hi dave! do you need to pay the weight tax and jibaeseki first? or can you pay it after once it has passed the inspection? hope could get a response ☺
@@shizumevillamor you need to pay for the forms first and then go through. You can pay for the insurance after you pass. I always pay for the taxes at the same time but I think it's possible to pay after. I hope this helps.
skip the music, it makes it annoying to hear you
I suggest when pressing the disc drum or whatever u called that. You should depress it using an allen wrench .. Thank you for the video it helps. I have nc 700 aswell. Ridesafe
So far so good with this method
I feel like this video could’ve been cut down to about 2min.
Can't see what you're doing.
Why would you or anyone ever put grease along the threads on the first place?
seriously?
Great vid, I had the same issue until I realized the 2 yellow bits on the end of the wires just pulled right off.
and if this doesn’t work weld it 😉
I legit thought the chair was gonna fail and spill beer everywhere!…😂😂
Hi Dave. I have been looking for an easy way to attach highway foot pegs. It looks like your frame sliders would work nicely on some of my 500 mile+ days. Could you share a link to your frame sliders? Thanks for posting these videos.
Hi timmcintyre5236, These are from a Japanese company called Moriwaki. Unless you can read Japanese I recommend just going on amazon and ordering from there. There are lot's of frame slidders on there and yes they do work good for those long rides to stretch out on . Good luck and stay safe out there.
Gotta take the pinch bolt out first
Hi. I'm in japan too. In kagawa. Where did you order the oil change kits. I just buy a used nc700x and try to maintenance it
Hi there! I bought the oil, oil filter and crush washer on Amazon. All the other stuff was bought at Conan home center. Good luck
Thanks for this. I'll see how it goes, how long it might last. Kind of a last ditch effort at this point.
Excuse me. CAn I ask you, what if you don't understand the instructions in Japanese and you only speak English, would somebody take over your car and run it through the process or you have to do it?
If you can't do it you could ask a friend who speaks Japanese to do it for you, but nobody from the Shaken center will do it for you. Only the driver allowed in the car during inspection. Good luck!
@@d.i.y.davejapan thanks. I have an aunt maybe she can do it. Thanks
Just come across this great video Dave, I have a brand new NC750X so have subbed you and looking forward to watching your old and new vids. Ride safe and regards from the UK.
Thanks for the great video. It nice that the NC is relatively easy when it comes to oil changes and general maintenance. I like the look of the frame sliders you installed. Can you tell me who makes them and where they can be purchased? I've often wondering how they would hold-up in a crash. Probably fine for low to moderate impacts. Looking forward to hearing your assessment.
Thanks for the comment. The frame sliders are Moriwaki brand which is based in Japan. You could try amazon or e-bay or some other online shops. I'm pretty sure other manufactures would work just fine. I've dropped my bike once and the frame sliders worked great saving me lot's of money on replacing the fairings and other parts. Well worth the investment.
How many miles did you get out of the old tire? That's some uneven weird wear you showed on the old front tire. I recently changed a DOT 2015 original stock Bridgestone on a CTX700 with just shy of 6 thousand miles (USA). It looked way better than your old one. I bet I could go another 500 to 1000 miles and it still would have worn better than your old tire. How's the new tire holding up
I don't remeber exactly how many miles I got out of the old tire but it's probably around the 6,000 mi. mark. The new tire is holding up just fine. It could be my preference on left turns and leaning a little more than on Rt. turns. Overall I'm happy with these Bridgstones.
@@d.i.y.davejapan thanks for the update. I went with Dunlop Road Master 3. I didn't have issues with the Bridgestones. I'll see how the Dunlop perform. You should do a tire video on the replacement. What it looks like today. Then and now. Your likes and dislikes. Just a thought
I watched a few other videos about changing motorcycle tires You did a few things they didn't show, and you didn't show a few things they did. Overall you did it correctly and provided a good video for others to learn.
Very strange wear pattern. I’ve also a NC700 and also have a right side of the front tire excessive wear pattern 🧐
Your videos are great! I’m a new NC700X owner and wondering how you got all the bodywork panels off?
Hi spacecruiser, thanks for liking my videos. Taking off all the bodywork panels are mainly removing the little plastic push in screws. If you get a small scredriver just push the plastic screw in the middle circle area and it should open up and pull out. Just follow along starting from the trunk going towards the front of the bike. When you get to the front and have all the pins removed don't pull it off but rather slide it towards the head light and it should just slide off. Of course it takes some wiggling but if it doesn't come off double check to make sure all of the screws and push pins are out. Good luck. By the way you should also remove all the pins from the bottome fairing as well.
Change the crank arm. They are cheap.
the stuff he bought was like 7$😂
I was planning on taking a bicycle from Tokushima to KIX... quite the nightmare nowadays T-T
If you put it in a bicycle bag it should be ok. Good luck!
I call shenanigans on how much you got on that rear tire.
Ok, go for it.
@@d.i.y.davejapan Most I've ever had on a rear tire is 12,000mi. I need to look into the tire and try it myself next time I switch. I can't beat the dunlop for price, Pirelli is awesome for grip and rain, but sadly I got less than 5,000mi on the one I tried. The front dunlop went 16,000mi so I stuck with it and tried a shinko rear this time. It's doing well with grip and hasn't worn much other than a few spots from wheelies.
Design engineers obviously don't do any mechanical work. Else they wouldn't make regular bike maintenance so difficult. They should have to do maintenance procedures with time limits before releasing a design for a production build.
Yes, I totally agree with you! I used to have a Yamaha dragstar 1100 and had to remove the whole exhaust just to replace the oil filter. Got rid of that bike.
I just watched your video and was impressed with the calmness and clarity of all you did. I'm 76 ! I now realize if I want to do all this myself, I need a bead breaker, plastic rim protection when using the tire removal spoons as well as a static balancer, new valves and some weights. Instead of all that equipment which generally speaking I will only rarely use, I decided to just stick with the wheel removal and run both wheels down to the bike shop with my new tires, and save the labor costs at least. Thanks for showing that part. can at least do that. Thank you. Good luck and ride safe. BTW: I watched all 3 parts of wheel and tire removal on the CTX. I am much wiser now.
Dude where did you get the pegs on the side? Do they actually help if you lay it over?
Yes, they work really well. I dropped my bike and it saved a lot of damage that would've occurred without them. This brand is called moriwaki and I believe you could get them on Amazon. You could always get a different brand if you live in America. They're called frame sliders.
What are the dimensions of that oil filter wrench?
Oil filter wrench #6.5 cm 9.5 mm. rachet head Or 21 mm. spanner
your bike is as clean as a tokyo street haha
great vid thanks. music not sure it's needed haha
Hi, I have some questions regarding user shaken. I was told by a youtuber like below: First, you don't need to Replace unnecessary parts as long as your car is well maintained, yet you still need to get "Jibaiseki Hoken" from a car shop, gas stand, or garages. They won't inspect your car if you don't have "Jibaiseki Hoken". As long as you have all the requirements they ask for and it would be helpful if you know Japanese. That's the only issue here if you're a foreigner Language barrier, and the application forms that you need to fill up. You also need to get a schedule for a specific date to get your car inspection though you still get in line & wait for your turn. My question is that, do I have to get pre-inspection at local repair shops to get the “Jibaiseki Hoken”? Can’t I just take my car a prefecture’s check center to get the user shaken directly without getting the pre-inspection from dealers or local shops?
Does your car have shaken now or did it expire? If it's still valid you can just renew your jibaiseki hoken at the shaken center after it passes. If it's expired you should just take it to a local garage and have them do everything this time and in two years you can take it to the center before it expires. I usually go at least one week before it expires incase there's some repairs I have to do. Your jibaiseki hoken should be valid with your shaken so if it's not expired you don't have to take it to a local garage. I hope this helped and good luck.
@@awacruizer Thank you so much for the detailed reply. I’m planning to purchase an used car in Japan. So if the used car has done Shaken within 2 years, (if I know the car is well maintained) can I just take the car to a prefecture’s Check Center without having to check pre-inspection at the local shops?
@@Qkfltpdls777 yes, I never take my car for pre-inspection. If it doesn't pass just fix what you need to and go through the line again.
@@d.i.y.davejapan Thank you for the reply Dave!

Hey bro, thanks for the video, one question, to know if the coolant level its ok, i need to see the coolant in the top of the radiator? Or has a level mark in some place?
I didn't see a level mark but there is an overfill tank on the bottom of the bike so fill it up to the top is best.
Thanks for the help man, you also have a great vibe which made a really nice vid!
Mucho bueno thanks
Is age the reason you have to perform shaken every year on your truck? I'm also curious what sort of underbody rust will fail a car- i know they are strict but hopefully they won't fail someone for surface rust, especially on control arms and stuff.
My pick-up is considered a work truck so it's for safety reasons. It can have hold up to 1000kg. I'm not sure about the rust situation but they do go underneath and make sure it's road worthy by hitting the frame with a hammer and shaking the control arms. Good luck.
thank you this helped me a lot
Buy a set of strip sockets or some left handed drill bits. The strip sockets work great I use then all the time at work on stripped lug nuts
N0,good!
I would definitely break the bolts before putting it on the stand u just asking for it to fall over otherwise
Good idea, will do next time!
Quick question if u don't mind I have the same bike and same .scissor lift and need to remove front tire all I see to.put it against to raise it is the oil pan I believe it is and that like 5 to 6 inch square. Is that how u did it
@@shanehulsey5099 I have the center stand installed on my bike so the scissor stand was used to lift the front. Yes, I put it under the oil pan. If you don't have a center stand you might wanna try two jacks. One where the center stand would go and one under the oil pan. Good luck!
What's the name of the liquid it takes
Thanks for the question. I used long life coolent that is already diluted with distilled water and ready to go. The brand is called Lifelex that is popular here in Japan from the homecenter called "Conan". You can find coolant at any car shop and look for a ready mix type like I used or mix it yourself with distilled water. Good luck!
Can I add any each coolent ??

are old cars exempt from smog equipment inspection? mine was equipped with an egr valve but i've removed it. Its a 1978
I'm not sure about this. I do know that old cars have to pay an extra carbon tax. If you take it to a private garage they could probably pass it for you. Good luck!
@@d.i.y.davejapan how about ‘check engine’ lights on dashboard? They will check or what
@@toplespecah666 yes, they check all lights on dash, including seatbelt light.
@@d.i.y.davejapan then how if the engine lights was on? many european car engine lights on but actually nothing problems at all, how to pass the car inspection on that conditions?
@@toplespecah666 Not sure about that. Maybe it's best to pay more and take it to a garage. They'll pass in their shop. I had to take my truck to a Toyota dealership and order new seat belts because the sensor was old and the light wouldn't turn off even when seatbelt was on.
Dude, your speed up of the video is really unviewable...couldnt see anything you did due to speed and bad lighting.

You are right! It didn't hold.
:) I would drill a hole thru with a carbide tip..then jam a nail right in thumbs up
Luckily there are lots of abandoned bikes around here so I just replaced the crank.
How about drill hole in shaft and secure with a washer and bolt or screw. People say ,oh just get the bushings and ream out the crank. Yeah the kits cost more than the damn bike. Mine is an exercise bike and i used epoxy which lasts for about 6 months.
