Say Hello To My Little Film: Episode 113 - Pink Flamingos
In what go down as their most controversial episode yet, Rob throws Ray the curveball of his life by recommending John Waters' (CRY BABY, CECIL B. DEMENTED) infamous 1972 dark comedy PINK FLAMINGOS.
In this John Waters classic, Divine (HAIRSPRAY, FEMALE TROUBLE) plays Babs Johnson who has been dubbed the "The Filthiest Person Alive" by the tabloids becomes the target of the Marbles, a jealous couple who oversee a baby mill filled with kidnapped women. As the war of trash escalates, Divine and the Marbles come face to face in a climax that has to be seen to be believed. This counterculture classic put John Waters on the map and helped create the "Midnight Movie" by running in Los Angeles fo...

    What are the stakes? Simply put, in the dystopian world of RPO, the Oasis is Internet gone full-VR. The world has gone for the worse, strangled into a permanent economical and energetical crisis, with epidemic starvation and a dozen of active local wars. Most part of humanity has retreated its social life, work, boureocracy, politics and instruction system into the Oasis, which access is free by specific design of his Steve-Jobs-like inventor. An entire generation (the missing millions) had known nothing else than the Oasis in their entire life (from asylum to university, and also for their social relationships). A bunch of big corporations have tried to take over the GSS (Gregorious Games System, the society that owns the Oasis) and put charges on its use, cutting away a large part of poor that are unable to pay. When the creator dies of cancer without a legitimate heir, his last will is that the winner of a egg hunting contest designed by himself will inherit the GSS and so the Oasis (along with several hundred billions dollars, a unbelievably rich treasure, considering the dismal status of world economy). The egg is hidden somewere in the Oasis, which includes ten of thousands of fully developed worlds. He gives an initial hint to find the first of three keys , which unlocks three gates, and finally get the egg. For common people searching the egg, finding it is, simply put, the only way to secure their freedom. They have nowhere else to go to live a decent life, except the Oasis. The "bad corporation" , or IOI (Innovvative Online Industries) try to conquest the egg and so gain possession over the Oasis, using every dirty trick made possible by having a lot of money, and zero consideration for human life in general... ;D The story reverts on Wade Watts, a common boy with an obesssion for the hunt, his friends (virtual friends), and his fight against the corporation to finally get the egg. Very much like a good old 80' flick.

    1. Its Chuck Lorre, pronounced (Lauree) 2. He was NOT behind Will & Grace 3. You're prejuding a show, with a ton of misses based off a 1 minute trailer 4. Watch the episodes before you determine if Kathy was being wasted and doesn't have many avenues and layers to the show 5. It's shot in front of a LIVE audience. Not canned laughter.

    Just a little background on the show if you guys are interested. The characters are based on real life profilers John Douglas and Robert Ressler. I'm guessing this is about their work in researching and establishing behavioral profiles. I liked hearing your comments on the trailer, I'm a bit of a true crime buff, so I liked hearing it from a different perspective. Have to disagree on one point though, some of those shots seemed like they had Fincher all over it. The color palette and lighting, the shot of the criminal behind a fence ("hello ladies") reminded me of the scene in Zodiac where they talk to Arthur Leigh Allen.

  • @d.j.scribe7584
    @d.j.scribe7584 7 лет назад

    Great job guys. Truly. And my apologies for this tome but as a fan - I wasn't just sorely disappointed by Covenant, I was pretty upset. However much I was looking forward to loving it. At some point, someone somewhere, whether it's Scott or anyone in this project, needed to ask themselves, if the story is [within the confines of fiction], believable or feasible. Fiction or not, a story sucks if it doesn't entice you, if it doesn't give you that immersion a good story feeds its audience. Period. Too far fetched or one depicting cliche things that everyone has already gotten bored of watching is just plain lazy. How they dare scribble a story involving the level of incompetence these characters all possess and half-ass writing it conveys, is just ridiculous to the point of being offensive. Even setting aside the whole alien mythology. The practical sense of this movie is in-existent. Let's see, the Weyland corporation or whoever, spent billions if not trillions on think-tanking a Colonizing Mission, that is, probably the most important one ever known to man, which includes 2000 sleeping souls and 1000 or so other embryos along with 6 or 8 nincompoops, to some unknown side of the universe, in a gaziilion dollar spaceship, which btw brakes a nail, sorry, sail while charging [don't get me started on the technology shown here and massive lack of imagination for it], and entrusted this group of reterds to oversee and spearhead said mission? I mean, even overlooking the shitty acting, there is ZERO sense of urgency or even common sense from ANY of the characters on this script. From scrapping a perfectly planned mission which took years to develop, to saying "let's take a closer look" and then doesn't look but LANDS on an unknown/uncharted/untested/un-surveyed planet, taking ZERO biological precautions or troop protection whatsoever. The crewman that just got there but suddenly has to a take "a piss", which is "Scott" for: lemme go get a smoke and be the 1st ahole to pollute what appears to be the 1st perfect planet we've come across. How'bout not a single person, for a split second, becomes at all suspicious of a teammate's less-than-perfect condition/response? No quarantine protocols followed, no fail-safes, no redundancies, communications break up randomly and people lack basic tools just to suit the movie plot/suspense or the lack thereof? All this technology and no one thought of deploying a remote satellite for comms? Oh wait, that would ruin the stupid script we settled on. No common sense basically, in any part of the movie. Of course they couldn't film ONE alien movie that didn't involve hovering the getaway ship long enough for the Xeno to climb on board. What does the triple-doctorate dumbass decide to do, sling on a rope and shoot at it while also shooting at the ship? Cool. The incompetence portrayed by pretty much every single character in this movie, is just unprecedented, at least in any respectable film. They should've just sent the cast of Journey to the Center of the Earth - oh wait, they actually might've succeeded. I know it's a science fiction movie, but it's a kick in the teeth for us, the fan base, to want to bullsh*t us with just dumbass writing you've already done on previous Alien movies, and 100 other directors have clichéd on 1000 other movies we've seen with the exact same utterly moronic writing. I mean, you [Captain] just witnessed a synthetic try to protect an alien that just beheaded one of your crew, yet he invites you down a dark cave to show you something? No problemo. Since I'm already here, let's go caress an egg and then stick my head into it when it mysteriously opens up because the same traitor droid "assured" me it's perfectly safe? Don't mind if I do. WTF? Last one: Here you have the Engineer Race, welcoming back a "jacked" ship carrying David & Shaw - no authentication codes, just let them in our airspace, everyone waving, yay, they're back? I mean this is the race that CREATED the Perfect Organism, and outsiders just barge in and unleash the virus upon them, which btw if they're THE Engineers, you'd think they use a virus that's inert to their race. Just sayin - humans are a cool creation, have the common courtesy of giving the Engineers SOME wits. At every turn of this movie, you have to question WTF Scott & Co were thinking, if at all, about the script. The lack of an actual story is ever-present because the script completely destroys its execution. It's this kind of disregard for the audience's intelligence and our expectation of being smartly entertained and immersed into a worthy movie, that sets me off. It's almost as if they spent years on developing an awesome movie plot and script, and then, at the very last month before shooting, they have a party, all get high and decide to re-write the whole movie with Covenant. Yup - that's what happened.

    This is a case where not knowing the source material destroys any review. The point of the book is the pop culture references. If you aren't OK with that, you won't be OK with the movie. The references were under-represented. The movie should have much more of it. I'm not saying that it should have unconditional love for the final product, or that skepticism is a bad thing (this movie does have some skeptical aspects showing up, but not for the reasons mentioned here.), but it's more a case of the source material being strong enough to have faith in. And you're totally overdoing it on the Spielberg thing. The Spielberg connection, even with him being the director, is not that big of a deal. In other words, the source material is the reason to give it the benefit of the doubt, not Spielberg's connection. And this was called a "teaser" and not just a "trailer" for a reason. Even if it does end up being just someones voice, what does it matter? None of the actors in this movie other than Simon Pegg and Ben Mendelsohn mean anything. They're nobodies. Yes, even Tye Sheridan. But, congratulations on trying to find any and every way to hate what you saw. There is a difference between being objective and hunting for reasons to have doubts. For example: Suckerpunch. No clue at all why that would pop to your head. Even with the explanation given. If you mean the level of CGI, there will be as much, if not more. But the amount doesn't matter. It's how it's used. yeah, I'm grumpy today. Does it show? :) Below this, point ,I'll answer your questions. If they were rhetorical , or just voicing what questions you want future trailers to answer, don't read past here. * Those weren't police. Those were other players. No police in this teaser. There is no race in the book. It was made for the movie. So, don't get hung up on what part of the teaser too much. Other than the symbolism of the whole thing basically being a race to win the hunt. The Charlie & The Chocolate Factory reference is valid, since they even use the song "Pure Imagination," from Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, in this teaser. And expect most of the movie to be in the Oasis. Depending on what they change from the source material), 75--80% of the movie will probably end up being in the Oasis. The game (the Oasis) is where everyone lives their lives. The whole world basically live inside the game. It's ultimately a place where everyone lives their lives. They go to school in the Oasis, they shop there, they meet people, fall in love, marry, all without ever meeting someone in the real world. Your speculation about the stakes was right, of sorts. Not taking into account changes from the book to the screen, the IOI folks are a corporation who want to win the Easter egg hunt, so they control the Oasis and they can monetize it to death. In the book, anyone can make an Oasis account for a one time fee of 25 cents (the 80's cost needed to play an arcade game), and there is no advertising allowed. The final analysis of what to expect is when you merge those last two paragraphs: everyone lives in the game, but not everyone is in a race to win the egg hunt. It's just comparable to a quest in an MMO game. You can do it, you can opt to not do it, whatever you want. So, you do end up finding and making friends, but they don't have to be friends whose whole intent is to just combine forces to win the hunt. In fact, in the game, most serious hunters (well, gunters, as in egg hunters, but that's really stupid sounding, to be honest.) do the actual things related to the hunt solo. Imagine it being the same as today's real world fight over net neutrality. In regards to MoCap, expect a lot. As a sort of example to the level they will do, one of the main characters is the ogre-type driving the monster truck. It's the in-game character for the character that Lena Waithe plays.

      Agreed! We both just hoped for something way more fun than what we ultimately got (both being fans of Luc Besson). It was odd the casting choices he went with. The chemistry between most of the cast (Especially Dane and Cara) was simply non-existent. I've seen an article since we filmed this review saying they're looking at making at least two more. I'll be surprised if that actually happens. Thanks for watching! I checked out your page and you guys do great stuff! I went ahead and subscribed. The private boats helped but the vast majority were in fact picked up by destroyers. The destroyers could not get far enough in at first so a very long pier was used to load the men on the destroyers the Germans saw this and bombed the pier. The idea of using trucks in line enabled troops to walk out over the trucks to the ships. D Day would have been much tougher without 400,000 troops but it was in fact the Battle of Britain air war just after Dunkirk that prevented Germany invading Britain.

    I feel the same. I didn't finish the series, but I had loved what I had read. I might stream it too.

    Tom Holland was great. it was pretty much what I had expected the movie to be. I love Keaton as the villan. I was surprised how little RDj was in it.

    So where did the aliens from "alien vs predator" come from if the predators used them on an ancient race of humans that had pyramids in Antarctica ?

    Good point, that's super bad storytelling. Like the main character dies in between books? It also seems like the main protag is always going to be easy to point out, just look for the same stock skinny fit white female actor (no offense). And Spoiler Alert... unless something goes wrong with the ship and Daniels gets knocked out of her cryo-pod, which has proven to be quite difficult, or Walter comes back, then there's no reason for this character to survive for the next Alien movie either.

      Great point about Daniels! I see no need for them to continue her character on their current track. It sucks that they seemed to try so hard to just make her "Ripley" instead of cultivating a new and interesting character. It definitely reads as simply a device to try and sell the old school Alien fans on this film. Put it down next to the lie of a tone they set up in the trailer! Thanks for watching and commenting!

      At this point, I think it's a comfort level for him. His fighting in the trenches days are over and he can do more or less what he wants. A commenter above made a great point about filmmakers from Scott's generation having trouble adapting to the modern digital age. The limitations of their youth ultimately made them more creative. Now, the sky is the limit. There is no need for them to edit their ideas because they have the time and resources to make it a reality. Sadly, more often than not it ends up producing a vapid and overblown result. It's sad since Alien and Blade Runner both rank in my top 10 favorite films of all time. Thanks for watching and commenting!
