Spent plenty of time riding Cuesta while I was in school in SLO, and never fell in love. The loose rock and straight lines can only entertain for so long. I always favored the riding in Montaña de Oro… less aggressive but still loads of fun and with better views. Great riding, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the tip about Montaña de Oro! I’ve never been, but I’ll definitely check it out when I get the chance. I totally hear you about those rocks-it was a great change of pace from my usual trails, but by the end, I was definitely wishing for a little more flow! The next day we hit up Toro Park after getting rained out, and I’m so glad we did. It was a complete contrast and a blast to ride. I’ll be dropping the video next week.
Nice!
It worked really well 😂
@hey if it works that’s all you need haha how fast does it charge it?
@ it charged at the same speed as a normal outlet. We got an extra bar on route to the trails.
@ thats awesome 😎
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 how can I find this place? I would like to give it a try.
Has anyone hit the next big jump on Bombers lately? It looked a bit overgrown, so I decided to play it safe. If you've sent it, drop a link in the comments, I’d love to check it out!
Looks like a really nice set of trails. How was it riding on the loose rocks? I’m always worried about sliding out. Were your arms tired?
Riding those rocks was easy with a bit of speed. The Bullit's suspension soaked it all up, keeping it smooth and fatigue-free!
Have you checked out this feature yet, or is it still on your hit list? Drop a comment and let me know!
Beautiful area and fun trails. It's really not far from us. We shuttle Cuesta Ridge. If you like this type of trail. Checkout Georgetown CA..
Yeah, the drive isn’t actually that bad, I can see why you shuttle it, though! I saw you hosted a ride at Georgetown but couldn’t make it. I’ll definitely have to check it out sometime!
We'll have to go back on a clear day so you can enjoy the views. Video doesn't do justice to how steep Bombers gets in the middle
Yeah that trail was really steep. Super fun though!
I like the format. Gives some more insight and context to the ride. Also, always appreciate putting the Trail Forks map up there (when appropriate). Looks like an awesome set of trails.
Thanks! Glad you liked the format. I’ll definitely keep including the Trail Forks map when it makes sense, it really helps with context. And yeah, these trails were a blast to ride! There is more from that trip to come!
What do you think of this new video format? Do you enjoy the longer mix of riding and vlogging, or would you rather see just the trails? Drop a comment below and let me know!
What a nice flowy ride! Thank you! The Vala is really a quiet bike. Only the good sounds remained. Love that!
Glad you enjoyed it!
No problem !
I remember when we first rode that trail and I never hit that jump.
@@singletrackbandit LOL...I never hit any of those jumps!
Next truck will have bed plugs for sure!
That would be pretty sweet. We’ll be able to power our bikes anywhere we go!
Where's the strangest place you've ever charged your bike? Let me know in the comments!
Nice ride. Do you know where to demo or rent this bike in SC area?
You can demo the bike directly from Santa Cruz at their factory.
@@singletrackbandit Thanks, didn't know that.
@@proProcrastinatooor no problems. Here’s the link. www.santacruzbicycles.com/en-US/factory-demo
Please tell me the names of the specific trails in the video. Thanks for the review!
I haven't ridden that trail in a couple years...looks like it could use some love....
Yeah it could definitely use some TLC. I wish I lived closer so I could help out.
Is it really so loud while climbing?
Do you think that sounded loud? I personally don’t notice any sound when riding them. You are concentrating on the trail, I think you just get used to it.
The sound is very high and loud at the Video. I rode a Brose Motor last summer, much quieter
Do you mean a Bosch motor? If so that is a Bosch motor.
@@singletrackbandit Brose motor is used by Specialized
Ah ok, good to know. Didn’t know they were called that. Those specialized motors seem problematic. A guy we rode with today said he’s on his third motor. That’s the second time I’ve heard people having to keep replacing them.
Have you had the chance to ride the new Santa Cruz Vala yet? I'd love to hear your thoughts on how it rides. Drop your feedback in the comments!
You never mentioned what u thought of the maven brakes.
I have a video coming out Friday of a full trail run where I talk about the brakes during a steep section.
Looking back, I only briefly mention the brakes in the new video, but to be honest, they didn’t impress me. I almost forgot about them entirely. What brakes do you currently have?
Thanks for respecting the trail work. Might look bigger but it’s just a hole that was filled. If you’re sending tree line, you got it.
No problems. I appreciate all the work the builders do. They keep them running awesome. Once it’s fully running again I will get back up there
You might have liked the rear suspension more in the HI progression setting, which is supposed to be plusher and sit more into its travel. Also good to remember that the new Bullit with the same layout is not too far out...
Thanks for tip. With a different set up I’m sure I could get used to it but not having that extra travel put me off. I spoke with a Santa Cruz employee afterwards and he owns the Vala. He made some mods, and squeezed some extra travel into it but he said it still didn’t feel as plush as the Bullit. I also wasn’t a fan of the display in the frame. Apparently they are coming out with a new upgraded display which will have more info. One thing I forgot to mention is a dislike the bar system for indicating how much battery is left on both bikes. That’s annoying. But it’s all personal preference. I’m sure by the time I’m ready to upgrade my current bike there will be huge advancements in the e-bike. Things are changing fast.
Have you tried the Heckler SL? It’s the bike I have (and I love it) and I’m curious how it compares to the full emtbs.
Last year I demoed the Heckler & The Bullit and test rode them both at the same time. On paper before I rode them I thought I would prefer the Heckler because it looked a lot like my Bronson. For my preferred style of riding I loved the Bullit over the Heckler. I didn’t bother trying the SL version. My thinking was, if I’m going to get an ebike I’m just going to get a full one. The more laps I can do down hill the better 😀. Again all personal preference.
Here’s the video if you haven’t seen it already. It’s a basic comparison compared to this video. ruclips.net/video/TcyyY0zzI5M/видео.html
Great review mate! I watched most of your vids on the Bullit. I just bought one on Friday in Aus I’m collecting it Monday! they did have the Vala but I wanted the extra travel and you put my mind at ease..I did sit on the Vala I did prefer the bullit the cockpit felt better for me, both were large. I left all the hype about motors behide especially end of last year most channels were getting paid by Amflow to talk it up..I’ve been on a Giant with the gen 1 Yamaha for 3 years and it’s been solid and only had it a full power 5% of the time mainly for control two much power on the step stuff we go up and also keep the power low for longer rides..no mentions the software upgrade that the Shimano motor had recently it’s been winning stages in the ebike enduro end of last year and is compared to the Bosch race motor..goes to show Amflow or after Shimano who sit second in the market and trying to over market there product with all there money from their drones some reviewers are selling their souls “$AM”
Thanks so much for the kind words and for watching all my videos. I really appreciate it! I'm glad I could help put your mind at ease. The Bullit is an awesome bike, and I definitely prefer it! Here are a few things I discovered about it that you might not know yet: Custom Settings in the Shimano App: You can fine-tune the settings to suit your riding style. We use the fine-tuning mode, which allows up to 14 different modes. We've set ours to seven modes: one Eco, five Trail modes, and Boost. Most of the time, we ride in modes 3-4 because it helps conserve battery life, letting us get more mileage out of each ride. Walk Mode: If you hold down the bottom mode button (as shown in this video), it activates a walk mode. This wasn’t obvious to me at first, and it wasn’t mentioned when I demoed the bike at the Santa Cruz Factory, but it’s a super handy feature for pushing up steep sections. I hope this helps. Thanks again for your support!
You sneaky **** Nice demo! The motor rattle sounds a bit improved. I’m glad you prefer the Bullit-I spent a $$$ on it.
It's a great bike but I’m all about the Bullit for now 😀!
Have you had the chance to ride the new Santa Cruz Vala yet? I'd love to hear your thoughts on how it rides. Drop your feedback in the comments!
Nice vid, Good Luck on these features, def above my comfort level! I like the new vid format and the PIP is well very done!
Cheers mate!! It gives me something to aim towards this year. Thanks for the feedback. Changing it up a little for 2025!!
Great goals! Mine are a bit simpler but wanna ride more of the UCSC trails
UCSC is a great training ground. So many awesome trails. We still need to come down and ride together.
@ I’m ready anytime you guys are!
@ we can arrange something when @slowerwithdonuts is back riding. Hopefully it will be soon.
@@singletrackbandit I didn’t know he was hurt. Hopefully he is back on the bike soon
nice- behind skyline college or above fassler??
Good goals for 2025! You made incredible progress in 2024. I’m confident that you’ll accomplish many of these goals, if not all of them, by the end of the year.
Thanks, I hope so!! You need to make your list when you’re back on your bike. What’s the number one goal for this year?
@@singletrackbandit Right now it's to pick up where I left off in 2024. I was very happy hitting that gap jump, it felt great. Just progressing from there.
@ awesome. We need to send more gaps!!!
Pacifica is proper knar. I’ve hit the step up many times but never the treeline jumps.
The last few times I’ve tried that step up I’ve come a little bit short. Haven’t tried it in a while though. The first few jumps on Treeline weren’t as bad as I thought they would be.
@ I cased it a few times on my e-bike. But was able to clean it on my status 160. It took almost 1000 watts in 12th gear on the run up since I wasn’t properly using the jumps for speed. It shoots you so high tho 😆
@ that sounds awesome 😂. I’ve only ever tried it on my Bronson. Looking back I think my bike may not have been set up right for them. I tweaked my suspension since but never went back to try it. Once everything is running properly I will give it a go.
hell yeah dude! ill roll with you!
Thanks! What are your local trials. Have you ridden any of these features?
@@singletrackbandit I go to waterdog a lot. Ive been to cattlehill in pacifica, tamarancho and china camp. i crashed in mile and never went back...
@@WonTONgaming218 Waterdog is cool. It had quite a lot of hikers when I went. Yeah the mile is a tough trial.
That's how you do it, line them up and then tick them off your list. I will often take photos of features I want to come back to. I think your brain visualizes clearing these jumps in your subconscious, and then it is way easier when you come back to it next time.
That's awesome! I usually take photos too, but this time I decided to make a video to hold myself accountable. Plus, I think it helps show people the direction I want to take things. What features are on your list?
Have you ridden any of these features before? I'd love to hear about your experience in the comments! Also, if you have any trick suggestions, drop them below!

Where is this section??? Is it at the bottom? I can’t find it
I’m not sure where you are looking because I haven’t disclosed the location. As I mentioned in the description I can’t share this info.
@@singletrackbandit i know the trail and place but i cant find this jump section. unlesss im taking the wrong trail.
@ send me a message on Instagram.
woah a trail out in Pacifica that isn't ridiculously steep lol
😂🤣 it’s a fun one!!! Well worth riding if you haven’t before.
@ I never ride out there because of that lol
There’s a good loop that’s not steep on the descent. Old Colma Road is awesome, I wouldn’t say it’s steep but it does have some exposed sections. It leads into this trail. ruclips.net/video/mWNC1NLfwqI/видео.htmlsi=Y-9Sn7xai79bvDxI
@ that looks cool! I’ll check it out. The steepest I like to get is Dusty’s or Cobb
How well do these trails handle rain? I’ll be in the area in a few days but it looks like they’ve had a couple inches of rain in the last couple of days and might get a little bit more. Obviously don’t want to damage the trails if it’s too muddy but I just don’t know what the dirt is like in this area so any advice is appreciated! Would you ride the day after an inch of rain?
I’ve not been keeping an eye out on the weather up at NC but down here in the Bay Area all the trails are usually a no go after the rains because they easily get damaged. A general rule of thumb is to wait 1 day per inch of rain for the to dry out. I think this would apply to NC. You could reach out to the BONC. instagram.com/b_o_n_c?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ== Or The Hoot trail instagram.com/hoottrail?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ== This is the trail builder and organization. They would know for sure.
Also thanks for asking. A lot of people from out of the area would normally just go and ride. I haven’t been able to ride for a couple of weeks now 😭
@@singletrackbandit Awesome thanks for the info
No problems. I hope you are able to get a ride in those trails are awesome. Let me know what you think if you do.
I think the truck drop at Northstar for me. It’s on my list!
That’s a fun one on your list! The first time I sent it I went a little too fast and went deep on the deck and deep on the landing. Getting the right speed is the key. It’s pretty chill once you get that right.
Glad to have been camera crew for a few of those adventures. Looking forward to 2025!
Always appreciated!!! Looking forward to it. We need to start planning more adventures.
I’d say Boy Scout and Treeline but the authorized personnel sign was epic too. Hope we can get together in 2025
Thanks!!! That log jump was fun and totally random. Thought I was gonna go OTB on the first attempt. Yeah we are definitely down to meet up in 2025. Where is your local spot again?
@ I’m in Santa Cruz
@@orangeglovesmtb awesome. We should set something up for the New Year.
enjoyed your videos all year. Definitely inspiring stuff for this 47 year old rider. Keep it up!
@@josiahambrose924 Thank you so much!! I’m in my 40s too. I’ve already started wearing a list of goals for next year. Do you have anything you are working on?
@@singletrackbandit I'm a bit more limited now since I had a 2 level spine fusion two years back. Thank God for full suspension! But for 2024 I want to get to the Nevada City trails, and while I can't jump like I used to, I want to finally clear all the jumps at the top of Boyscout. I'll leave Treeline for you ;)
@ That’s inspiring!!! I think the trail network in NC might be my favourite trails. Everything is great. Sad to hear about Hoot Trail though. I would love to see your progress on those jumps! I do need to finish Boy Scout though. 😀
@@singletrackbandit I appreciate having some accountability. I'll send you some footage if I clear that line.
@ awesome, I look forward to seeing it. I’m always down to session that line too.
They’re all impressive, but if I had to choose a favorite, it’s a tough call between the jumps at Boy Scout and the final jump in this video, which had an exceptionally wide gap.
Best hype man in the game!!!
What was your favorite jump or line from this video? Let me know in the comments!
This looks so much fun, speed on another level do a regular bike. Im eyeing a Bullit, but it seems to have the older 800 motor, not 801. You think that it still could be an ok motor?
Where are you getting your information from? It has the Shimano EP801 on my bike.
I was there today and missed this drop. Smh not sure how i didn't see it.
Don’t feel bad. I think I missed this drop the first two times I went. I had to go searching for it after seeing someone posted it online.
Did you check out all the stuff at the quarry though? Those are fun as well.
@singletrackbandit probably not all of the stuff. My first time there. Ended up going up unknown instead of going down it LOL. I did a counterclockwise loop from the parking lot. Then went into the middle to check out some stuff. I'll be going back for more for sure. Maybe when it dries up. Rocks were pretty slippery today.
I think going the wrong way on unknown is easily done on the first time. I had keep checking Trailforks to make sure we were going the right way. Did you see the technical drops and rolls near the start of Unknown & Cave trail. Those or fun but a couple are a little more advanced.
@singletrackbandit I did hit a couple rolls around the cave Trail area. But couldn't find a drop anywhere.
