The 11 minutes that ruined Hollywood producer Allan Carr's career forever
Просмотров 2,2 млн7 лет назад
From over 30 years ago - This is the infamous opening song and dance number to the March 29, 1989 awards show, with Rob Lowe singing to Snow White, dancing tables and so much more. This bombed so badly that the show's producer, Allan Carr (who made the movie GREASE) found himself shunned by Hollywood, and spent the next decade in relative seclusion until his death from liver cancer in 1999. Gre...
Well at least the shows were glamorous and expensive . Today it all looks so cheap with no innovation at all.
Been on a Snow White kick lately and I was avoiding this one like the plague
I remember watching this live with the others in my college dorm lounge. We were all so confused. We thought we had the wrong station, and when Rob Lowe and Snow sang, a group of 4-5 came in and thought it was an SNL skit, mocking the Oscars. His singing is worse than William Huang and Snow White was so fucking annoying and kept singing outbof key. Lily Tomlin intro was abysmal. This is so much worse than I remember. What an absolute 💩show.
It’s the weirdest fever dream of all time 😂
i see robin williams </3
It's hammy and camp but isn't that what Hollywood is all abt?! I see nothing controversial here.
A bunch of A List celebrities faces saying " WHAT THE.... ?"
Blind date Raw Blow..
I don't see nothing wrong, I loved it all .
Hollywood is a sham.
It makes me somehow think of the opening ceremony of Paris 2024. I enjoyed watching it even if it felt disjointed because, at least, it was not too serious and it was different.
We watched this back in the day and I still don’t get why this is “horrible” The Snow White role gets far too much time…that would be my only criticism. I honestly liked seeing the older generation getting a final bow.
Fever dream vibes
Truly ahead of its time. With the right cast, this opening would do great in 2025.
Ugh. This is so bad.
Omg it’s not that bad compared to most of the garbage we see today.
It seems very 80s to me. It's not bad at all. Have nods to big names, brought music into it. It was the 80s 🤷♀️
I prefer this so much more from what they have had in recent years. No politics just Hollywood fun
Also this is something my ten year old can watch with me too. Hard to find that todays world of TV
I don't understand all the hate. I've seen E3s that were worse
Hmm... the Old Timey's Oscars?!?
even cheesy is better than woke
So what’s wrong with the show? 🤔
what do you mean he got blackballed for this, i can See the choreographer having fun this is sick nasty
Still better than snow brown
I feel this is where nicole parker got inspiration for her disney girl madtv character.
At least Rob D. Jr. was very likely high as a kite.
Kinda sad he gets blackballed for a bad production and rapists and abusers keep their careers. Which can make a comeback and which makes filming unsafe for everyone involved in the process
I didn't think it was so bad, the dancers were amazing.
Oh mah gahsh... this was a travesty.
Okay but listen to a different version of “I only have eyes for you”. Try the platters or even Rod Stewart. Snow White’s rendition was… charming? But if you knew the song…. a little rough 😂
Was it really that bad? Taste is subjective.
Reminds me of Kamala at a political rally.
i like when the samba dancers said ITS SAMBAING TIME and came out and crashed the stage
Seems like all the other stupid ass hollywood shit...
I don’t find it that bad. It’s just very 80s. It’s of it’s time. What I do find bizarre is Snow White beings lightly sexual and dancing singing rock songs. That’s just out of character and wrong. I’ve see worse Oscar’s openings in recent times. The Oscar’s is one of those things that no one can seem to get right: by it’s nature it’s cheesy and weird. That so much hype is made about all sorts of people and places that are worshipped that shouldn’t be. Rob Lowe is so weirdly out of place here. I suppose that’s what was considered an “up and coming star” in 1989. He was gorgeous but he never really made it as a big movie star. He had a better TV career.
It's all of them.......
And then Lily Tomlin comes out looking like she just rolled out of bed and needs to go get coffee.
It's elaborately odd
Bob Hope @7:45.
Did I miss something. It looked no better or worse than nearly every Olympic Opening Ceremony that I have ever watched (apart from London 2012)
Was this supposed to be intentionally cringy? If so, it was genius. Otherwise, they could've done just as well with Donnie and Marie.
Anyone know the name of the red headed singer doing a fantastic proud mary?
I don't get it. It's cheesy dumb award show song and dance junk....so it seems par for the course for this type of event. What is sombad about it?
Wow. The world has changed. Back then one was still allowed to be blond in public 😂
Regardless of how wacky the opening was - Snow White nailed it and saved it from being an even greater train wreck. She understood the assignment 100%
You have to wonder what he was smoking at the time. But even so, as hysterical as it was, he didn't deserve to get shunned for the rest of his lfe for it.
Wasn't so bad.... kind of cheesy but I've seen worse on Oscars Emmys Golden Globes and especially the Tony Awards nice seeing a lot of the old Stars too most of whom are now gone
Looks as cringey creepy tacky like all the other crap awards shows.
Maybe what really 'Bombed" was Hollywood being bombarded by elderly stars... with the hidden message, of one day you too will be old and out of work.
I'm sorry, but Allan Carr shouldnt have lost his career and Eileen Bowmans shouldnt have been red listed because of this. It was just a campy entrance. Not that big of a deal
