I am making videos to publish with my book called _The work of our hands: Sign Language interpreting in Jewish settings [Ashkenaz]_. Not all of the signs are Jewish, but they will appear in my ASL translation of Jewish prayers, which is a work in progress that you can see at www.theinterpretersfriend.com/jushscrpts/twooh/intro.html
Here is a list of the signs that appear on this video so that you can see if any of them might be of interest to you. Some will be relevant to my translation of songs on my website www.theinterpretersfriend.com/songs/toc.html and some might be of general interest. This collection would be too overwhelming as a way to learn Jewish signs, so if that is your intent...

I see you're signing "King" for Malach. That is interesting. I considered Malach more the present-tense of "to reign," because in Hebrew it can be both. Hence where interpretation comes in. Yours makes sense. I will need to look up if King is the same sign for all kings or just in a Jewish sense (I watched an different video of yours and saw you used this to describe King David/Solomon".
Hello, I am in an ASL class and for a final project we have to sign a song, poem, story, etc. I want to do Adon Olam. I am so happy there is a rendering out there to get ideas from! Before I found this, I looked up a few signs at the start (like "reign/master") and I see you using that, and I "Hashem", and I can make out a few others, but I am just so wondering about your interpretation. I Don't want to just memorize what you're doing but rather understand what each sign is. and why you chose them like you did. I wonder if there is any helpful way I could get a breakdown of how you chose the signs you did? Obviously there is both translation and interpretation involved with rendering something into another language. I want to do it justice. I also want to teach it to my kids when we sing together.
Shame it isn’t in BSL.
Does anyone have a Jewish sign for Babylon?
This is so amazing to see these Jewish signs. I am going to interpret in Israel for Deaf friends March 2022, and Im sure these signs will help us!
Thanks for your hard work!!!
Does anyone know where I could find a video of Jewish signs in British Sign Language? I'm having such a hard time finding any and it's making me sad.
Thank you for watch And learn sign language almost same American too . . God bless Jewish people also Christian people too . Praise The Lord Amen 🙏 Hallelujah 👏🏻👍🏻❤️👌😍🇮🇱
Would you be willing to do the Shema in BSL please?
This video is a blessing!

Kohen is from Star Trek
The other way around lol
No, it's the other way around. Leornard Nimoy was Jewish and saw the hand gesture used during the Priestly Blessing when he was a child. Years later he copied it for Spock.
my only complaint is that the signs aren't repeated, which would be useful.also how about a yiddish version ?
Is this international sign or ASL?
ASL
How would you sign MENSCH?

Barouch Hachem, Todah rabba.
Oh! And I wanted to say: I can use this for my class on Saints. We are studying Francis. Your signing is wonderful: the audio, not so much. May I suggest you re-post this with better quality sound? Then it would be perfect!
I love this. The fellow doing the signing is talented and delightful, and the gestures are like a dance.
Thank you for these videos. I am Jewish and studying to be an interpreter:)

RIP David..I am so sad I never thanked you for all the hard work you provided to interpreters. I often go to your website when I need to increase my skills or looking for technical support in a specific area. It is with deep sadness to say Good Bye.
It is with sad regrets to inform all those who have loved and benefited from Dave's teachings that he as passed away on January 14th, 2009. MANY will sorely miss him. May he be God's interpreter in heaven!
