    I've bounced back and forth recently with both and as much as I like Resolve (Free Version) on my desktop, Resolve for iPad is still buggy and frustrating to use as the interface glitches for me quite a bit on my M1 iPad Pro. Final Cut just works as you pointed out. Since my original background as a photojournalist, documentary and street photographer, unscripted is the defacto in my work having transitioned to shooting more video. I shoot and edit solo with no collaboration. Final Cut handles footage really well on both my Desktop/laptop and iPad Pro. My only issue is handing off only goes one way for project files - ie; Final Cut for iPad project files can be handed off to desktop version but not the other way around. Resolve can do two way project hand off no problem via their cloud service or as I like to do, archiving the project to my NAS and downloading that to an external SSD using my iPad Pro to continue editing and then back for finishing on my desktop if needed Hopefully Apple can figure out a way to enable two way project handling so that FCP can be used no matter which device. If that becomes a reality, I'll probably uninstall Resolve as it's a huge program and I only need a handful of their tool set.

    • @cevisuals
      @cevisuals 11 часов назад

      @@jakefelzien I agree on using the right tool for sure. As a self contained shooter/editor, I need the tools necessary to produce and deliver my work. I've been experimenting more and more with reducing what I need to edit. I have both M1 Macbook AIr and 11" iPad Pro - love the size and less weight of the iPad Pro but again, this comes down to issues with actual stability/usability for me at least. The mobile versions of both apps have their pros an cons as much as I've tested round tripping with both. Resolve is an amazing tool - especially what you get with the free version. Again, it feels incomplete on the iPad even though shortcut keys can open the other tabs they are buggy. For me, Final Cut on the iPad is only missing 2 things - Stabilization and true project interchange back and forth is basically all I need from FCP mobile. Maybe you or someone else has insights from your more in depth experiences about using Resolve on the iPad that I"m missing. I've watched numerous videos here on RUclips and they all basically say the same thing, yet my experience doesn't fully bear them out 🤷‍♂

    I work as an editor and cameraman. At my job I have a large problem with editing videos because it takes me forever. I do crazy overtimes and I am almost burned out. My editing takes much more time than boss wants. Creative boss told me a one short guide video should be done in 2 hours no problem. I am editing it for over 4 hours now and still a lot work to do. I have over one hour video material and should do about few minutes video guide. A CEO wants a video report from events in 2 days and it took me even one month to finish, now one week to finish instead of 2 days. I don't understand it. It's very frustrating. I am doing this job over a year. I have almost no free time, only job, no life and constant stress. I want to have also a free time. Is it possible to learn edit crazy fast high quality videos? How? Do you have some know-how? Thank you.

    Thanks for the video, If only DR would be as easy and fast for making selects I would also give Davinci more of a chance. Nothing is as easy and as fast as FCPX to rip through clips Hit I/O Hit F and move on and then make my timeline from that favorites. As it is now with DR there are too many extra steps or Keystrokes to do something even "similar". Only if they would they would some how allow me to do something like that. I have been asking for years in the DR forums. The double timeline way a lot of DR make there selects and build timelines is just too cluttered. Hopefully one day. Seems like something they could add no problem. Yet it's a no go for me. And color grading is also a no go bc of the Sony mismatch files and timecode problems. Which is a Sony problem. OH well.

      @@jakefelzien2nd comment here just bc I think it wouldn’t also be fair to mention that i personally love your point on scripting. - I’ve been watching a bunch of different creators saying that they are trying/ currently doing videos with minimal editing and scripting. Im sure you’ve seen some of this too, so I’d love to see what you think on it. You mentioned mostly scripting but occasionally going off a bullet point list, which is usually the duality right, so we script it, shoot it in pieces, and apply… or take a list to the camera and try to flow it… the line you mentioned here that really resonated in my dorky dad brain, was the 50% success rate that you may or may not see this… I would love to hear what you do in those cases too… is it a crunch thing that you’re trying for uploads that causes the need to flow and go vs taking the length of time to script? It by individual video? Day to day?? Totally would love to see what you have on it… Signed, Your #1 fan

    Great and informative video. I use Final Cut Pro and the Scene Removal Mask a lot, but I don’t start the shots with myself out of the frame. Here’s what I do: 1 - Import the footage into FCP. 2 - Export out a random frame from the video as PNG. 3 - Import that PNG into Pixelmator. 4 - Use the AI Removal tool to remove myself from the image (it’s just one click) 5 - Export that clean plate out of Pixelmator. 6 - Import it into FCP and place it before the footage. 7 - Make the clean plate 1 frame long. 8 - Select the clean plate and the footage and create a Compound Clip. 9 - Add the Scene Removal Mask effect to that Compound Clip. 10 - Turn that once again into another Compound Clip (so I can cut up the Compound Clip without affecting the reference point of the Scene Removal Mask). It might sound complicated but it literally takes a maximum of 2 minutes to do.

For someone who has never edited digitally (the last time I edited was during A-Levels during the 1990s where we had to learn to splice tape!), CapCut is startlingly easy to get started with and come out with some good results. I kinda disagree with you that an editor can’t be intuitive. Here is an example from my own experience; I am writing a ttrpg. I started in open Office and then I went to Word. It contains a lot of tables and different headlines. I have met several obstacles where I Said to myself “why does this thing not do what I want it to do? It makes sense to do this thing this way. This table should be acting this way when I do this and it doesn’t”. Then I saw some videos about Apples Pages and Saw that these exact problems where I thought “this should work like this” in Word - they ACTUALLY did work like I wanted them to in Pages. Because Pages are intuitive. If a text editor Can be then so Can a video editor or photo editor.

    Great tips however, when swapping clips left or right, for example, audio tracks can be over written inadvertently even when tracks are locked and disabled, therefore, it's recommended that you have eyes on all layers when performing shortcut maneuvers in Resolve.😵😳 When moving tracks up and down, empty tracks are created which is a major pain in the butt as well. Also, the timeline view constantly changes, zooming in and out, as these edits are made causing me confusion and disorientation. Man, Davinci has a lot of work to do before it can come anywhere close to the elegance and ease of to use that is FCPX.

      @@jakefelzienfair they do have a full size keyboard. You also have the loupedeck. Coolermaster is coming out with something but I don't think it will be compatible with resolve when it releases.

    Counter Point ☝️ - I own the full transparent TOUR BOX. I do think with 2+ weeks of use it becomes VERY fast and intuitive. Its largest value imo - is for those individuals whole deal with LOTS of post production work and perhaps use Photoshop and Lightroom along with something like premiere or Davinci. Brush size, zooming, toggles remembered effectively for all these programs is priceless once learned. Paid $300ish after tax for mine and made the money back easily with saved hours / and fun I had during my first $5K paid project. Cant live without it. Tossed my old slow Logitech MX and am a pretty big fan boy (girl). Best regards 🎉
