Every Wednesday, right after school, we gather to eat a meal and do homework with students of color at Washburn High School. The more we follow the lead of students, the more students flock to the space. We are so proud of the work and the students! We are also grateful to The Graves Foundation for allowing us the opportunity to make a short film about this work.

OMG Heather!!! Yes you are an angel. AND this young woman, Halimah, with an old, wise, courageous soul is amazing!! May she find her way into powerful leadership positions which allow her presence to have the impact she is so very capable of. And, if Halimah is instead meant to be her strength as a small seed, then that seed will certainly come to fruition in the greater community which surrounds her.
Promo sm ✋

Geez get a clue as to what year it is you racist people
Excellent discussion. What strikes me as an MSP K-12 grad from back in the dark ages, and a 15 year school board member in St. Cloud is the extent to which venting for consequential decisions that have already been made occurs at school board. Yes, the strike created pressure on everyone, but it is the job of the school administrative leadership to collect and consider parental and student input, and community input before a decision is presented to the school board. Surely, everyone knew as the strike continued, that makeup days and makeup hours was going to have to be considered. It was an administrative responsibility, on the Superintendent and his leadership team to take input; to discuss the ramifications with families across the board and to bring that information to the board before asking the board to approve it. When the first time a major decision like this is being publicly discussed is at the board meeting, there is a giant failure of public relations and community relations. The purpose of the board hearing, if there is one, should be for the board to receive a report from the administration that explains the consequences and reports to the board whether there are consequences and concerns that need to be addressed. The board hearing is a safety valve, to double check the accuracy of the administrative teams description of public input, not to be a punching bag for a decision already made which was never vetted.
I believe it was 5 - 2 - 1. There was one abstention. One board member would not vote without Sup present - which is another issue.
Just an FYI Roosevelt and I believe Edison also have longer days as well. Also union members only voted once for both the contract and the return to work. So there are mixed feelings about that.
For how long are we going to keep saying that at the end of kindergarten the kids are unable to say letter names and sounds? This is the basic problem with about 20% of kids being unable to read. I have explained all these in my RUclips channel found at ruclips.net/channel/UCS4SwCk6j0PkVAVHmKhk8qA Listen to the videos nos 6 to 9 captioned Shut Down Kids.
Thank you! I will miss all of you.
Great discussion, Heather, Kenneth and Khulia. White supremacy doesn't just wear camo and storm the Capitol.....it shows up and storms Zoom calls and chats for BIPOC families.
