Good video i hope to do long haul. The idea of flying to a destination, spend some nights there at a hotel and fly back sound awesome.
"Et savoir que l'univers va s'occuper de vous un jour ou l'autre parce que vous avez tout fait". Merci pour cette citation véridique !
tres interesting but for the cadet you have scheduled a financing plan I have my baccalaureate but the financing is expensive and my parents do not have the least
Calvin Shields, legend.
I just got rejected today at the group exercise. It's just ridiculous. I applied for the cadet program, passed the initial exam, then passed the second exam which contains a psychometric test as well, then went to Budapest just for them to tell me I didn't pass. The group exercise is 8 minutes and they think they can asses you in these 8 minutes. That's insulting to my intelligence to say the least.
Omg!!!! Sorry to hear that, i have a question if you don't mind, how about physics and math is there a test?
You have a physics and maths section in the first online exam- the pilot aptitude test. You have about 40-50 minutes for each section and they both contain about 10 questions each if I remember correctly. The difficulty is neither too high or too low. You don't need an engineering level of knowledge to do it right, however some exercises can be really tricky to solve. Most of the things are subjects studied towards the end of high school.
bro do u got insta or something where i can contact you? i would like to ask you a couple of questions if its not a problem for you
Its all rigged. All of it. You know who they're going to hire and who they're not. Standards mean nothing. Standards only apply if they don't want your kind.
i think that no matter how much we advance as a society we still live in jungle of hunt or get hungry mostly a gamble. saying this as someone who couldn't afford to finish flight school
Isn't there a world wide pilot shortage ? I say keep working at it you'll get in somewhere one day. Might have to give up some things though. Like your spare time and seeing family.
There’s been a pilot shortage ever since I became a pilot and yet there have been pilots struggling to find a job all the same. Pilots unduly failing selections is a main contributor in pilot shortage.
‘Pay for your type rating’ Erm no thanks. It’s the people who forked out 30k euro for a TR that ruined the industry in Europe for the rest of the NTR candidates
how does your ntr candidate start a career when the airlines that don't charge TR don't call them or have 200 type rated guys in front of them applying at the same time?
"You're not motivated" is probably the most disgraceful reason for refusal an airline can give to a pilot candidate. It would be better to not provide any reason at all or at least tell the truth
In fairness they’d say it in a slightly different way like “we didn’t perceive your motivation in a convincing enough way”
I’m at 5 mins and wow… this hits hard. Do I still really want to do it?… yes I do
Can we apply as a beginner pleaseeeeeee answerrr, thnku
What is the requirement to become a pilot basic requirement
Wow, thank you from the bottom of my heart :) I like those techniques. I just have one question, you have mentioned the way we should learn how to adjust our pitch in order to make a clim at particular v/s. But what about N1 adjustments during those manouvers? Best regards!
+@mateuszmista738 yes of course you need to keep N1 in your scan. For access to our full content on sim preparation, pls visit online.airlineselectionprogramme.com/course/sim-preparation-course
Ridiculous assessment. Too tough to fly low cost airline
thank you for explaining the major middle east airlines in such detail, but I have on question in particular and that is how can a Go Around go so wrong that the Pilot decides to leave the Airline. I was under the impression that there is a now Blame Culture when it comes to Go Arounds.
Still in his case management actually offered either a return to the RHS or a mutually agreed exit. The reality is that he had an average sim a few months prior which can happen to anyone. And there they put the pressure on him, probably in an excessive way, such that he felt his job was on the line every time he went to work. That’s not ok. This sort of pressure can have the effect of a loss of confidence and sadly that’s what I think happened. Nothing is worse for a pilot than to lose your confidence. BA would have retrained this person with the goal of rebuilding his confidence. I’m sure AF would have too. After that indeed and sadly the Go Around was really not well flown.
What a fantastic video Guillaume! Your invaluable insights of the whole interview process has taught me so much! I really liked the amount of information you made freely available on your website and RUclips. I was highly impressed and look forward to completing the Advanced Interview Course in a few weeks time. Thank you for sharing this with us, it is greatly appreciated. I plan on preparing as much as I can to be successful and earn a cadetship in Ireland 🇮🇪
Thank you much appreciated! 😍
I dont think Ryanair and Wizzair will consider a candidate to be hired again if he quit himself. At least thats what Ive heard.
Actually they do. If you gave them 8 years of service and come back after 3 because you wanted to see long haul… you gave them a lot and were a good employee, and just want to come back… I’ve heard of very many being rehired.
wonderful video, thank you very much!
What do you think about the majority of European airlines that obligate the pilot to pay for his own type rating compared to the rest of the world?
+@LACSACR it’s been like this for a while now. Best accept it, get a type rating and start earning a wage. Pilots pay a lot for their education. But if you put it in perspective it lasts only for 3 years. Compare that to being wage less for 8 years as a student doctor. Or paying yourself through college in the US. Do I agree with it, no. But in my case if I hadn’t done it I’d not have hard the career I had. Also some low cost airlines invest back in you and give you exceptional training. Seen this way and considering you can be a captain at 25… and that your salary will only go up from there, the deal is not bad actually.
@@airlineselectionprogramme3156 first of all thank you for the video! Mostly I agree with you in the perspective comparing to the doctors education. However airlines may suggest investments in your Type Rating and having contract for 5 years in return only if you are EU citizen. What about immigrants who have EASA license and nearly 0 opportunities to get hired by airlines?
@LACSACR The practice may seem disgusting at first sight, but it does make financial sense for the airline. Just imagine if Ryanair financed the TR for all the new pilots hired by the airline, what do you think would happen ? All pilots would receive TR + excellent training but would most probably leave the company as soon as they can for a better paying airline and that's precisely what the company does not want, to invest in people that will leave at the first opportunity. That's why the airline require 30,000€ to be paid upfront for the TR. They want the candidates to see their entry at the airline as a long term investment. Major airlines still finance TR with bond because they know pilots will most certainly stay on the long term, so financing it for the candidate makes sense
@@petersjeanpaul9071 Ryanair could demand a bonding time and retain the human talent. Like the rest of the World 🤷🏼♂️
@@LACSACRbut how do you retain talent ? Higher salary is the main lever for it, but that's the point of a low cost airline, to save on salaries too...
54:10 Hello. Do you think it makes sence to fly to the station (from wherever you are) and then fly radial 130 outbound for 15nm, then a procedure turn to intercept radial 310 or the ILS?
+@LACSACR yes. Just a lot more complicated. And therefore a lot more stress and opportunity to destabilise your flying.
Dear my Capt. Salutes from Istanbul and Hungary skies. Through end of video I learnt and got notes a lot that cant found. As a type rated I learnt also that during Sim before Vr occurring the engine failure. Be careful to Airbus Philology, Eicas pages reading, check items, failure type as fire or damaged. Also secondary failure from Eicas pages clearing due to failure engine. Same again climb or descent via given rate, directing to point mostly to aid for interception, right left turns. After Ils approach vectored by Atc in dark and reduced visibility condition. The last surprise is evacuation on the runway...
Nice
well done.
Any tips how to pass their caddet academy assement for people with 0 experience in flying?
Yes we just had a student of ours pass. He got our courses, worked them hard for months and will start the Wizzair Pilot Academy very soon now.
can i run away with my america ATP and not pay my flight school loans back in america lol ?
Merci
Nice video and interesting subject ! Isn’t waiting for the upgrade in a low cost airline in Europe, then 3-4 years as captain to get some PIC hours then going to the middle east more challenging/harder? Because assessment is more demanding towards DEC and not always open towards narrow body captains OR because lets say you accept to apply for FO position; you will have to accept the downgrade (CPT back to FO) and accept a decrease in salary compared to previous position as cpt and be at the bottom of the seniority list. And also because while you may not have a big family when starting your carrier, as time goes by you start to build up a family which makes it even harder to move to ME.. In my opinion in terms of carrier progression and financial management it is wiser and easier to move there early than to wait until the family gets bigger or more difficult to move because you are well established into your home country. In terms of risk management, specially when already having a family or well established into a country it is probably better to secure a Captain position and experience in Europe for 3-4yr then « try » as FO for 2-3 years the middle east as you mentioned. But going FO and waiting until the upgrade in ME again will make you loose those 3-4 years spent as cpt in a lowcost that you could have spent in long haul.. but these years they could also save you if you want to come back to Europe as cpt.. again back to risk management but it depends with which mindset you go with. On top of what you mentioned, going to the ME seems to depend a lot on the individual profile and mindset (single? girlfriend? engaged? married? how many kids? how old? Just wanna try the long haul xp or want to build a long term carrier?) if the person commutes or not ( commuting imo is not ideal for many reasons..) Is the wife/husband willing to work in ME or not, and the personality because some personalities don’t match with the local arab-islamic culture. And the climate is not for everyone too (hot and humid, dusty sometimes) Going there should be a commitment from both in the couple otherwise it is hard to spend more than couple of years with out damaging our personal life and finance. In all cases, someone willing to go to ME should ask him/her self: What to do if I don’t like it as soon as I arrive? In 1 year? In 3 years? (Plan B) What to do after 10 years? 20 years? 30 years? (Retirement plan, side hustle, where to live..)
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hi thanks for this video because i am worried about an interview question did i ever have accident or incident, and the fact is i did have forced landing incident and it was pure mechanical issue and literally saved the plane and my passanger. Im just confused how i should answer about this question in the interview
That’s not a problem in my view. Come and talk about it on discord discord.gg/KrCCUFThq5
@@airlineselectionprogramme3156 awesome I will do that
Never been appreciated for being honest ! 🤐
Thank you very much Captain for this wonderful video. I’m an ex-QR pilot, everything you mentioned is on point. Just to get your opinion, I was let go at 1000 hours. Will it be okay to join Emirates at 2000 hours as FO, single, with lots of flying school training debts to pay, and I have a plan B which is to return to my home country (in case things don’t go as planned). I will prepare the license of my country in case I need to return n I’m willing to return as a FO (worst case scenario). At 2000 hours, I will anyway have to wait 3-4 years for upgrade. Maybe if join Emirates at low hours, I could anticipate an upgrade in 6 years, an extra of 2 years. If everything goes well, in that 6 years I would have saved enough money n be marketable due to my experience. It a gamble n if I don’t make it to 6 years, I’m willing to return home on the right seat. What is your opinion on this plan?
Hi there. That’s a long question and I’m missing a key point. What license and passport do you hold ? Come and talk about it on Discord discord.gg/KrCCUFThq5
Very nice video! Which countries in Europe and Asia would you recommend going to if you don’t want to be scared of losing your job because of a small mistake you made on your flight?
Any coutries where unions exist and labor laws are consistent
In Asia, in general, things are far worse for expats, particularly in China where some airlines have very high packages. Then... if you do a hard landing you'll be banned from flying for xxx weeks. Without pay. Things like that. There are many more issues in these countries and I would not recommend going there as a copilot ever. Of course, each case needs to be examined on its own merits and every country is different. Korea and Japan, when taking in expats, treat them well and fairly. There are pilot unions in these countries. In Singapore, expats report good conditions, but living expenses being astronomical plus local preference means a full career isn't possible there. In Indonesia things get worse. You'll never upgrade as an expat and will be left with the captain speaking the local language with the engineer and crew, and you having no idea of what's going on. Not a way to start your career. Going to Asia would be fine I'd say, as a longhaul TRE because then, they need you so desperately that the scales are reversed and in any case, as a TRE, you can very easily switch to another airline. Again, protect your career from the beginning and really, if you've got an EASA licence, try and get that first job in Europe. The no1 thing that matters for that first job is the quality of the training you'll receive, and which will shape you as a pilot.
thank you for putting so much detail and honesty in your video ! I was seeing the middle east as a kind of "cheat code" place with no taxes and quick upgrades but this puts a lot of light on the risk and that it"s not all great. Thanks !
I'm glad this helps. Wished I'd seen my own video 10 years ago haha. I think if you go there for 3 years at some point, when your career is not fragile (you're fragile when you need to upgrade) and stay there 3 years, you'll probably get a lot out of it. The ideal path in my mind (Apart from entering a legacy carrier right away) : Low Cost in Europe 4y copilot 4y captain, then... 3 y middle east to have a look and do longhaul. Then decide: do I prefer to be a shorthaul captain back home or do my LH upgrade. Many will go back home, become TRIs TREs, and have a really good time coming back with all they learned in the middle east.
Thank you for your honest feedback

Finally a clear instructive webinar that puts things into an organized shape instead of relying on "rumors and theories" Well said and done 👏🏼
Thank you 🙏🏻
You often mention AF as an example but I think it must be remembered that joining AF is almost a miracle and a pinch of chance is necessary too... their waiting list amounts to roughly 2,000 fully qualified pilots and demand from pilots to join the airline is simply staggering... of course AF recruitment can afford itself to be picky and discard candidates on such a dumb basis... I truly believe not all airlines are as picky as AF
Hi Jean Paul, nice to see you again. Actually they're not that demanding. The interview is in one language, of which everyone is a native. No sim check except in some cases. The selection is very well known, stable and easy to anticipate. Success rates at AF are similar to that of other major airlines and the waiting list you mention doesn't seem that high to me, but we'd need to confirm this figure. So I don't think AF are that picky. They are looking for the same sound behaviours in a pilot as other airlines with a few specificities as you'd expect. Yes major airlines can afford to be picky as you'd expect, but only to a point if they want to staff their airplanes fast enough. People with a type rating are being invited within 3 to 6 months at the moment which is remarkably fast. It was 3 years in my days... the important thing is to prepare the best you can, as that's the only thing you can really control.
@@airlineselectionprogramme3156 Yep when you applied it must have been different. Thanks for the info! 👍
I made a mistake then. A mistake that could cost anyone their selection today. And it was a month when almost no one got hired which didn’t help.
