My wife wanted me to sing Amazing Grace at her graveside service this Wednesday afternoon. I've been practicing on the Dailey and Vincent version all week. I hope I do my wife proud. I don't normally sing for anyone but myself, and I'm terrified on public speaking.

This version is very similar to the one in Janet Davis' Back-up banjo Method (Mel Bay) book. The one time through on part A I played it at half speed just ad-libbing, and used a simple 43143143 forward roll while doing a digression on the 5th string from 5th fret, 4th fret, 2nd fret, open to kick it off.

I just have to note that pputnam100 was complaining in another post on another song about the bass being "way off" and all over the place, (Christian Davis). I think Putnam has a problem with his/her ears, maybe need to go to the vet and get them flushed out? Just saying...there's nothing to complain about here, these guys are award winning, some 20 awards by now, and they can't be that bad. It may be that some of the recordings are not great, as they are not all professionally done. Luv 'em

Nah, it's parker, and a little bit Joe Dean, just a few notes. Anyway, the studio version is perfect, where they could have a "redo" unlike this in house video. Not a good thing to make judgements here.

I think its just the acoustics and the recording and i personaly love parker and i have met him in person he is a really good singer i am a lead singer my self and i play piano and violin so i do know about music i have seen this group play in person you have know right to judge them just bye a recording

That Jaime, who I only discovered in the last year, just kills me with that effortless high tessatura he pulls off (though in truth, I prefer Russel Moore in the Doyle recordings, more meat, more substance to his tone in my opinion. Yeah, it doesn't get much better than these kinds of groups.

Oh of course, I too adore this group, more than I can express here, I work as a jazz drummer and folk guitarist who's first love is bluegrass, AND I'm a singer who like most of us has occasional pitch problems, especially if the club is loud and there's no monitor. It's just that two of these guys, Darrin and Jaime are as good as it gets in terms of harmony singers.

If I'd seen this performance live I would have been flat out swooning, but I didn't fail to notice that one guy's pitch, that bass singer also can be pretty off sometimes in other recordings, I wish he'd "relax" his tone sometimes and not try to sound so basso profundo,

That would be Parker. He is a very good bluegrass musician singing way up in his range and standing a little close to the mic. Many bluegrass groups sometimes have this "strained harmony". I think it is a side-effect of generations of bluegrass singers getting way up in their range. I am a quartet singer myself so I understand and don't disagree that his pitch wasn't dead on; but I am also a banjo player and a big bluegrass fan. Those two things combine to make me a huge fan of this group.
