Nice one man. A few more years, few more shears, perhaps sone beers and probably tears and it should come out a true broom style elm and thing of beauty. .. Idk why but I've always had a thing for good broom style bonsai. And Chinese elm does broom style very well. Though tbh I see alot of "broom style Chinese elm tree bonsai" getting around that certainly aren't what I'd consider a genuine broom style at all. More just young trees roughly, poorly trimmed into a ball or dome shape mass of leaves and twigs. Often the primary branches don't even come from a single point like that. And to me there's really nothing impressive about them at all and seem to be trees they just couldnt work out what else to do with them so just have a rough prune now and then. And I think people instinctively see that even those who know little about bonsai forms or new enthusiasts just learning then tend to often write off the whole broom style as unimpressive and low skill and not something even worth trying or pursuing, cept they too get some ugly little stump and can't do much else with it too nd perpetuate the cycle. Which is disappointing ti me cause as i say I love it but only when done well, it's a very natural style that demoninstrates how mighty and powerful and symmetrical and perfect and beautiful some trees can grow in open meadows and ideal conditions. And perhaps induces more memories abd feelings of home abd childhood, family erx than the rugged gnarled and twisted old conifers from high in the mountain peaks may do necessarily.... being as not so many of us live and grow up above the treeline of huge mountains, running around playing on the cliffs and flying kites in the freezing gales. :)) Anyway apologies for the long rant. But I always enjoy seeing people putt8ng the effort in creating nice broom style trees over time so good job and I hope someday I can see an update when it's well along the way.
