The 11 minutes that ruined Hollywood producer Allan Carr's career forever
Просмотров 2,4 млн7 лет назад
From over 30 years ago - This is the infamous opening song and dance number to the March 29, 1989 awards show, with Rob Lowe singing to Snow White, dancing tables and so much more. This bombed so badly that the show's producer, Allan Carr (who made the movie GREASE) found himself shunned by Hollywood, and spent the next decade in relative seclusion until his death from liver cancer in 1999. Gre...
TIL : Rob Lowe can’t sing
I think the problem with this piece was it was 100% earnest. If someone had added a touch of irony, archness, self-deprecation, the way Neil Patrick Harris or Billy Crystal might, it would have made a huge difference.
Look, I've seen a lot of stupid stuff on the internet - this just isn't stupid enough to be so infamous. Is it bad? Sure, but there are so many better and truly terrible trainwrecks.
I LOVE it....💓
I don't know Mr. Carr . But after watching this I have an impression of him being a British gay person.
This was entertaining, I don't see what all the hate is about. It was cute and flamboyant.
OMG!!😮😮I saw this when it was first broadcasted,,, this was awful!!
Outside of the awful singing from Lowe and Snow and some choreography gaffs, this seemed like pretty typical Broadway fare. Except for this at 9:44. What the fuck even is this? Other than that not sure why people hate it with such a passion.
Well one could argue John Travolta is no singer either.
I don't get it. It was a lavish Hollywood production, just like all the one's that came before.
Why people say this is bad.?
Lilly!
I'd be interested in knowing how the process of selecting the 'stars of the Golden Age' took place. It's an odd assortment of Hollywood legends, to be sure. It almost looks as though it came down to an issue of "who can we get?' as opposed to "who do we want?" In any case, my hat goes off to them for their participation; I hope it was a worthwhile experience for them.
I enjoyed it. Maybe it was the nostalgia of it but I thought it was fun. Maybe a better choice than Rob Lowe but other than that I liked it
So watching through this…yeah I can see why a good chunk of people didn’t like it. It’s tacky and camp but it’s a lot of fun too. At the time the Oscars were getting very banal so this kind of shook things up a bit.
It was like watching an accident unfolding! It’s horrific but you can’t stop watching 👀
I can hear it now. "i got the part? Awesome. What's my costume?" A table with two chairs a lamp and a couple of plates. Lol
I saw it LIVE ..Hollywood I enjoy Snow's Falsetto..
This wasn't that bad. I don't get what the outrage over it was.
What do you want for FREE!!!!!!!! After the show, Eileen Bowman (As Snow White) was forced to sign a gag order NOT to talk about the show for 13 years. In 2013 she finally spoke about her experience. "It was like a gay bar mitzvah."
Can u pick out the 80s diddy 😂😂😂😂
This makes Grease look like an Ingmar Bergman joint. What was Carr thinking?
I don't get it. It's fine.
2:24 The tribute to the greats of Hollywood, like Cyd Charisse and Vincent Price was very nice. I think if they had kept it focused on that theme it might not have been so poorly remembered. (I had no idea that Merv Griffin could sing!)
He wasn't that good at singing
_"Rob Lowe..."_ *_"Take it outside."_* *_"Take it outside."_* *_"Take it outside."_* *_"Don't you ever sing in public again..."_* -Dana Carvey, in a Saturday Night Live skit with Lowe as a guest host.
Cringeworthy ode to cocaine, hollowood, and all the flashy plastic mess that was the 80's LOL
this is nothing i love the glitz the glamour
Maybe it's just me but I enjoyed this. I'd go see it if it were in theatre.
This all happened to me once.
The comments of old conservative farts never fail to fill me with amusement 😂 you haven’t watched an awards show in 50 years bc Hollywood is Godless and evil, why bother to look at this.
This is not good, but this is not terrible. Why does it have to be one or the other?
Omg cringe on another planet of cringe in a galaxy of cringe inside a black cringe hole
Nothing ruined Allan Carr's career ,Madonna and Gaga ruined their own acting careers.
I prefer watching this over an overpriced bum slapping the be Jesus out of a comic over a stupid joke
What's with the dancing tables? 😂
I like it 😅
So this was like 8 months after Rob's infamous home video came out and they decided to have him open at the Oscars? And sing on top of it? With Snow White in case people forgot the age of the girl in the video? I wonder how that got green lit.
7:46 Robert Downey Jr. Look high AF! 😂😂
Unhinged
This is fantastic. Rob is miscast here but this is amazing work.
She's still a more convincing Snow White than Rachel Zegler!
It’s pretty awful. Beyond tacky. I haven’t even gotten through the whole thing and I guess it’s time to go feed the animals…
This shit is corny af. 🤣
Cyd Charisse looked amazing! 😍
That actually wasn't as terrible as people claim. It represented Hollywood perfectly. Cheesy, over the top and sometimes not much sense made.
Since then we have seen worse. !
Rob Lowe really thought he could sing. OY!
Merv Griffin hit an all-time career low with this one.
The coconuts song was what made him famous at the start of his career. It was an in-joke here.
A better Snow White than the upcoming Disney live movie. 😮😂😂😂😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😂😂
idk I thought it was endearing. The very corny setup and presentation comes across as the most adorable thing you can see a bunch of grown adults do. The stars doing their little dance it so cartoony and silly that its genuinely enjoyable
