I'm playing some of these "Kinderszenen"-pieces at the moment and I've never realized the bass line/left hand in the second part in this dominant way before. Once again, I have to say that can't agree more that the way bells you play are very clear and distinctive. I played this piece about 30 years ago for my piano competition. I got 2nd placee without any 1st winner. 😄😄. Btw I choose to play this piece a little bit slower. But the way you play are great to hear. Yes, speed are not a must but to be felt from our soul. very good interpretation and analysis of the piece. I am studying it and what is most difficult for me is the trill alternating hands in measure 20 and the scale at the end before the coda. Do you have any technical advice for those two parts? On the other hand, what is your criterion for using the pedal so that the repetition of chords sounds very clear. Thanks, I subscribe!
Thank you very much for your comments Matias and glad you subscribed to my channel. For the scale at the end, you need to have "reference points" of where your hands are falling together, start by putting accents where they do fall together (to make sure they are REALLY together) than, of course, take the accents off. About the trill alternated hands, this is actually really not piano playing but rather percussion playing, so you can train on a table, a chair, your lap and listen that your hands are doing the job correctly. It will help you to not tire your ears with dissonances and keep it fresh for when you'll play them on the piano. I usually don't teach like that as often the problem can be somewhere else (although the student might identify it as being this or that). I hope my suggestions will help, and if it doesn't please do not hesitate to contact me again. Maybe I can suggest you become a "Member" and I'll give you a masterclass once/month too ? There is a very small fee for this, but it can make you gain an enormous amount of time and frustration. C'est tout à fait cela. Il se dirige lentement (mai surement) vers un autre language harmonique que celui qu'utilise les Romatiques, et comme tout changements, ils se font doucement.

Je découvre ces préludes simultanément sous tes doigts et sous la plume de Marguerite Long, ça fait une jolie entrée dans ce monde Debussyen un peu magique mais pas facile d’accès. Elle écrit sur ce deuxième prélude « Voiles est une image mmatérielle des barques sur la mer, - la mer « ce toit tranquille où marchent les colombes » écrira Paul Valéry. Il faut y penser, car Debussy critiquait certaines interprétations « colorées »ou plutôt « colonisées » : - ce n’est pas une photo de plage ! Une carte postale pour le 15 août ! » Puisque ton interprétation ne sent pas l’huile de monoi, mais plutôt la brume de mer et les voiliers au mouillage, j’imagine que CB serait content. Et si en plus ça permet de faire de la théorie, alors là je suis encore plus ravie. Après la gamme pentatonique et la gamme par ton, que nous réserve le 3ème prelude ?

If I may, I look at first chord in Prokofiev (ruclips.net/video/Q55uUl0fTcg/видео.html) not as a bitonal but a "simple" dominant Bb7/9 with the 9th on top and the 5b in the bass. Just "opened up" and voiced with the 5b in bass, the Bb is also repeated. While the Stravinsky's chord, in the Rite of Spring, is a real bi-tonal chord that is a superimposed Eb7 over a E7 as you point out. Cheers.

Je suis ravie d’apprendre cette série sur le préludes de Debussy. Je connais mal le compositeur et son œuvre mais plus le temps passe, plus je me sens des affinités avec lui. Jamais à la première écoute, comme s’il fallait le mériter pour entrer dans l’univers, et puis plus on écoute plus la magie opère. Et on finit par penser : mais que c’est beau une gamme chromatique ! Merci pour cette initiative, je vais attendre (im)patiemment les prochains enregistrements !

Trèves de plaisanterie, c'est vrai qu'il a l'art de rendre une gamme chromatique ou autres phénomènes assez classique de la musique beau et profond alors qu'on pensait avoir tout entendu... du pur genie en somme.

A propos des préludes : « ces merveilles légères ou grandioses, tendres, profondes et mélancoliques, sont une évocation de sensations indéfinissables pour lesquelles notre langue n’a pas de nom…. ».
