Made this little video to document the clean up from Hurricane Helene around my house and shop in Edgefield County, South Carolina. We were blessed, our neighbors in North Carolina got it way worse, but we had 100mph winds and more tree and power line damage than I have ever seen short of war.

I Screwed Up Big-time! The Great Scout Hood SNAFU of 2024!!
Thanks Andy.I was just looking at this saw today at my local Farm and Home Supply store.I already have other Dewalt tools so I would just need the tool only.About how long could you run it on a 5 or 6 amp hour XR battery?
It comes with a 5 amp hour battery, and most of my others are also 5 amp hour. Hard to say exactly how long it will run, as it depends on what you are doing with it. But I had a medium white oak layed over, and it delimbed the entire tree on two batteries. I felt like the run time was pretty good and comparable with Dewalts other 20V tools.
No time for unboxing when you have a few tons of trees laying all over the place. Up in a tree that electric saw won't need to be choked, cranked or warmed up.
It worked great for what I needed it to do for sure
Did it work? Nice video. Guns and xjs are right up my alley😂
It did solve the shifting problem, Thanks for watching!!
What size tires are you running?
When this video was filmed I was running 33x12.50/15 BFG Mud Terrains. Now I am running 35x12.50/15 Cooper Evolution MT's
bruh why does everyone always skip putting the pan back in, mine doesnt fit back up in a obvious way and i forgot how i turned it to get it down
It will depend on which transmission crossmember you have, as to how much wiggle room you have. When I bought the Cherokee it had a rough country lift and it was a pain to remove the pan. Now I have a Rusty's four link, and the crossmember has clearance to remove and install the pan strait up. Could not hold the camera pointed at it while installing it, don't have enough hands. If I remember correctly, you have to wiggle the rear side up in and then tilt the front up. Try it without the gasket/silicone until you figure out the best way, and then put the gasket and silicone on. Hope that helps.
Lots of work ahead of you. I hope you have good neighbors that don't mind helping each other. I'm blessed we didn't have that much here in N.E. Georgia. Best of luck to you and your family.
Thank You!!
Damn Andy.I forgot about you being in South Carolina...Im glad you and your family are all okay..
Thank You!!
Tons of wood and tons of work, I'm so glad you came through the storm. You were well prepared and met the challenge.
Thank You!!
Thanks all the way from alaska
Thanks for watching!!
My XJ is a 99 with a non Collapsible sterring column ,weird huh? Unless its not working correctly?🤷♂️
Check to see if it is rusted together? I would have to see it, but it *should* be a collapsible one.
thanks for the video, i think i have to do the same. greetings from germany
Thank you!!!
Excellent compact tool for use in my truck. Ordered one! Thanks for your practical video.
@@Lordoftheflatbush thank you!!
What coolant did you say you used? I’ve been having a hard time finding the original green coolant these older Xj came with. I also have a 98 Xj that I daily drive and am working on building it up similar to yours. I enjoy your channel and your Xj 😎👍
I have been using the yellow "universal" coolant from Fram and Peak since I too have a hard time finding the old green coolant.
"Overcooling" missing thermostat?
@@o2wow no, it has the proper thermostat. Overcooking is not an issue for now.
Also do you have hood vents? I seem to remember your XJ does. What about some good spacers as well as vents?
@@BradMillsOK I have spacers, no vents yet but that may be in the future
I’m so lucky my 98 does not have the cooling issues. Seems some just have it and some don’t.
It looks like you had an upgraded fan clutch already. That is probably why the shroud wouldnt clear it...
@@danhambrick6331 might have been, was a parts store one I put in when I bought the xj
Have you ever checked out the calibration on the OEM temperature gauge ? Have you ever added in a new temp sensor and ran it to a Autometer Gauge to see if there OEM gauge or the OEM temp sensor, etc.
@@mitchschwartzburg3483 yeah, checked gauge and sender against another I had laying around.
What ball joints are those? And is that a stock axle?
I believe they were moog or rough country. I went on rock auto and ordered the one degree ball joints I needed. The axle is a factory Dana 30, but has been trussed, sleeved, and converted to manual locking hubs, 4.88 gears, and a spartan locker.
watching you under your jeep without eye wear gives me PTSD. Mine's so rusty it would be a certain eye injury.
Lucky for me my XJ is relatively rust free!! Thanks!!
Thanks Andy..Yeah for $20 that was a no brainer...
Yes, I was surprised by how good it was for $20.00! Thanks!! (Still recovering from hurricane, little to no internet right now. Still have videos queued up for the next few weeks, hopefully will have internet back up before I run out)
nice job, thats what i have to do next on my xj. greetings from germany.
Thank You!! Thanks for watching!!
Nice job Andy..Suprised you didnt go with BrownDog motor mounts....
@@danhambrick6331 I will go with the upgraded ones next time, I just happened to have that set of mounts on my shelf when I found the bad ones, so they got used. Thanks for watching!!
Thank goodness you are ok! Lots of cleanup though.
@@CarolBarker-q4j yes. It is one heck of a mess, but it could be worse. Thanks!!
Why did you have to narrow the cart?
Good Question, with several answers. I should have thought to include that in the video!! We use a Penske rental truck with a lift gate to transport all of the instruments and props to competitions, and the carts as they were had to be physically lifted onto the lift-gate and then physically held up as we maneuvered them into the truck. Now they roll onto the lift-gate and into the truck with no heavy lifting. Also, when kids stepped onto the carts from the sides they would start to tip. Finally, it makes it easier to get through all of the doors in the school.
Done! Great job getting all those carts built and built right.
Thank You!
11:53 Is it possible to route your intake tube (from the snorkel to the airbox) strait through the fender into the engine compartment? I know you would have to seal up the factory whole on the front side of the airbox and create a new hole in the rear of the air box, but, it sure seems like a better way of routing that hose.
It is possible, but on my Cherokee (1998) there is the computer and all of it's associated wire harness in the way. I would have had to relocate that, and it was just not worth the hassel. But if you got that out of the way, then you could run it right in.
@@ludercoarms thanks for the info
Man, I'm glad to see this video!! I gotta get some of those ball joints!!!!! It's good to see another "seasoned" fella such as myself banging on a XJ.... I stay busy with mine, it's kind of habit.
I stay busy on mine, I figure it's cheaper to keep fixing it than a car payment for something that will not be as capable!! Thanks!!
Nice job Andy...How is your alignment now??😁😁
Good to go now!! Thanks!!
May I inquire where you ordered the parts....that fit?
Found them on Ebay
27:50 Nice perspective on some giant treads. Another great video, thank you very much.
Thanks!!
Nice job Andy.I have been looking at the RedHead gear box for my 2001 XJ....
If I had to do it over again, that's what I would have used. The parts store rebuild is already starting to get crunchy.
Nice work! My steering box has been leaking since I bought my XJ. I bought a rebuild kit, just need to get around to installing it. Where did you buy your gearbox?
Local parts store rebuild. When it goes bad, which I suspect will be soon, I'll get a Redhead gear box.
Awesome job! How is it holding up? I’m looking at this kit and one from The Ram Man Inc.
So far no problems, I am very happy with it. Thanks!!
I gotta do this to mine. Not looking forward to it.
It's not too bad, just put a bunch of penetrating oil on the bolts and studs the night before and take your time.
@@ludercoarms yeah, I wondered about the bolts. Mine look pretty crusty, even for being a southern jeep with zero rust on the body.
@@marka.2715 you can get new ones, not a bad idea to have a set on standby, or just go ahead and replace them all.
11:30 for those who don't want to sit through history class.
🤣😂🤣 LOL history class!!
"It's great to have a safety margin above just enough. Adequate" is not going to be good if you get caught in traffic or there is an accident stopping traffic on a freeway you cannot get off. Another great upgrade video. All that and a 10mm socket too!
Thank You!!!
That looks like a nice radiator Andy.I hope it holds up for you...
We will see, it seems to be a pretty nice piece, the welds look pretty good on it. I hope to do an update on how many of the parts I have replaced have held up soon, just need to get past band competition season.
the $5 should be much more for your time.
Thank you for saying so!!
By far, the cleanest install I've seen yet. I just got my snorkel in the mail yesterday, and I'm nervous cutting a hole in the fender lol
Yeah, cutting the fender is scary. Just make sure to measure it all out and triple check before you do it. Thanks for watching!!
Great video, thank you!
Thanks for watching!!
Nice to see a job go smoothly. Checking the part, choosing the correct tools and completing the job, it isn't luck it's good planning.
It is nice when something goes right!!! Thanks!!
Nice job always easier with right tools!
Indeed!! Thanks for watching!!
One small tip I learned from someone else is to remove the fill plug first just in case you can’t get it out after you’ve drained the fluid and you wouldn’t be able to refill it.
Thanks for the video. Your music is annoying, have to go. Bye
Nice job Andy. That G2 cover is pretty slick...
It definitely makes the oil changes easier, and I like the magnetic drain plug catching any metal in the oil.
Another detailed and informative video.
Thank You!!
