The Lapstone Story
Lapstone is a village on the eastern escarpment of the Blue Mountains. This is the story of how Arthur J Hand purchased 116 acres of undeveloped land and designed and built a unique subdivision which was later called Lapstone.

Lapstone Hill 1926 Road Deviation
Просмотров 12114 дней назад
The climb up Lapstone Hill was always difficult. The original 1814 Coxs Road was replaced by the Zig Zag Road in 1826 which was also difficult due to its tight curves. The 1833 convict built Michells Pass was next and this remained the main road until it was decided to build a new road in 1926. This road was built on the abandoned 1867 Zig Zag rail alignment.

Glenbrook Second Rail Deviation 1913
Просмотров 54921 день назад
The task of trains climbing Lapstone Hill was solved in 1867 with the Lapstone Zig Zag. Over time this was a problem due to increased traffic and longer trains. The first deviation was built in 1892 with the single track Lapstone Tunnel , however, this had major problems with slippage and ventilation. The need for a dual track line was resolved with the 1913 second deviation through Glenbrook G...

Lapstone Tunnel Storm Damage
Просмотров 4185 месяцев назад
In April 2024 very heavy rain caused severe damage to the Tunnel Gully. A blockage in Knapsack Creek near the west portal of the Lapstone Tunnel resulted in a large amount of water flowing down the tunnel which eroded the Tunnel Gully area at the Eastern portal. Additional water flow from Tunnel Gully Creek added to the problem with Sydney Water sewer lines.

One of my must see sites in America. Williamsburg was the second capitol of Virginia. It has a great collection of colonial buildings that were involved in the early history of America.

'Mr Umm-umm' should listen to himself...I couldn't watch it all - the 'umm...umm...umm' was too annoying.
I have lived in lithgow near my whole life and have never seen no.3 shaft head? How do I get to it thanks

A lady i know said her aunty used to live at Wellington And she had to sleep with axe under her bed because of the crime issue
I drove over this today and pondered it's history :) thanks for a great video mate
I don’t know how this video ended up on my recommended list, but I’m happy it did. Thank you for the history lesson, true Americana history.
Gosh, that writing goes so fast… can’t even finish reading… who’s thought was it!!!
I live up around the corner from here. I've been walking this track for decades. It has always flooded. When they said they were going to do it all up I laughed. This will continue to happen. I sincerely wish they had left it all as it was and didn't try making it another bloody tourist walk. Is nothing sacred anymore? Everything has to be 'developed'.
@Bronnyley I also agree with you, because I was also thinking the I could take the Adventure through the Valley In 2023, When I was a bit older, but we decided to take a walk just to the Entrance In 2022 and half of the Damn trees we’re chopped down and we we’re not very excited Since we planned it and made it to be our biggest adventure in life, Because we first went down to the valley and ontop of the tunnel back in 2018 Which was 6 Years ago this year. Guess what… In 2023 They destroy all of it and You can already tell, because like you know I think that those floods would have washed away the “Opening” side
Hi, good video. I was doing research on Butler for an upcoming video and came across yours. How good is it that you can still visit the site of murder. Well it’s not good. I am going to try and find it. Cheers.

Thanks for posting this. I found it very helpful as I am going to Villers - Bretonneux later this year. Looking at staying in Amiens and hiring a car, do you think 2 days is enough to see most of the Australian and NZ places of interest?
There are plans by Council to open the tunnel as part of a shared cycling-walkway but much work will be needed.
😢 "promo sm"
Great video!👍 Tell me, Did you see any naked men running around up there?
Nice video :) !!!
Out at OkeyPark was the Lithgow springs water, and a Brewery out there as well, as the mine
Wow, that is very impressive. I have watched various videos by people taken over the past few years where they have entered the tunnel with cameras. The place was an absolute mess with all the left overs from the mushroom farming. On my fairly frequent visits from the west coast (I am an ex Springwood resident) I usually bring my mountain bike and love to cycle up to the eastern portal and then around to the west, and I have hoped that one day this tunnel, as historically significant as it is, could be refurbished and opened, hopefully for walkers, integrated into a mountain bike trail, and also opened for specific interest groups. The work that has been carried out is absolutely brilliant, so well done to those responsible. I will again bring my bike on my next visit in the hope it is open for access.
Gorgeous.
Brought my first house in Portand behind the works at 1a Forest St in the 1980"s, every roof in Portand was a cement grey colour
Be great if it become a tourist attraction after all the good work
Under the Blue Mountains Council, any hope of it becoming a Tourist attraction is Zilch It is a woke-broke Labor Party-controlled council that never does anything unless it gets a financial grant from either the State or Federal Governments
i used to live in Wellington--you showed a picture of my old house--brings back lots of memories
Was this a special Last Post Ceremony that day? Very moving.
Think my 10 year old Grandson could have filmed and narrated better than this...
What an inappropriate comment...you clearly haven't got an ounce of decency in you.
What a load of absolute garbage you have presented here. 1. Ned Kelly NEVER mentioned a republic. That fiction was made up by Ian Jones, who wrote the book, Ned Kelly A Short Life. Jones made up that nonsense. There is no evidence anywhere that Kelly intended to proclaim a republic. 2. Being Irish had nothing to do with the attention the Kelly's drew to themselves by the police. 82% of the police in Victoria at that time were IRISH. It was their criminal activity that drew police attention. 3. Kelly could not have escaped. He could not mount a horse in the armour, as it needed another person to help remove it. 4. After Ned Kelly opened fire on the police at 3.15am, and police returned fire, he was wounded twice in the left arm and right foot. He walked back into the hotel and straight out the back door, walked for about 150 metres and lay down behind a large fallen log. He remained there until 7am, when he rose and attacked the police from behind. 5. Joe Byrne was hit by a police bullet inside the hotel at 5am, 2 hours before Ned Kelly was captured. 6. There are a number of spelling errors in the presentation. Your understanding of the Kelly siege is all over the place and what you have presented follows myths and fiction.
I don't think that submarine is going anywhere soon.
Thanks Denis.
Great shots, thanks Denis.
