Quick comparison - Manny Marroquin Reverb (Waves) versus 7th Heaven (Liquidsonics)

Here I'm playing a little guitar into 1. Manny Marroquin Reverb (Waves) followed by the 7th Heaven (Liquidsonics) - related to a discussion on Gearspace. I'd always wondered what the MM plugin was based on - although the settings are not exact (compared to the Bricasti M7-based 7th Heaven - I've used here the Sandors Hall preset- I think the MM is based on the Bricastsi M7.

'The way you look tonight': fingerstyle arrangement
I can't tell this is a piece of software! I have worked with all of these reverb hardware units professionally in the audio post-production industry for many years. The only difference I can hear is in the TC 6000 and the richness the hardware unit gives, but there are other factors involved there for that related to extra DSP processing... Otherwise all of these plug-in based reverbs are as clean as it gets! Great work!
@@zaharishtonov Many thanks for your comment - praise indeed! It certainly sounds to me like I imagine the hardware sounds - but it's interesting to hear that you think so also having used the original units.
This is beautiful playing. I just came across it, nine years after you posted it. If you're still monitoring comments on this, I was wondering -- do you recall, if these were flatwound strings you had on that guitar, or roundwound? Also, do you still have this guitar? Thanks for posting this, just beautiful.
Thanks very much for your comment John Stephen - I'm really glad you like it.If I remember correctly I think that, yes, they were flat wound strings, probably 11 or 12 D'addario. That guitar had an absolutely wonderful sound - unfortunately it had a real baseball bat neck. But I'm often tempted to get another one just for the sound.
@@rogergamon Thanks for the prompt reply, Roger. My local guitar shop has a used one on sale. I may pop in there tomorrow and check it out, due to hearing your video (though I also have a difficult time with chunky necks). Again, very beautiful playing.

@@rogergamon You’re welcome!
Wow!!!
Wow...I actually hear a 'space', not just reverb. Really nice.
GREAT demo, much more extensive than the piano-only one I'm about to pop on VI-C. Great playing and vocal talent too!
Thanks very much Paulie - I'll pass on your comment to the vocalist. Will check out your video.
Thank you Roger. This is beautiful. Music tilting at my soul.
Many thanks for your message Christy. Glad you liked the music. Your video is beautiful and conveys so much wisdom. As can be seen by the many lovely comments it’s garnered, you and Reflections of Life have created something very meaningful and special. Wishing you all the very best.
Thanks. A very nicely produced video.
Thanks Preston, much appreciated.
I have the Suzuki guitar the same as yours but the condition is... The action is 4mm at 12th fret! What can I do?!?! It's got such a lovely deep sound I don't want to part with it! It seems to lack high notes but that's probably the very cheap strings on it.
Hi, sorry only just noticed your message. Do you maybe need to lower the bridge a little? Might be worth taking it to a guitar tech?
I always using my reverbs on instruments, so good to hear what it can do on a voice! Love what I am hearing (Kudos to the vocalist too)!
Many thanks Nimrod - I'll pass on the compliment to Louisa! :) Yes the plugin's excellent.
Love the Samplicity reverbs, I have almost everything, and Peter is fantastic!
Yes they are superb - gorgeous smooth tails on longer reverbs and a lovely sense of space on the shorter ones - maybe something to do with the vibrant nature of the early reflections in the latter (no idea re the technicalities, but they sound really good - and what I imagine the original units probably sound like)??
So very beautiful Roger. Thank you for sharing this, and for allowing Christy's story to inspire you. Keep creating your magic. Much love. Justine and Michael, Reflections of Life. 💚
Beautify music as always Roger
Thanks Luke! How's it going? Hope you're all well.
I own this reverb how do you load the 1982 version???! I can’t see anything about that anywhere??
Hi Mick, the 3 1982 presets are in Version 1 - I've just checked and they are not in V2 which came out a few months ago. If you've bought V2 are able to also download V1?- not sure.
Hello friend, nice demo and very nice melodic playing! Would you share you recording chain? Nice sound from the guitars with great texture/transients
Hi Bruno, many thanks for your comment. It was recorded just using Rode M5s, I think in stereo in which case it would probably be in x/y configuration. Just going into a simple 2i2 Scarlett. Harrison mixbus I find is great for adding a little harmonic information (that wasn't there in the recording chain!). These days I might prefer to use a tape emu plugin, though after your comment I might actually go back to Harrison mixbus for purely acoustic work! All the best, Roger
@@rogergamon Oh that's interesting! I might have to give mixbus a try, I wondered if it could be adding something. And since you have experiment with lot's of reverbs, do you have a favorite or few favorites currently? Especially for acoustic sounds to evoke beauty in a organic manner, without weird artifacts like so many have?
I bought the pack and it will probably be the only plugins I will ever need. Apverb has excellent experimental uses including weird pseudo delays with low density. With clever use you can create peculiar filtered smearing . It's particularly good when working with clip effects. My one gripe however is the missing automation features for reverb length which is unavailable. I talked to th e dude and he said it wasn't possible to do because of the way DSP works...
Yeah it's great, thanks for the comment.
Thanks for your helpful video. Wishing you all the best!
Thanks for your comment David - glad it was useful.
Great reverb and wonderful performances!! 🙂❣
Many thanks! - yes the plugin sounds amazing
I need this reverb!!!!
It is excellent!
This is hands down the best Chamber emulation I’ve heard. And by best I mean the absolute real deal. Wow.
yes it's fantastic isn't it.
excellent reverb. can do so many things with it
yeah it's fantastic isn't it
Love it. I own seventh heaven but i am looking forward for this one too
Ah great. Many thanks for the comment. ps, I just had a listen to some of your playing - wonderful!
Thanks you. I subscribed. Can you tell this beginner, why when using this in dolby atmos in PT do I see all the levels busy on a 7.1.2 aux channel when I am merely using a send for a stereo instrument? Shouldn't it just show Left and Right channel signal level and not show all the signals dancing on the L C R Rs Ls etc...? I'd be most grateful if you could explain this newbie question.
HI there, sorry I don't know anything about dolby atmosphere - I only work in stereo. I would recommend dropping a line to Matt at Liquidsonics - he's answered my queries before - am sure he will know the answer :)
@@rogergamon Thanks for getting back. I've asked Matt about 12-14 times but he's so wrapped up in his brilliance he hasn't a clue where or how to help beginners. In the end I gave up. It's incredible really that there is nothing out there unless you've had serious previous training. It will eventually change but atm, nothing. I've searched up and down YT, DUC, Google and what's worse - user manuals... not there. If you don't believe me you can see for yourself. Thanks for getting back.
@@IRELAND_MY_LOVE Oh wow. Is it worth trying a DM to one of the film/TV mixers?
@@rogergamon I'm just finishing a piece and will let you know when it's done.
whats that DAW?
It's Harrison Mixbus 32C
What did this thing go for? I got a t2 at home that used to be my moms way back
I decided to keep it - I think they may only be worth around $50 - but it has got a really nice mellow sound, particularly good in the bass and mids to my ear. Might be worth keeping, especially if it has some sentimental value?
Best plugin reverb in the world .. the sound almost like Bricasti M7 , Lexicon 480 and TC ELECTRONICS 6000
@pbaudinatnot so in this case. They tested it against hardware and the output nulled down to -80db. Can’t really do better than that.
Sounds awesome 👏 I like the sparkling bell tone.. I have an icon tele ., amazing guitar

Thanks Shane. Yes the plugin's is great isn't it.
WHAT D.A.W. ARE YOU USING!!!... ... ...
It's Harrison Mixbus 32C Tanina
Poor choice of source material for a reverb demo...honestly, I love using loads of reverb but that guitar sound is fantastic completely dry! I'm not sure it needs any reverb at all 😉 Nice plugin though, would be interesting to hear a comparison with a stock DAW reverb as well as the dry signal.
Fair enough, each to their own. The tendency is to apply more reverb in a demo than you might do ordinarily. That said I am a bit of a sucker for a reverby guitar. Tastes vary though. The plugin is fantastic at emulating different spaces IMO. All the best, R
@@rogergamon I was joking, everyone loves guitar with big reverbs don't they? My point is it was just such a nice guitar sound. But yeah obviously you can't have it too subtle if the whole ppint is to demo the reverb 😉
Nay prob. Thanks for the comments 👍
great playing and very good sounding reverb
Many thanks - yes it's a fantastic reverb.
@@rogergamon out of curiosity, what mics do you use on your acoustic? sounds phenomenal
@@dharmaone77 Many thanks. It was just a matched pair of Rode M5 mics in xy configuration, mic'd quite closely. They are not expensive but I find they are a good. They are a tad bright - but I find that using Harrison Mixbus takes off a little of the top end and warms the sound a little - I really recommend trying HMB for mixing acoustic music (and lots of other kinds) - though there is an argument for editing in another DAW then exporting STEMs as it is is bit prone to crashing IME. An alternative to HMB is simply to use their bus plugin as it has the saturation which you can dial in according to preference - the demo version of this plugin is fully-functioning, you just get a 'nag' screen every half minute or so. I think some of the HMB magic might be in the DAW itself - but certainly the HMB bus plugin gives a good flavour. That said, the audio files from the M5 sound good to me anyway ie the tone. I tend to always record nylon and steel string guitar in stereo, usually in xy but sometimes in a spaced pair. If overdubbing a lead/melody line I use a touch of Trackspacer on the accompanying track to make a bit of space - I think here I panned the accomp. track slightly to the left also. Finally, as a finger style guitarist I find the length and condition of my nails in picking hand has a great impact on the sound - a scratchy sound from a rough nail is really hard to edit out! Sorry for long answer, but just some things I've found useful :). All the best, R
@@rogergamon that's fantastic advice, thank you very much Roger for a super detailed answer! This is gold. I've used some tape emulation plugins before for taking out excessive digital top end, will give HMB a try. I have Line Audio CM3 condenser pair, will try that in XY mic'd close to the guitar. Trackspacer is a great tip too, have heard good things but haven't tried yet. One more question, if I may, since you have deep knowledge of guitars - any recommendations for a nylon string (UK or Europe), upgrading from a Yamaha C40? Many thanks!
I have a free plugin that can do pretty much what this does.
Fair enough John. Each to their own. What is it btw?
Great video, thank you. I'm on the fence with choosing either Seventh Heaven or Cinematic Rooms (standard), and the demos are really great. Mostly for orchestral music. Which would you opt for?
Many thanks. Blimey that's a tough one. I think for the slightly more dreamy and lush reverb I would favour Cinematic Rooms (or Seventh Heaven Pro which has the V2 Bricasti reverbs which SH standard doesn't). Cinematic Rooms is getting endorsements by big hitters in the film world - though I'm not sure if they are particularly influenced there by the surround sound capabilities of CR (which I personally have no use for). Both great reverbs - don't think you can go too far wrong with either :)
Thanks! I didn't realize the Pro version also had the V2's. I'm going to buy Seventh Heaven Standard and upgrade next time a sale comes around.
@@liquiditymusic6658 Excellent!

It's wonderful. Just listened to some of your music btw - fantastic!
What's the model of your guitar?
It's a Takamine 128CE - lovely guitar, not particularly expensive. You can hear older recordings of it here www.rogergamon.com It's fantastic to use the Cinematic Rooms reverb on it :)
My wallet hates you for this...
Sorry! Hope you're enjoying the reverb.
