Sorry, it was only a short stopover!

It was about 3pm on a very foggy day!

The beautiful wedding took place at Wormsloe. The reception appears to be at Garibaldi's, but I am only 97 percent positive. If you don't want to go anywhere where they were slaves then you should not come to Savannah, Atlanta, Charleston, Boston, Washington DC., New York, Williamsburg, Philadelphia or basically anywhere in the 13 colonies. Also, don't go to Rome or any territory of the Romans, Greeks, any of the middle east or Africa, much of Europe and Asia. Basically anywhere. Savannah is 56 percent black. Most blacks did not leave Savannah after the war, but stayed here. Our Mayor is black. For events like this the sets up, cooking and everything employs many black citizens who support their families and love Savannah as their home. Blacks also own venues and catering businesses. Its not nice to come to a wedding page and start talking about ancient events that we all have corrected. It spoils someone's wedding page. As a white person who was born and raised here and lives in a 30 percent black neighborhood we all consider black and white citizens to BOTH be a part of our culture and critically important. We blend African, English, Spanish and Caribian as well as native American into this southern culture. I am glad to live here. We all agree that slavery is an abomination. I try to imagine the city in an alternative universe. It would not be the same country at all. The food, music, arts science and really everything would be inferior. The black cultural contributions to America are rich and wonderful. Wormsloe is now a state park and protected.

@@55robinwood Ok Well said and I understand where you’re coming from. I’m not from the South. Second generation Californian . First time to the south. I enjoyed visiting Savannah and Wormsloe . I learned the early history of the original Jones colonist at Wormsloe which was and how they used the Native American shell mounds to in their waddle and dob building and so forth . really interesting. However, I was struck by the complete and total lack of mention of the slavery there. Totally ridiculous and it affected me as I walked through the woods with my Black partner. So, okay , nice place. Glad you feel the blending of colors and cultures is smooth and happy. But with zero mention of that part of the history in their video tour and with men carrying torches in Charlottesville and rampaging the Capitol some with confederate flags…. I shake my head. Maybe that’s not you. I get it. But I don’t see us as a nation really healed yet. The first step is honesty and acknowledgment. I would like to see whoever runs Wormsloe to take that into consideration. Happy wedding Peace and love.

@@jazzzgrlj Black history here IS Savannah. It is parallel to English history here. So I am attaching a link to a video which is excellent on Blacks and their participation as workers on Wormsloe. I have listened to all parts (Four). I am sure your partner would enjoy. The tour guide is black and I can tell he really knows his stuff and takes pride in sharing what he knows about both black freemen and slaves and their relationships. We have many black tour guides who are extremely knowledgeable and own their own tour businesses. Should you visit again, I highly recommend this young man. Did you go to Pin Pinpoint, Ga which is within the County and only a short distance from Wormsloe? That is where the great Justice Clarence Thomas is from and was born. He was raised in Savannah where his grandparents gave him an excellent private Catholic school education. Pin point was established by free blacks (Savannah and the county had many free blacks prior to the civil war who worked for both whites and other blacks who owned businesses). Pin point is still lived in by some of the descendants of those free blacks who established it, and whites live there as well now a days. Did you visit Savannah State University? It is a very fine State supported University which was established in 1896 for blacks exclusively. In fact blacks could get four year university degrees locally in Savannah 65 years before whites could! That made for a large group of highly educated black citizenry here in Savannah. I grew up hearing their football games from my house. Two of thier strongest programs are biology where most of the students plan on being doctors and engineering. It is an historically black university and still mostly black students go there. The campus is historic and stunning. I live in that part of town so enjoy talking to the students. I hope you also visited Mother Matilda Park. She was left her husband's entire estate (he was a black man who dealt in the buying and selling of slaves and owned several other businesses too.) They were pious Catholics and she was born a slave and bought by him. He was already Catholic and she converted before marriage. She became a nun after his death. By then then civil war was over. She started the first orphanage in the USA for black orphaned girls! We have a whole Park dedicated to her. By the way, I taught at California State University for 27 years. I found the slavery and mal treatment of Indigenous people by the Spanish and White American Californians to be abhorrent too. As a woman, I am shocked to remember my own grandmother could not vote until she was 21. These are old wounds. Some people want to dwell on them. Others want to act right and good and move on and are happy to live in a country which legally corrected it all (no one can stop the way bad people think). Savannah was described by Martin Luther King as the most integrated city in the USA, back in the 60s. We have never ever had a KKK and there is no BLM chapter here. We don't need bad behavior. Blacks and whites here do not want riots so we don't have them. I think we do the best job in the USA and certainly better than what I saw in California. One summer in the mid 1960s there were some sit ins downtown. Very quietly the city business owners decided it was time to desegregate and they did. By the time I was 15 in 1966, I was slipping shoes on black customers' feet in Levy's department store on Broughton Street. That was my first job. No place is perfect, but we do very well here. St Louis and Charlottesville and Portland and Seattle, and other places that had riots for a couple of years could look towards Savannah as a way to get along well. I love living in this 56 percent black city right near our proud historically black university. I am glad we could help produce people like Mother Matilda and Clarence Thomas and many others. Roads and Churches and more in California were built in part by indigenous people forced to convert and work. Asians came to California as slaves as well. Up and down the east coast both paid and enslaved blacks help build as well. It is history. Watch this great tour guide. Try to think about all the great things blacks have done and are doing now. why do Kansas Citians want to constantly remind STL of this? I'm a native born KCMO resident and even I'm not that stuck up my own ass. STL has charm and its own beauty, let it be. It never said it was a growing booming metropolis.

@@shakazulu365 The St. Louis metro area is vastly larger than the Kansas City metro. The STL metro is rapidly growing. Both cities have their share of culture to enjoy. I hate the bullheaded regional rivalry mindset. Both have their ups and downs, both are well worth visiting. Pride in an area of land is stupid.

@shaka zulu I’ve been to both I personally prefer St. Louis but thats just my opinion, both have their ups and downs, you’re trying to argue opinions as fact.
