    Possibly the worst video I’ve seen not only have you no idea how it works but you got a drill out to unscrew the cover omg absolutely not the way to service anything

    • @dark1stu
      @dark1stu 27 дней назад

      For a start, it's not a drill it's on low power screwdriver design for working on small electronic equipment after working in the electronics industry for over 30+ years, I would agree that I don't have a clue what I'm doing , perhaps you can do with better job , I look forward to watching your video on how to repair one of these. Thank you.

    I Also noticed the incoming live Cable was connected to the ring on the fuse holder not the base meaning you could get electrocuted as you unscrewing the fuse the green wire should be the incoming so when you remove the fuse there is not an exposed live conductor

    Great effort. Using flux will help you flow the solder. Watch Joey Does Tech to see the technique. But bravo for your new SMD skills

    • @dark1stu
      @dark1stu Месяц назад

      Yes it will but what I was aiming with this video was to do this without using the specialist tools that were sitting to the right of me . Normally I would use flux, solder paste and a hot air station, but my aim with this video was to build it with tools that the average amateur might have to hand , I believe it's important for new people to get into this trade of electronics at the amateur level and do you understand it's not a scary or difficult as it may come across when you see somebody using all the fancy tools .

    Do yourself a favour and use an ap like electronics tool kit, it'll tell you any SMD resistor values from the number on them, and it also does a lot, lot more, like regular resistors by band colours, inductor values, IC pinouts, etc... It's invaluable when you want to know something like this at the drop of a hat without the need to break out the multimeter. Quick tip, for SMD components, tin one pad, use a tweezers to place the component and reflow the tined pad to the component and adjust as needed. Then solder the other end of the component. For ICs do the same thing but solder two pins at opposite ends of the IC, then solder all the other pins in between.

    I've just bought a non functional 1710, no preamp output, quite cheaply. I'm hoping for a switch issues and a a recap to bring it back to life. I hope it's a relatively easy fix as I want to use it as part of my home studio.

    • @dark1stu
      @dark1stu Месяц назад

      I would check to see all the valves are glowing as a starting point whilst it will not tell you that they are definitely good if they're not going there definitely bad , if all of them are not going, you've lost the heater power , the other thing I would advise would be cleaning all of the switches and potentiometers before getting into it too deeply , ask quite often oxidation in switches and potentiometers can cause quite interesting issues

      My argument to them is that it was NOT designed to be a travel speaker, that this was an obvious flaw. Someone is going to drop it. That's what happens when you travel, so it kindof exposes a lack of foresight of the designers. They could care less, of course.

But at the jobsite I’m currently at, the home owners have two German shepards and I’ve been sanding oak stair treads. So wicked fine dust and dog hair. Vac wasn’t happy. Took apart and stuck a coat hanger down each tine. Purrs like a kitten now.

    Nice video... I'm trying to stick Windows on one... any idea which drivers are the newest yet stable? Using the boot camp version seems to work, but they are very old... but the latest AMD drivers caused constant crashing... I know there are several version in between Apple's last bootcamp version and the last AMD... but it would be nice to know which one to use. I've already wasted hours restoring it 2 different times after killing it with various newer drivers.
