Chevy 2wd to 4x4 swap PT2
In Todays video I cut and welded a 2inch pipe into a hole I cut in my frame to mount the front differential.

Swapping my 08 Chevy 2500 to 4wd Works for 2008-2010 but is basically the same think as 2000-2014!!!
I want to do this on an̈ early model Toyota. Hope I can find some good advice somewhere on that!

I have 2002 silverado here my plans 6.0 twin turbo awd stock ride height stage 3 4l60e building it myself silverado ss front diff an nv149 transfer case coilovers up front not the t bars any thoughts or comments
So I have a 4.8 wt that I’m swapping, do you know what kind of mounts you have to make to fit the front differential?

I bought the truck and had everything to make the swap so why not
I have a 2011 gmc sierra 1500 slt 5.3 2wd. Everything on it is factory and I have a single driveshaft not a dual.
How did you swap the control switch
I swappped the whole harness but I’m sure you can find a pin out online to where it connects to the ecu
I’m thinking of putting a floor shift 4wheel drive conversion into my 2005 Silverado crew cab 2500hd unfortunately I can’t find a video of anyone doing it

You can probably adapt it but I’m not that good with electrical yet so it was easier to swap everything
I have a 2011 Silverado that I bought a front diff with your same setup, but 1500 frame. I could cut holes in passenger side frame to fit the side, how can I attach the driver side on the front diff? Can send pics over email if it’ll help

Yes but with a lot of fab work, it would be cheaper and easier to swap your body and bed over, But if you really want to do the swap you will have to replace/ change the whole front suspension because the 1500 has coil overs in the front, you would have to switch to 2500/3500 suspension with the torsion bar but after that it’s basically the same thing except the way you mount the front differential is different, you will have to weld tabs to the frame instead of drilling threw it….. @@drcustoms4326 thanks for the advide if I just go from a 4.8 to a 5.3 swap instead of 4x4 will I need to change my tranny I have the 2008 model I think is a 4 speed
The 5.3 should bolt right up, have to swap ecu probably or swap to a terminator but everything else should bolt up
I got a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3 RWD and would love convert it to part time 4x4 with a manual transfer case. I just haven’t been able to put a list together of everything I would need. Do you know?
That would be pretty easy but you will have to weld the brackets for the passenger diff mount to the frame! Everything else is the same
@@drcustoms4326 I am actually a welder, I am sure I can do some of the fabrication. Let me ask you this, I can do this swap from any Chevy/GMC truck that came with the manual transfer ase, right? I’d be looking for a donor truck obviously to get all the parts I need.

If you have to tools and means I say go for it
Would it be a better idea to swap the TCM, ECU, and BCM from the parts truck than trying to reprogram it all, but flash it with my VIN and all that? I'm looking into doing this with my 2012, but I'm looking at using junkyard parts to try this instead of a parts truck given that around my area I can get the whole transfer case for $150 total. I have no cares about how long this would take, I've got all the time I need, but I don't want to get into the project and then hit a wall and not know where to go. I figure it would probably be easier to just take the entire wiring harness out of the donor/junk truck and put it in instead of trying to wire myself, but I'm curious if you have a solution that didn't occur to me
I swapped all of mine over because I had a wiring problem but you could put a 4x4 TCM and get it programmed at a local chevy dealership to the trucks vin
If you swap a new ECM in your truck it will go in theft mode so it will have to be towed to the dealership and have the key programmed

@@drcustoms4326 awesome. So essentially it’s just putting on the tailhousing, new input shaft, front diff and it’s accessories, the transfer case, TCM, and then reprogramming the BCM?
Yes the stock harness doesn’t have any of the wires for the front diff and transfer case, so you could probably just run an external harness to those 2 and pin into the ECM. Same thing with the 2wd to 4wd switch in the dash
Would the 1999 to 2007 trucks be the same by taking the back of the bell housing and swapping it from a 2wd too a 4 or is it just for that year truck on the Silverado’s?
It’s the same process! Make sure you take the extra time to pull it out and stand it up to swap everything makes it way easier
You can swap it without taking it out but you need 2 people and it’s very stressful one has to hold the plates in while the other person lines everything up

This is my dream Do this but in a 1500 silverado 2008 You need to replace all the Wiring from the engine transmission and buy one with wiring to the transfer case and the inside replace the all wiring in the dash make this to Electric 4wd
Yeah it’s a true pain is the ass 😂😂 there’s some people that cheap out and put a floor shifter but I wanted it to look completely OEM
I’d like to know how long did it take you from beginning to end for that swap, how much money you spent doing it, and thank you for the very instructive video.
I would guess around 40hr is the swap but a lot of that was figuring out what has to be swapped and what can stay, I have 4k-6k in the parts truck and driveshaft and other random parts Honestly better off to just buy a 4x4 truck but if you have one laying around to use as parts it’s a great project
So at the end of the day.. it’s easier to just sell the 2wd and get you a 4wd😂🤷♂️

Most likely have to swap the frame.
In the 1500 silverado 2007-2013 its possible without change the chassis all you need to convert it in 4wd can take of a 4wd one and put it in your truck but it take like 3 days or more and swap de Front Hub and replace the rear Ratio in 11x41 and new driveshaft
The 1500 and 2500/3500 are on totally different frames that’s why the beds don’t cross over, but it’s basically they same thing!! But if you have the means to swap a frame it’s way faster
