Nate the great!
Also wanted to say don't feel bad about the "boring" endgame conversion at the end. These are educational! Not every piece of chess content needs to be flashy.
Very educational, - thank you!
Enjoying the run. Loved c5 in the last game. Instructive. I do think you had your screen layout a little more dialed in in your last video, FWIW.
offering back the pawn in the last game was nice
Love these speedrun videos!! Thank you!!
in the nimzowitsch defence you ran into the greek gift but a version that doesn't work. Nxd6, Qxd6, Bxh7, Kxh7, Ng5+, Kg6! but if Kg8 then black is lost. how do you know this position is ok for black? i'm always paranoid when white has this piece configuration and there is not some obvious defence like a knight being able to come to f6 to guard the mate or a bishop being able to guard the h7 square at the end of the line. also, some of the positions with Kg6 are winning for white and some are winning for black. i guess the only way to know is too look at concrete variations. as white i think its easier if you a pawn on e5 or have not castled so you can start throwing the h-pawn down the board.
Tbh in this case I did not even consider the possibility. Like you said, if you can guard h7 with for example a knight on f6 or bishop on f5, that usually refutes it easily. Otherwise you just have to calculate. One factor that makes Black's chances of survival better in this position is White is lacking development and can't really use any pieces besides the queen in the attack.
Glad to see a vid w/the speedrun...previous one was a while ago.
Thank you, - very educational!!! How do you position FourKnight vs Nimzowitsch Sicilian? Is one more suitable for beginners then the other? Maybe different recommendations depending on the rating? Thanks,
Final game Rh4++😅
Semi-Slav Chessable course incoming?
Yes! I'm aiming to finish the files this month. Then it has to go through Q&A and I have to record the videos.
Thank you Nate!💯
Did you actually teach us anything about calculating?
When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. He did teach to find candidate moves before going down the rabbit hole with the first move that occurs to us. He also taught to use reciprocal thinking and move order finesses in calculation.
How long would it take you to calculate all of this?
Well I messed up in the game, so forever?! But maybe a few minutes if things are going well.
Hey Nate!
Hi!
Very Nice
Great speedrun so far! Getting more resistance is a good practical test for the 200 repertoire.
Someone calls Kramnik on this guy
Nah, I think he just played a good game
I like how you present, keep it simple, very well done
Really loved that game against the poor loser. I paused the video a few times during your kingside attack and found the same moves you played so that was really satisfying. I would’ve played Bb8, but not sure if it was the best move. Also: brings back so many memories of walking back and forth the hall to extend the baby’s sleep.
havent seen the analysis but Rxa4 Rxa4 Qxa4 Qxb7 Qd1+ Kh2 Nxf2 doesnt work as Qc1+ Kh7 Qf5+ drops a piece on top of e6 coming, that was quite a swindle
In which position?
@@natesolon position at 18:27 do you think on Rxa4 not working actually? I am not 100% variation I gave is correct
London is on my short list of most obnoxious openings to face. And it's all anyone ever plays these days.
for the Bg5 line if inserting h6 Bh4 even more powerful, then Nxc6 bxc6 e5 Bb4 exf Qa5 black is not just worse but straight up lost, one of the fave tricks. another similar lines always Rb8 currently learning your Nf3 100 rep loving the coverage, the rev grunfeld lines after c4 you opted Nc3 and allow Bb4 seems immediate Qa5 is much more forceful and scores massive. Look forward to testing it more
That's a nice line in the Four Knight! For the Reti line, I don't mind allowing Bb4 because it's not a good move anyway.
I like the 3…c5 4. e3 cxd4 5. exd4 a6 line. Seems to just end up being a nice and slow game with no tricks after that.
That is also a good option.
42:44 I actually find it really helpful to see these kinds of endgame conversions where even if I don't play a particular opening that you do, I'll still watch the endgame because it's nice to see some instructive chess about these practical endgames. And it's also refreshing to hear that even titled players can be a little shakey on their own endgame conversion skills lol. So I do still appreciate the "boring" endgame play.
I was kind of struggling 😅
@@natesolon I was yelling at you not to let him castle in that weird London game when he let you take over the centre. I don't know how, but I sensed it coming. I keep missing simple mate in 2 and stuff when I'm winning easily. It's like I switch off because everything looks winning.
Awesome - just bought the nf3 course. It would be great to get a universal black system based on the same framework as your nf3 course.
I appreciate it! I am currently working on my Semi-Slav course. Combined with my Nimzowitsch Sicilian course (already out) that will be a full Black repertoire.
Ok, saving some screenshots for some timely memes on twitter…
Love the clean early response to the Jobava. I'm looking forward to test-driving these ideas the next time someone decides to play it!
I find i clash with opening principles alot, like no way do i think the opponent should have castled kingside at 16:50. i would have absolutely jumped on rook g8 and queen g4 @18:00 going dor that checkmate. I find castling makes a king unsafer alot of times, i probably would have kept my king in the middle maybe just f8 @20:40 so the rook has that g file.
Castling is usually a great move, but this was one of those exceptions where it was tricky for both players to decide where to put their king.
@@natesolon I've seen situations where castling where it just tanks the evaluation matter of fact, there's situations where even if your going for a move like b3, sometime in the early game depending on the board it's better delaying fiaochetting bishop
Love your course. Thank you💪💯❤️
Some 900-1100s are pretty angry, but I muted chat and haven't looked back.
I just won straight up 11 games, and my wintate as black is 87%. Nimzo sicilian OP
This was excellent! Thanks for sharing!
Simple & strong. Thank you!
You mentioned using the Semi-Slav against 1.d4, are you ever going to make a course like a 100 Repertoires about the Semi-Slav?
Yes, I am working on the files this month!
@@natesolon Sweet! I can’t wait to see it. A 100 Repertoire style course on the Semi-Slav is right up my alley.
Love your courses and this video series. One comment, though - when you review the game with the eval bar, the screen moves and we only see the first 6 columns.
Argh I was supposed to fix this and forgot. Good point on the eval bar, I think I can just remove that to solve the problem.
Good job, love the explanations !
33:29 LOL If only you guys knew what was coming a few months after this session...
During the game review, the H file was off screwn
screen*
Noted, I’ll fix that for future videos
Is there a chance we get an endgame series in the future?
Sure, what would you like to know about the endgame?
@@natesolon Basic endgames like lucena, philidor, centurini, i am familiar with them but when there are a few more pieces they get more complex, that's where i struggle the most, or maybe it is just a calculation problem?
@@sh3lton Sounds like you're talking about practical endgames, where there are more pieces on the board and you have to play according to principles and calculation, not just execute a well-known procedure. These are definitely really important!
11:55 why you don t take the knight?!
I didn’t see it 🤷♂️
Good job, thanks !
Cool position to play as white, go Nate !
Make more vedio on London
Is there a chance to play the caro on a future speedrun?
There is a lot of Caro material on the internet. I think it is better if he focuses on Nimzo Sicilian
I am not a big Caro guy, but I'm planning to do other openings in the future
play rapid
5+5 is kinda on the border between blitz and rapid
These are amazing!
thank you
Glad I stumbled on this video. I learned a lot with it. Thanks 👍🏻
