I guess it depends on the therapist and their discretion? I know one therapist I worked with, when I moved to a different province, I already had about 3 years of experience doing EMDR with my initial therapist. She had no background knowledge of my EMDR experience, and so the 1st session was getting to know each other, 2nd session was on developing "ideal parental figures" as resources, and we would do some talk therapy around the challenges I'd been dealing with; then the 3rd session was drawing on friends, objects and other figures for resourcing. After that, we were able to do the phases 1-8 quite easily and efficiently in the following sessions! Most of my sessions were EMDR, and then talk therapy. When I moved out, I worked with a new therapist who believed in targeting the traumas with a multitude/eclectic mix of talk therapies, and only using EMDR as the "final punch" to desensitize the traumatic memory. Not sure if you also do that too with clients? My therapist ended up doing Cognitive Processing Therapy with me after because EMDR was taking a toll on me, so we draw on it from time to time, but mainly focus on different types of talk therapy to target the distressing/traumatic memories. EMDR is AMAZING imo, and I think there's a time and place for it. I feel like talk therapies can go well with EMDR too. Just my own experience though, I'd imagine it varies from person to person.

Appreciated: Sociodrama role training examples for collective issues and psychodrama for individual wounding as a TI clinical map! Also, Leticia’s work on using Hays’ ADRESING model has been extremely helpful for me in my own work in terms of having transparency around our own social roles of privilege and marginalization and the real implications of these constructs in groups. 👍🏽

I have been dealing with CPTSD issues since 2011. Lots of different therapists over the years. I am starting EMDR with my current therapist. We have done some small starter sessions, I am excited to hopefully get some relief and release these trapped emotions.

What about a psychiatric service animal? For example, a person who gets panic attacks when out in public and has a physiological response to the anxiety.
