Dylan Rook Maddix

Dr. Dylan Rook Maddix, originally from Summerside, Prince Edward Island, is Assistant Professor of Instrumental Conducting and Community Engagement at Memorial University in St. John’s, NL. He conducts the Memorial University Wind Ensemble and teaches undergraduate and graduate conducting. Prior to this, he served as a Professor of Music and led the wind and brass studies department at Cambrian College and served on the conducting faculty of Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario. Maddix is active on the boards of the Newfoundland and Labrador Band Association and the Canadian Band Association. He also hosts "The Band Room Podcast" and the conducting leadership podcast "Changing Your Pattern."
Maddix holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Mount Allison University, a Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Toronto, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Conducting from Arizona State University.

ORIGIN was commissioned by Dr. Jeff Reynolds for the University
of Toronto Wind Ensemble. As an alumna of the school and a former
student of Dr. Reynolds, it was an honour to compose this short fanfare
to open the 2022-23 concert season at UofT. I am thrilled to have my
dear friend Dylan Maddix conduct the American premiere. Origin is an
uplifting, empowering piece that evokes the feeling of returning home
to a significant place in one’s journey, reflecting on all that has changed
