to add bands, get 902 then 2304MHz. Lastly, 3400 and 5760. It's unfortunate those bands get the least amount of attention, they are still a lot of fun and every band offers its own challenge
Nice job guys!
Thanks Peter. This would not have happened without your enthusiasm. Hugh VA3TO
Congratulations!
Congratulations, Hugh. An incredible achievement. Well done. Scott, VA7SC
Excellent stuff! I'm getting set up for 24 and 47 from home in the hope of catching some brief ducting events. Neil G4DBN
You're a little far hihi. Maybe we can persuade you to make some nice 47GHz Switches with WR19 flange footprints.
@@va3elepeter You will never guess what's on the screen of my Autodesk Fusion CAD machine at this exact moment... I'm trying to work out how to make choke slots in the rotary faces of a traditional rotary w/g relay, but I have an idea using a sliding element with a linear actuator instead.
Holy cow! Huge signals! How much elevation on each end?
@radiok2ua really it was weird. In the beginning, just shortly after 8am, Tony was actually strongest even though humidity was quite high, over 80% and it had the cleanest cw tone way up around 30dB over s9. His signal.peaked +1 degree . Later we tried again to peak signals to work 47GHz, his signal was wide on 24 and it actually peaked -0.4degrees. I suspect that was due to the frost burning off and creating a duck low to the ground. Pointing up really nearly killed the signal
You guys are unstoppable!

Awesome Pete and Kevin!
Crazy stuff
Awesome... our ticket to 78 GHz VUCC !
Nice to run into you here on YT Peter - looking forward to our next chat. 73 de VE6LK :)
Nicely done!
Great QSO Peter. I now have 78Ghz envy.
Congratulations Peter!
Nice work!
Very cool !
78Ghz !! Never heard about that high freq. 73 DE DS2ZEC
Impressive! Kudos! 73. Bert, VE2ZAZ - VA2IW
Bravo! I doubt that I'll ever operate in that range, but it's great to follow. (Now I want to see if I can get my G90 mike to key CW like that!) - VE7HAR
Heard u had a typo missing the 3 in your callsign. Keep up the great work on the high fringes!
Where do you hear a missing 3? Time in video?
Do you mean the missing V in VA3ELE and later a missing 3 in VE3KH while Kevin is typing into Smart SDR?
@@va3elepeter Yes it was the VEKH I noticed. No biggie.
Awesome ! de VA3TO
Unreal Keep after it, get across the lake 73
Really cool! 73 Fred K1FMS
Well done guys!
Great stuff!!! 73 Neil G4DBN
Nice. I 'm working on 10 and 24 GHz stations now. Probably never make it to VA3 land, but seeing others on the microwave bands gives me encouragement to keep at it!
Where are you located? 6digit grid?
@@va3elepeter I'm in CN97tj, and in a canyon, so probably most of my microwave work will be done portable. Or EME ... eventually (I hope).
242 Miles in old money or 390km. Nice scatter.
R9WEI 👍
Awesome!
Awesome work! Truly inspiring! Thank you!☺️
What elevation was Kevin VE3KH at?
I think about 80ft above Lake Ontario water level
78 Ghz, what's next? lol 73
Nice 2m QSO
Thanks the video! VE3HPC
Good first experiment. I look forward to trying this again once you have the additional gain of a dish.
Peter I see that you've finally turned your camera the right way for shooting video! 73 de VA3HES
Excellent stuff! Is the split doppler from different ducting paths or something else? 73 Neil G4DBN
Really not sure, too new to the band.
Most likely airplane scatter.
@@radiok2ua it was a tiny shift though, and very long-lasting. Has to be a very small path length rate of change. 1 metre per second is around 250 Hz shift at that freq, so a drifting vessel on water or slow- moving ducting might be involved, but was it only one-way? Maybe an artefact in that case. Fascinating stuff. I really must get on the band and try it out. Great work folks.
Nice signals!
Thank you sir. Looking forward to a QSO woth you
Awesome!!
I am so happy to have worked you as my first narrow band QSO on 10 GHz! And the cherry on the cake, you have captured it on video! Would you mind if I used some of your footage in one of my videos? It was too windy here to set up a camera on a tripod. BTW, my previous comment may have been put on the approval queue due to the integration of a Facebook link. Just disregard. Thanks! 73.
Absolutely. Great QSO, thank you. Oh and thank you for the WSPR 2m beacon, I hear it often at home, usually airplane scatter.
Hugh, yes and if you look closely, you can see the 2nd trace has doppler from Airplane Scatter.
