This is when music was really good
I saw Thomas Dolby with the lost toy people back in 1988 in St. Petersburg Fl. I had been a fan of his for years and loved this album. I could not believe my good fortune to catch this concert. His guitar player, Lary Tredwell? I think was on fire! The best start to a concert I've ever seen. The band starts playing and out comes Thomas, bass player cups his hands and Thomas puts his foot in and he does a back flip and BAM! The show starts. The audience goes crazy! I was keyboard player back in the 80's. I got to see Jan Hammer with Jeff Beck back in 1976 on the "Blow by Blow" tour. The two best live shows ever. Those were the good old days....
Fantastic album and very underrated...
💛
such a great album, his best in my opinion
I'm in the middle of math class and i just found this... I really like aliens I heard like 1 Thomas Dolby song and i liked it And the intro of the first song already got me insanely hooked So might as well check this whole thing out!!
Une merveille du monde non numérotée 😎 La liste des musiciens virtuoses sur ce disque fantasque pop et funky est longue comme un jour sans stéréo.
I see where Incredibles got their score from now 😂
First time I saw him perform was in San Francisco in 1982 with Lene Lovich! What a Lucky Number she was! Absolutely delightful, both of them. There was a music video made of that concert, released on VHS in 1983, and played on MTV and Night Flight. I want my MTV!
Electric! Thomas Dolby was lightning in a bottle in the 1980s! I saw him perform live in concert 3x then, last in 1988 for this album tour, in San Jose, California. Fantastic! I got the T-shirt! Still have it! Love his music! One of the greatest electro-synth-pop New Wave artists!
Budapest by Blimp is one of my best songs of all time. So incredibly haunting
Ever since I got high one time the guitar in the background has never sounded the same, it's incredible haha
Thay have just killed fm
Depends on how you see it, some people (like myself) prefer the music GHR plays and some prefer Kiss.. still it’s annoying to see broadcasters merge all the regional stations into GHR.
Well, Kiss FM was permanently shutdown but the TV channel was still running until midnight of June 30th 2024
great grooves. great pop songs. love thomas.
This album shouldn't even work. The songs are so all over the place. It's like madness that somehow makes good songs.
Thomas is scarily underrated…it’s sad.

This album is a groovy bomb. It’s like Albert Einstein meets James Brown!
🤣😂
Agree
Loved the album art when it hit the shelves, the songs continue to delight decades later.
ok. I'm a child of the 80's. I have tried to love this sound after Flat Earth and Blinded me with science. never did catch on with me this album. One more try.
In 1988, this album was like a vin nouveau, a new wine for my young ears. Now, I taste it like a great vintage.
It's a great album. Just remember that it's fine to not like something particularly if it's something you have to repeat over and over in order to appreciate. That's a form of a mind bending your freewill..
A musician's musician. He delivered to the best musicians with this
A little known gem. Wore out the grooves on this album. Wonder why this didn't get more air play?
he talks about it in depth in his autobiography, the poor sales of the album is mostly due to the way record companies/radio broadcasters operated at the time. A shame really
@@colewhite4184I know that I’m late to this, but what is the name of the autobiography? I had no idea that he’d written one.
@@TheKellie36Also late here, but it’s called The Speed of Sound. I’m in the middle of it right now, highly recommended for any Thomas Dolby fan, or anyone interested in the history of Synth and electronic sound.
It was for a very short time heavily featured on WDR 2, Germany. They even played "Budapest by Blimp" on the radio, which was quite strange, as long tracks were seldom aired.
Wowy... now i'll make a try!? Exploring this as new... Didn't like this album, after adoring the WIRELESS & FLAT EARTH vinyls... Dolby is unique, anyway... (but, who's that feat. covergirl?) (PS: oh sorry, still boring4me, too funky, too)
Kathleen Beller (Dolby's wife)
Too funky? Does. Not. Compute.
