Fun in the forest without Four Wheel Drive

Odds and sods of Sporting Trials video from Firbank near Sedbergh, Cumbria. Some date back to 2012 and others are much more recent. Mainly filmed in the month of December but some are more shirtsleeve weather. It doesn't always come across when filmed, but it is a very steep site with dreadful grip from grass, leaves and lots of fallen branches (and some bracken). Marshals, competitors and spec...

Some of the small boats I have sailed and rebuilt. Mostly on Windermere in the English Lake District. All very gentle. Yeah. I know. But the rudder on the Seahawk was rubbish. After I changed the shovel type blade to a vertical one (from a Prelude) you could sail it hands-off. Anyway, I Iike feeling the boat reacting to my inputs as the fitful breeze plays across the water.

A club run out in the Yorkshire Dales. This is Buttertubs' Pass. Then a clip of the car, to capture the exhaust note. Oh. The date on the dash cam is wrong. It was 2022.

Starling Murmurations

Not many birds. I think these starlings are just practising for the big event on the Solway. This was taken from my study window looking towards Little Mell Fell, Matterdale, Northern Lakes, Cumbria. I think the starlings are a bit confused by the changing weather.

Nuts, I put the outer plate on wrong. The way I put them in it seemed to fit right.
As a Solo sailor I can confirm that you should not try to get in over the back. Right the boat on the windward side with the wind abeam. Pull yourself over the gunwale aft of the traveller using the toestraps and the centreboard case.
Good advice. But I have a long-standing back issue and walking over the gunwhale from the centre board into the boat defeated me. I sold it. My creaky back wasn't in tune with it.
Thanks! Those diagrams in the repair manuals and the parts company websites are difficult to see which way certain items face.
That's why I did the vid. I was replacing a lower fulcrum and the previous owner had assembled it wrongly. It just didn't look right. Some diagrams are plain wrong.
Aye but its British aint it!
True. No one needs swamp rat tyres and V8s
Can anyone tell me what model 7 is the cars with the spare wheel on the back? I want to find one
Dangerous dress with the blonde lady. If that loose sweater got caught in the rear spinning wheel it could have turned out bad.. Do not wear loose clothing when you are close to high spinning object. I.E. drive shaft or rear wheels.
Isadora Duncan's lesser known sister. I just filmed. I have no authority.
Loose valve?
Ok - apparently it can be done!! I’ve tried everything possible to install my beautiful powder coating heater with this hard rubber seal and just can’t make it work. And I have the engine out! I would have to bend the top mounting bracket over and this would ruin the powder coating . Perhaps my Heritage body shell is somehow different- but I’ve been trying for over a month… and I build race cars for a living
Get an electric carving knife and shave the back off the rubber block. The ones available now are thicker than many of the originals. When they changed to a thicker block they made a slight recess in the bulkhead to accommodate it. That makes it almost impossible to get the unit in. Cut it like this (if the image shows) i.postimg.cc/jjK6LrHL/heater-plenum-Rubber-cutting.jpg
Im his old touring drummer, great player
Ya cant park there Mate !!!😁🤠
Ah Yes !!! I see the Objective😆🤠
Get the rear diffs welded up 😅
sorry, thats not allowed, And you'd never be able to turn the cars in thier own space, They use fiddle brakes on the rear wheels
Amazing what these small cars can do. Which this was a sport where I live. Which engines are used?
Up to 1650cc. Mostly Honda or Suzuki. No LSD. Road tyres (from a specific list).
Was the momentum not there? Id loved to hear commentary from experienced folks.
Momentum is an important factor, but achieving momentum and going in the right direction can be strangers. Grip to get some speed over the ground is not a given. The Clerk of the Course will lay the Hill to confound drivers. Have a look @ruclips.net/p/PLw7vwJr_aeckjB_bM2G2-vhSOh3TcCicE. Most videos feature National BTRDA Champions.
Looks a great boat
What types of cars are these? I've seen them but I don't know what exactly they're called. Having open wheels on the front and the seat on the far back
Sporting Trials. www.nptcc.org.uk/ or sportingtrials.co.uk/
what the hell is this competition or sport about?
Google sporting trials - or Ian Wright Trials
@@jamesalexander4203 Thanks for the reply...I looked it up!
Fun video friend!
Thank you 🤗
What kind of engines are used there-amazing torque
The regs limit you to up to 1650cc four strokes. They mainly run LPG (which is good for torque and are very low geared. The overall engine revs to rear wheel revs ratio as around 20:1 or even lower. Most people use alloy engines (less weight at the front) and Honda, Suzuki and Triumph Acclaim (Honda in disguise) are favourites. Rover K Series work well.
Your poor mg had Covid ?
Good drive from Tom McKinney, good to see you still at it!
It helps a lot if you wave your arm in the air. LOL
Yes it does. Helped Bryan Walker win the BTRDA Gold Star event.
I've never seen a mini pickup. How much is one of those? I need one of those, for American things....also, the 78 escort actually looks cool as fuck. I have a built LSA I would LOVE to put in that ford!!!!!
pickups are as rare as rocking horse shit. They were commercial vehicles and most just rotted away. That one has a 1340cc engine and was nicely restored. About £15-18K I would think. Mk 11 Escorts also rare and restored over £20K, possibly £30K depending on spec and any history.
Helmets? safety -10
But woolly hats
Helmets are not required as this is not a Speed Event . MSUK rules. Nothing to stop you wearing one.
A cloth cap and a thick head, replaces the helmet
Ну, что прикольные же покатушки на бешеных табуретках. Похоже перед выездом проверяют, чтобы не было блокировок и всяких ухищрений.
Od this noise constant and loud?
It turned out to be a badly fitted piston which the prevoius owner had put in after a dropped valve. The press-fit gudgen pin was not central and they had tried to drift it back with a punch which had damaged the new piston. I had to fit a new piston and rod, which solved the noise. The piston was properly fitted to the rod by a specialist using a press and a jig.
I would drive one of those every single day... where's a pothole?
Fifty years ago I campaigned an Aberties trials car on the hills, wish I still owned it.
Err... what on earth are those things? They look like fun....
Really? Masks but no helmets? The world has lost its mind,
Masks because during the pandemic that is the only way the events could be run. No helmets because the MSUK does not require them. It is not a Speed Event. Nothing to stop you wearing one. Many people do.
Sounds wonderful! Makes me long to take mine for a drive. Thanks!
Thanks for posting! Did you have to trim the rubber seal any?
I am having issue with the rubber seal. Seems stiff and too thick to get the housing in the opening.
@@Stubby0266 The rubber block is actually not required. I did fit it but shaved off some of the bottom edge and the back (with an electric carving knife). Later cars have a depression in the bulkhead the block fits into and only that rubber block seems available, so needs trimming.
Looks great fun.
I love watching this! I’ve done a bit years ago.
That's some hardcore madness right there. Love it !

Sporting Trials cars. Watch the rest of my channel. They are built to strict regulations. Very difficult to drive on the surfaces offered.

the main objective is to try and Chuck you’re missus out the car, get to the top of the hill, and drive off without her
Not that many manage.
@@foleybrown , so what are these cars actually called? I mean there's rock crawlers, there's monster 4×4's and all sorts of other crazy car and 4×4 things. What are these cars actually called, and what is this kind of racing or competition actually called too?
Thanks RUclips recommended....
super!
Maybe if they had tires made for off-road it would be a little more interesting
No. It would be more dangerous. The course would have to be steeper with more chance of accidents. The whole idea is to get further up the hill over a series of hills than anyone else. Just making everyone able to get to the top is not a challenge. It isn't a spectator sport. It's about subtlety of throttle control. ruclips.net/video/cO3YHg-0DC4/видео.html
thats the point though low power low traction 2wd hill climb been done this way for years why change the class
Mate some of them looked like they are open diff so what would tires do anyway?. But just guessing this is only a bunch of blokes keeping a tradition alive.
@@riamriam6758 more a traditional sport I would think they are not trying to build 4wd 800 hp paddle tire hill climbers lol
Sale one
This looks like a ton of fun
3:10 Codriver uses Benz free driving assist manually
Wait, do they actually use those spare tires? What's the point?
The spare is a requirement in the rules. It shifts some weight to the back of the car and yes, they often get used. The tyres on the car are usually inflated to between 3 to 5psi. So they get ripped off the rims and puncture easily.
de que es el motor ?
