Iconic Red Wines of Spain | Priorat
PRIORAT is extreme. With an intense Mediterranean sun, steep roman-cut terraces and unforgiving dark slate soils known as llicorella, everything about this region is challenging. The primary varietals are the indigenous Garnacha and Cariñena. These wines are practically heroic: intensely proud and concentrated in every way with stewed inky fruit and ripping tannins.

Iconic Red Wines of Spain | Bierzo
Просмотров 3,4 тыс.4 года назад
BIERZO The gateway to green-Spain, Bierzo is the part of the country that’s lush with verdant rolling hills with a cooler wetter climate. But what Bierzo is really all about is it’s grape: Mencia, from which it makes wildly complex light red wines. This relatively unknown region is producing some of the most inspiring wines in all of Spain. Have you ever wanted to understand wine like a sommeli...
Iconic Red Wines of Spain | Ribera del Duero

RIBERA DEL DUERO In the heart of Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero sits atop the elevated plateau of northern Spain. Stepping back in time, this area of the country is speckled with castles and Roman aqueducts. It has a desert-like continental climate, experiencing massive swings between temperatures both daily and seasonally. Part of the Tempranillo-belt, these wines are bold and muscular, wit...
Iconic Red Wines of Spain | Rioja

RIOJA On two levels, this region is about age. It’s an incredibly old and historic D.O. with a beautiful tendency to extensively oak age its wines. Red and white alike, these bottles celebrate the tertiary possibilities of wine. Set in an amphitheater terrain, protected by mountains, Tempranillo is king, and is flanked by Mazuelo, Ganacha, and Graciano. Have you ever wanted to understand wine l...

Just a detail: in the same manner that Celtic influence was premanent in Green Spain, Arab influence in the Iberian Peninsula was nowhere near as influential and marking as Roman, Celt-Iberian and Visigothic Spain were to the population and terriotory. 👍

Love all the information, and thank you for keeping each segment concise. I'm in the industry and am trying to get serious about wine so the straight shooting is much appreciated👍. Also, just a note, I've worn glasses since I was 3, you need them tightened so they're not falling down all the time. Just a tip, keep doing what you're doing🙏

Really enjoying this content! I'm a certified Somm and former wine buyer/director for a WS Grand Award Winning Restaurant years ago... After a long Covid layoff I just started serving at a new Spanish/Mediterranean Restaurant in Beverly Hills. I've been diving hard back into Spain and appreciating the simple and straight forward classroom style delivery of your videos. Nice job 👍🏻

I would have drunk the wine instead of spitting and then described the sensation of absorbtion into my body but I suppose there's a reason why she's a spitter.
