I am a Canadian artist who specializes in lithographic and relief printmaking. I am sharing work in progress videos for people to get an inside look at the process that goes into my prints. I also enjoy sharing the results of my home lithography experiments for anyone that may be interested.
I try to upload videos on a regular basis, but it's really based on when I find time for editing.
Enjoy!

Unwound - The tiniest stone litho I have attempted... yet.
Small things have their own challenges. I am used to working in miniature in wood engraving. And I'm no stranger to small lithos, but this is the smallest stone litho I have challenged to date. The image size is about 3" x 1". I find that working on this scale, there is no way to adapt to any "mistakes" - you have to get it right on the first go. In the end, I am happy with this little man, especially after the addition of a second layer, which will be featured in a future video.
Happy printing and thanks as always for the support!

It's an offset plate right???
@@TheLujan100 offset plate usually refers to a photosensitive litho plate where an image is exposed. This one is similar, but you draw directly on the surface of the plate to make the image.
Cool! Good job
@@Tre_Di Thanks!
Hi! I love your video! I was wondering where you got your graining puck from. I'm just starting my at-home litho practice, and I'm having trouble sourcing materials
@@waywardh9528 I know some lithographers have purchased solid steel pucks from metal/hardware suppliers and used those. I got mine from Takach Press in the US.
@@waywardh9528 And yay for at-home litho!!

@@vincentbasquiat2501 Thank you! Yes, I made a couple of different versions. One version is a unique copy printed on a white paper. valerie-syposz.myshopify.com/products/dreamscape-ii And then there is a very small edition of 3 on the Kitakata paper (the natural yellowosh tone) of which there is one available.

where can I find/buy ball grain plates?
@@gone96 What part of the world?
@@valeriesyposz europe
@ I know you can get them from Lemonade Press in the UK, but that’s probably not ideal for continental Europe. It might be worth asking on the “lithography” or “printmaking presses and equipment” Facebook pages.
This is awesome! Looks like this foil works better than the ones you have used before! Am I right?
@@sarmakarsiere So strangely enough, it seems that Sainsbury foil has a very short shelf-life. The prints I made in the first couple of weeks were phenomenal, but when I went back to it 1 month later it was terrible. Exact same drawing materials, ink, and etch and background pick up all over. I did multiple tests to check everything and it was the foil in question. Other foils will last months, if not years, once opened. Just because of that, I have veered away from it to another local brand.
@ interesting!! Thank you for sharing!💝
Summer of 2014 I learned how to be successful at K. Lithography. It takes practice. I learned from the French teacher and inventor of KL. I ordered a booklet and literally worked all summer. Successfully creating prints for my UG Art and Design graduation show. I find it easier to hand print rather than using the press. 😂
@@phyllisjeanfulton Wonderful! I studied traditional lithography and ball grained plate lithography at university. Probably because of that background, kitchen lithography worked right from the start (I treat it very much like plate lithography). I also ordered her book to support her research😊
Excellent impression! I always love your videos.
What brand of foil do you use?
@@randallmaves8789 Nature’s Promise (US) or the kitchen foil from Poundland (UK)

@@vincentbasquiat2501 Happy weekend! I am trying to figure out what to do next on this one. One more layer in the sky might do the trick!
How do you make the drawing on the foil? Do I have to treat the foil with a chemical so the lines are etched in?
@@susankramer1621 It’s all done on the surface, using grease based materials to draw and cola or gum arabic to etch.
what paint do you use for printing?
@BaltazárPiros-o1n lithography ink. Sometimes relief ink.

Fantastic! Can multiple prints be made from one inking, or is re-inking required for each? And yes - explanations are always helpful, either spoken or sub titled.

Wow,another masterpiece, Merry Christmas!
@@vincentbasquiat2501 Thanks! All the best for 2025🎉
Studied this in US college (WIU) in the '70's and I was amazed at the process. But the process is what limits how many can actually utilize it.
@@MrPhotodoc That’s exactly why a lot of my videos are about adapting litho techniques to a home studio with no press and no solvents. This is one of the rare cases where I printed at an actual print studio.

Amazing engraving and litho toghether
@@marciacamposdossantos9 It makes such a nice effect! I hope I can find the time to explore it more.
Huh, I guess being able to use relief ink makes sense; it’s the oiliness that makes lithography work
@@maxtravers1314 interestingly enough, I have bought “litho transparent base” in the past that was not compatible with litho😅. Lawrence relief ink works really well, but it’s a bit on the loose side, hence adding the mag carb base.
