Mississippi's Innovating Kayaker

I'm on a quest to kayak the Mississippi - from the Headwaters at Itasca State Park to the Gulf of Mexico. I love kayaking lakes and have paddled ~50 lakes and taken over 100 trips over the past 3 years. I have never been a person who camps and was not a fan of river kayaking because you have to rely on others for transport.
This quest started as a question from a friend: "Do you want to kayak the entire Mississippi?" I off-handedly said, "Sure." After one year of planning, purchasing gear, calling the EPA (I wondered if you could treat the Mississippi water to make it drinkable), and DNR (is it safe during the Spring melt?), the trip kicked off on May 22, 2023.

This video includes Red Wing to Lake City. This trip includes Lake Pepin. A flock of birds in the water didn't scatter when I approached. It was a beautiful 64 degrees F, and many, many, many fishermen were on the water. Walleye are prominent in this area. I left my GoPro in the car.

This is probably the last kayak of the 2023 season. I've paddled ~545 miles from Lake Itasca to Lock #3 right before Red Wing, MN. I have approximately 124 miles left to finish the Minnesota/Wisconsin part of the Mississippi.
